Again, excellent work, Dave.

I love the incorporation of the base into the structure of the tank... you did a great job of supporting the chassis without looking like you're doing so. Subtle. Nice stuff.

And the color choices work out pretty darn well to. Subdued tones, like the rest of your Blood Pact, but with enough accent color to keep the eye moving.

Are you planning to add any more weathering/battle damage to future stalk-tanks? The chipped paint effect you're using is very effective, and the dirt and staining along the legs works to bring the overall tone together, but it might be interesting to see how these beasts take punishment... just a thought...

In any case, keep up the great work on your Blood Pact and congratulations to the new addition to your real world army.

very cool models! what rules are you planning on using for the traitor guard? a poster on the IG thread was commenting that this version of the codex gives him more options when it comes to his latd force. regular guardmen are traitor PDF, conscripts are untrainted cultists, and ogryns are mutants. the new armored sentinel could be used for the stalk tank.

Looks great that could seriously be in white dwarf. But one question what does it count as chimera? Leman Russ? sentinal?

I tried being normal but it's boring so now I'm back to being insane

Hi guys

Thanks for all the positive comments, a lot of hours went into bringing that model to life. And thanks for all the well wishes for my daughter, I'm sure many more hours will be spent joyfully with her.

As for the rules or what it could count as there are really a number of options. As some have suggested it could be an armored/heavy sentinel, but it really is too big for that (in my view). It could also be a Lena Russ exterminator without sponsons, it certainly is that big, but I'm not sure it should have an AV of 14 - it seems too spindly to me. I'd also like it to have some reasonable close combat impact but it doesn't have a battle cannon like the Defiler. At the moment it seems more like an oversized Chaos Dreadnought, but even that doesn't do it justice. I'm thinking of running a competition to create a Datasheet for Apoc and then a second for a group of three (including a psyker upgrade). More news on that as it comes to hand ; )

As for the army, it'll definitely use the new IG codex, but until I get my own copy in my hands I'm reluctant to speculate too much. I do know that even with the huge amounts of additional units (awesome!) there'll be a few things I need to relegate to Apocalypse situations, which is just fine for me.

I'll try to get a group shot of the project thus far sometime over the weekend once we're home and slightly settled. And thanks once again for your well wishes.

Cheers
Dave

It has been a while, but I finally have a bit more progress on the Blood Pact in the form of the first SteG4 armored car.

It certainly is an expensive beast, but I'll make sure that all the other bitz from the Chimera and Leman Russ will be used when building the other vehicles (AT-70 or AT-83 and Usurper) yet to come. I think I'll be using these as Centaurs. Wheels and paint to come soon. There's another pic angle on my blog too (as well as an Ork Nob I'm working on). Link in my sig!

Looks great so far! Very convincing. Funny, how putting rearranging the elements of various kits creates a look that's so distinct.

That said, I don't think I've ever seen a side hatch/wheel arrangement like that IRL (in my admittedly limited experience). Are there any reasons this design would be impractical? Not sure. Just wondering.

Hey Ghost, looks just like it! I bet the original builder "took inspiration" just like I did, from Owen Rees' build.

Do you use that one as a Salamander?

Actually I just use it as a Chimera, since I don"t have the Salamander Rules.

Hi guys

First off, let me apologize for "being away" for the last month. Truth is I've been lurking and posting the odd comment here and there but didn't have too much new finished for the Blood Pact. Anyway, here are the latest addition to the army:

A squad of Infardi (from Honour Guard) ready to beat the snot out of any Imperials they can get their hands on. These guys will be fielded as Penal Legion troopers. Below are my three favorite troopers:

On my blog I also have a poll to let you, faithful reader, decide on my next project for the Blood Pact (selecting from a short-list of tutorial requests). So head on over and have fun voting! Blog link can be found in my sig.

Very nice, the Infardi are looking good. It's great that what looks like some simple conversion work and a nice clean paint job does wonders for the unit. It's reminding me to continue reading the Gaunt Ghost's series I put down for a while. (bad me )

Congratulations on you Golden Daemon successes too.

Hey mate, great stuff as always.

By the way, congrats on the trophies at GD Baltimore, personally I think you deserved at least silver in the squad category.

Looking forward to seeing the finished STEG.

Looking nice Dave. Lots of character in your army already. And I loved your entries at the GD. That red with the bone colored chaos insignia is looking mighty good as well!!

Thanks guys, the Demons went really well for me. Now my Blood Pact army can boast three GD-winning units!

@Dante - actually the Blood Pact squad was "upgraded" to Silver once it was discovered that they guy who bought the second place squad somehow managed to enter it on behalf of the painter. Done in all innocence, but still against the rules, so things have shaken out pretty well.

Don't forget to check out my blog and cast your vote in the poll! Link in sig.

The stalk tank model is totally awesome, however it doesn't look much like the descriptions I remember from the Gaunts Ghosts books... I seem to remember 2 underslung "heavy las" weapons pods in the nose containing some kind of hard-linked gunner in Matrix-esque fluid bath... or did I dream that?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Hi Flinty, thanks.

I think you've got a mix of memory and dream going on there. The descriptions do talk about a hard-wired servitor floating in a fluid-filled, underslung bubble and yes, mine does not include that guy ; ) Instead I chose to armor up his bubble so that I could concentrate on the rest of the "mechanics" of the piece. Now that I know how to build them I can start to incorporate the fiendish "bubbles". The guns, I think, are a different story.

For the rest of the look I took a lead from the Sabbat World Crusades artbook from Black Library. There's a really cool concept sketch to the rear of that book and I tried to remain faithful to that image.

Ah-ha.. I found my reference! Page 254 of Double Eagle (Dan Abnetts superb Battle of Britain-esque view of an air war trying to cover a massive ground retreat)

"Bright yellow, a stalk tank ripped into the outer clearing of the concealed base. Its underslung turrets recoiled as they spat out bursts of heavy las."

although, as always, I'm sure the GW artists and the author types don;t necessarily communicate that well

(and as I mentioned earlier, nothing detracts from the uberawesomeness of your model)

Hmm, I'll follow CMDante's congratulation comment for the GD. To be honest I think you had one of the few entries out there which I really liked! I mean some had good paintjobs, but none of models really stood out. Your stuff was kind of an exception to that!

Aaahhh se that's where the confusion comes into play, your quote says "a stalk tank" whereas mine is "The Stalk Tank!" ; )

Thanks for tracking that quote down though, I'm gonna re-read that section and get a few more ideas for the next one.

@Malika2 - thanks mate, I appreciate that!

which books in particular have the best reading when it comes to bloodpact? im gonna ramp myself up for a nurgle traitor guard force next summer and wanna get into the mindset.

your stuff looks really good, i enjoyed oogling it at gamesday. i particualry liked your simple yet effective display trays. do you prefer that to fancy scenic trays or was it a time issue?

Hi studdering dave

The best books for the Pact are Guns of Tanith, Straight Silver, and Sabbat Martyr. First and Only would be good for Nurglesque guys too.

I like the simplicity of the picture frame sprayed black. Puts the focus on the models rather than trying to make them "all fancy" or compensate for a flaw in the painting. Having said that I do still like well done dioramic bases for squad displays

Congratulations on the awards at GD! Those squads looks great and the stalk tank fantastic.

Whats the idea for the next Diorama you told me about? More Blood pact or something different?
