Subject: Papa-Nid's: Hive-Fleet: ΔΣ0113/Ω84. The great International Painting marathon!!! (Pg44+)
and lysenis... that is looking already damn neat... your glowy bitz look very cool too... how did you do them? same as jackal said here or somewhat different?
and i would really like to know the secret of painting so acurate on such a tiny mini... basically my minis are getting a slap of paint on them and then i endlessly start to touch up the work i did earlier...
It is a Green GW Glaze over white. I am working on a way to do OSL with these glazes. I do the same thing but I HATE the touchup phase so I tend to Drybrush a ton OR I ignore the rule to use a bigger brush then needed and I use a small one.

I allways use a size 00 brush Granted it takes longer, but it means i dont have any clean up to do afterwards lol.
Im just about to finish 1 flamer, after 6 hours on it -_-
With highlights, make sure the brush is nearly flat against the model when you do them.
Gives alot more control.
Once you have done that you can go back with the previous colour and clean up the highlights if needed.

Yeah yeah I know, but I'm learning, I've never highlighted before
WHat I like to do with highlights when I am not drybrushing them on is that I paint them on thick first THEN I do the color that they are highlighting. So for example if I was highlighting your models I would put the grey highlight first THEN I would paint the darker grey over it so that I can control how thick/think I want the highlights.

That is a good Idea, I'll try that when I get back from vacation and will post pictures in my blog. But Until then, Bye bye!

If you can lay your hands on it, "Simple Green" for stripping paint. You'd have to order it from their website, since you're in the UK.
For immediate needs:
From metal/plastic/resin: Dettol, or, if you can find it, Castrol Super Clean.
From JUST metal: Brake Fluid.
Brake Fluid, Castrol Super Clean from car parts stores. Dettol from god only knows where.
Only Super Green should be used sans protective gloves.

I just use White Spirits for stipping metals. Only stripped 1 metal model and no plastic so don't know how it would fare. The stuff stings but isn't harmful

It is what I used before Simple Green came along. Works great on metal minis, just need gloves, an old toothbrush, and a water container to rinse the minis in. Never burned myself once in over a decade of use.

Well currently visa vie the paint stripping debate, I'm using nail polish removed... which is an acetone based one. I did a test earlier and it came up fine. but due to nerves and never having done it before, I'm only stripping a batch of 5 currently.
plus, brake fluids and all the other suggestions would cost money I don't currently have. So I went with the cheap option... pilfer some Acetone... which I think my ex left when she moved out ahhhhh gotta love it when an ex actually has a use

I only have one tip for highlighting. When painting, keep your brush tip to a point. So when you highlight you drag (lightly) the the tip and only the tip across the edge. from there with practice you should improve greatly. It's hard to teach or impart this kinda stuff through the interwebs... I may try a video some time and upload it... but thats a long way off lols.

Mate, if i have to buy you one of these brushes to convince you they are amazing then i will
Just finished a flamer and had to paint 8 eyes and 52 individual teeth on it.
Didnt have a single issue Its now finished though minus the base, but my devlin mud is downstairs and i cant be fethed to get it, so ill do that tomorrow.
So, tomorrows goals: Do the final highlight and teeth/claws/eyes on my unit of bloodletters, then start on the other 5 flamers.
The one today took me 6 hours, but now ive got a scheme and found a quicker way to blend, i should be able to cut it down to 4 hours per flamer.

The acetone I was using is successful but, I've switched to using white spirit as I don't have enough acetone to keep changing the fluid while soaking them. As some of them are especially clogged with paint... which is proving a sod to remove...
stupid nostalgia... see where you get me!!!
