While Blood Ravens aren't really a new "race" I could see this being a viable option. After all there are wispers of a Blood Ravens codex.

If only Sly could assault on the DS.

I like the idea of space Lizards. I have no idea how they would bring them into the cannon though. Could use the "They came from another Dimension" approach. Would be another Assault heavy army with some Psychic powers to boot? hmm

The Eastern Fringe isnt controlled by the Imperium- its real easy to see a new race rising out of the dark wastes beyond any semblence of Imperial control ala the Tau to become a new 'major' (because really, compared to the other guys, the tau arnt really a major race) race.

The greater good is working it's way up. Though they will have some Nid troubles. I have no idea who I would cheer for if those two fought. I would love to see the book though.

Lizard men rise out of the darkness from the eastern fringe. I like that but what would their tech look like. And man they would hate space as a cold blooded species. ugh.

Oh god, having horrible flashbacks to Bucky O'Hare. Though a 40K version of Toadborg might be quite cool.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

20 Bucks says GW put the nids there to remove the Tau in case they didn't work out.

The Hrud (sp?) where mentioned a few times in planetstrike. Maybe not lizard men but rat men in space...

I just don't see the novelty of Squats. What about them is so damn appealing?

The more I think about it, the more I want Squats back in 40K. I remember all the cool super heavy vehicles they had in Epic, they would be awsome in Apocalypse. The Squats are still in Gothic as an ally of the Tau called the Demiurg, but would be cool to have the Demiug in 40k as they had some unique starship gear, which could be translated to the battle field. For instance, their starships could blast markers and debris in Gothic and use it to power a laser weapon (i think ). How cool would that rule be in 40K? Shoot a lascannon at a Squat/Demiurg tank and on a roll of 5+ it absorbs the energy and then fires back immediately with a shot of it's own.

Hmmm, I'm liking this already. Must try to write some Squat data sheets for Apocalypse to play test rules.

I guess it's just a matter of what you like. For instance I don't find Dark Eldar, Necrons or Chaos appealing. A lot of it is probably just the rose tinted spectacles of hindsight. If they were to come back exactly as they were it wouldn't be so great as they would just be short IG (except the mega-armoured squats as pre Brook's pic and some cool vehicles). They would need a proper re-working, but I think they could be really interesting. Plus I just like the idea of space dwarves.

a. Demiug/Squats
b. Sprats (space-rats get it?)
c. Dinosaucers (copyright infringement?)

All of the above I say! I don't see why they couldn't get those all out. Combine DH, WH, and Assassins. That way the WHFB players couldn't complain about 40K having more Codices.

If they were worried about money they have thousands of people who have ideas and would LOVE to create and play test a new race. For free. All they would have to do is give some people a mention in the credits.

It would've been better if Frazz said that one.

I wouldn't mind squats making a comeback as long as they can do something cool and original with them and not just make them really short guardsmen.

Anyhow, that part aside, I have a feeling that if they end up putting a new army into play that it is likely to be the Hrud.

Kroot were mentioned as early as the 3rd Edition BGB, but the Tau were nowhere to be found in the sample lists in the book itself... Just a thought.

a space dinosaur army would be in my opinion a lot cooler than space rats, I mean whats cooler a rat or a fething T-Rex.

I'd love to see a race inherently non-bipedal, and scary. Something close to the Shadows from Babylon 5.

High level of Tech, an 'Elite' Alien choice along the model count of a SM force.

Maybe a cross between Necrons and Tyranids. Not literally, but in look, feel and fighting.

Just my $0.02. As I'll be at GD Chicago, I'll know what's being said and not said 8 days from now.......
