I bear no responsibility for your financial situation after going there - I generally find I have to remove at last half my cart every time I use it because I've been scared by the number that comes up And I say that knowing full well how much I'm willing to spend on shinies that have just caught my attention and that I may have some possible use for later down the line.......

Enjoy emptying your bank account , That's a neat site MT thanks!

I use the " EMA Plasweld" liquid glue that they sell (in bulk!) there, It's a very strong glue it can melt through thin plasticard (0.25mm) quite easily, also it evaporates so fast ice forms (from moisture in the air) on your brush. I should really find something more mild.

Plastruct and Evergreen are the two main manufacturers (that I've come across) of plasticard shapes, I find evergreen is better at harder straight edges, as the plastic is sliced into shape on a lot of pieces.
Plastruct is mostly cheaper however, has a bit better range and it's easier to find in model shops.

personally I use "Squires tools and materials" and an ebay shop called "Arcane Scenery and Models".

In the top right/bottom right image the circular thing could almost be a wheel of a giant doom/dune buggy ;-)
Thanks Trollmeat. It probably could have made a good wheel. It's made from the two ends of a headtorch battery compartment, and the only such things I have.

Viktor von Domm wrote:Doc, this somehow reminds me of the slave one in midlflight... Asymmetric builds need a builder with balls to pull it off...good job mate!
Thanks Vik. We'll have to see how it turns out in the end.

Good work MT, building's are coming together well.

Proof of progress, although it's still not clear what the final thing will look like...

Adding details to break up any and all smooth surfaces. Slow going and frustrating, but getting there.

Hopefully this will be the slowest stage of the piece, After this is done I can move on to making the crater, wall and surrounding ground... Starting to wonder if I can get it done in time... as I will obsess over where every broken piece of UFO and wall, and plants and other little things will go... best get a move on

The rate I knock the bottles over (even putting blue tack underneath ) I might hve to do the same :

Your entry is looking nice MT, I like the paving, is that a plastic sheet from ema?

@GrimDork - Now imagine a 6'4" well built bloke saying it.

Lol ... Now about that dinner money you were going to give me.

Just made a wish list going through the site and it would be so easy to blow the next years hobby budget in one go. I guess the saving grace is I'm looking at crafting parts to the cast up so purchases will go a bit further than it could do.

Out of interest could the piece be the split second before the accident happens?

Thanks chaps. I hope that it will live up to expectations at the end.

"bizarre", "interest", and Giger are all aims of what I'm going for. Together with "weird", "unidentifiable" and "so which is the front?"...

the asymmetry reminds me of the aliens ship.
That may be because the Giger "Alien Wreck" is my main source of inspiration.

Sorry about the late start, I've now got a plan worked out and will be able to get cracking soon. The concept is simply a group of cultists attempting a ritual to bind a daemon to their will but instead open a warp rift which leads to the group becoming possessed themselves.

The altar itself is just about worked out design wise save any fine detailing. Total base size is 200mmx200mm:

I'm between these three ideas for the warp rift. Though leaning towards the first one for now I need to work out how to suspend it and keep it stable:

Thanks Gawdam'. Yeah, it is a bit heart shaped. That, at least, was not intentional.

El-Tor': If you want it suspended, you could have it "earthing" via lightning bolts to a few of the chappies. Does the job AND helps tell the story.

Putty-flavoured progress on my UFO:

The last thing there is a piece that has broken off (more to do on that yet).
Finishing off surface details on the UFO and then I may be able to start on the actual terrain...

@El-Tormentor; You know what could be cool, is if you made the rift completely 2-dimensional (well, as close as you can model, anyways)- you could use clear plastic, cut to shape and supported by the 'grounding' bolts, then painted over with a vortex of washes and inks and stuff. Thin wire (like, super thin) could be used for extra bits of forwards and backwards warpy-stuff. If you use, say, the sort of plastic that makes blister packaging (sized as you need, of course) it should be light enough to stay up okay.

It'll be fragile as all getout, of course, but it would look cool.

@ Dr. H - that wire work is amazing...

@ El Torminator - i like the floating rhombus idea...Dr. H and Anvildude already suggested the two suggestions i would have made...

@ Anvildude - nice pointers...couldn't have said it better myself. but would it not be 3d? 2d is a picture on a flat surface...i would have suggested plastic from a milk jug--that kind of translucent plastic--although any kind of packaging plastic would work.

does anyone know who the League's treasurer is? we are supposed to have lunch money from at least 2 new guys...who's keeping track of the funds?

I'm meaning, like, a full-on tear in reality sort of thing, where it's literally a cut in the fabric of the world, as opposed to some sort of magic sphere portal. That's the idea of something being 2D.

I really need to get started on mine. Luckily, I think once I start I'll be able to just roll right through it- I've got the equipment I need, really, to do large-scale shaping relatively quickly.

@Dr.H: Using lightning as a support for the portal was largely what I was considering doing. I like the idea of some of the cultists acting as anchors, that should be enough stability.

@Anvildude: The former is what I'm going for conceptually.

I'll see if I can get some use for this within the portal:

That is looking fantastic Tek, talk about setting a benchmark.

For the first time I might be in trouble. I got a house move coming up and my corner is looking ominously like I have to clear up. Could be my hopes dashed for this one. Don't write me off yet, but just getting my excuses in early.

Hey, I don't know how to enter without just saying "Hey, I don't know how to enter."

Can I enter? I was going through some of the earlier rounds and realised that although my terrain is 'serviceable', it's not as great as it could be *cue chain-link fence and barbed wire construction*.

And I had this old scratch-built Rhino lying around, so I thought, why the hell not?

Here's some in-progress shots of the build so far:

@ChrisWhite - send a PM to OneManNoodles asking to be in the contest, on the chance they didn't see you want to enter. IIRC, the piece should not consist of anything existing, i.e., worked on before this contest. you should check w/ OMN to see if your stuff is allowed.

welcome to the contest. now give me your lunch money.

@Tek - bunker looks awesome.,,did you make those shrubs with hot glue and flock? also, i don't mean to be a party pooper, but per the rules you were not supposed to post finished pics on this thread.
