Welcome to Round 13 of the League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Contest.

What Went Wrong! !

Greetings and salutations one and all, and welcome to this, the 13th League of Extra-ordinary riveters terrain competition.

For those who have not taken part before, this is a competition about terrain building (as the name may hint at), but not strictly limited to pure terrain, dioramas that can be used as table top terrain are allowed (see rules below). In the meanwhile those new whilst considering ideas may wish look at the 12 previous rounds which are linked below, each round has a “theme” or other defining attribute(s) that must in some way be applied to the your terrain project, to compete with other modellers for, that most prestigious of prizes, membership into the The League of extraordinary riveters [LoER].

The competition is open to everyone, all are welcome to enter regardless of ability, etc.

For those who are returning once again to compete a most sincere and heartfelt welcome back!

Past Competitions.

Contest #1 "Lids" (dsteingass)
Contest #2 "Cookie Package” (Viktor Von Doom)
Contest #3 "Fightin' Pit!" (MrMerlin)
Contest #4 "For the title of Master Shrubber" (Meade)
Contest #5 "Vehicles!" (Bruticus)
Contest #6 "We're Not Worthy!" (dMeade)
Contest #7 "Fire at Will" ( hk1x1)
Contest #8 "All are welcome" (Camkierhi)
Contest #9 “Elementary" (Littletower)
Contest #10 "The Throne" (Camkierhi)
Contest #11 "On The Road" (Red Harvest)
Contest #12 "Wall me up, fence me in " (monkeytroll)

... And onwards to the current competition.

An accident. In progress, recent, past, or ancient.

It can be a building, some weird machine or vehicle but it must be terrain.

It doesn't have to be human, it can be Sci-Fi, historical, alternate history, fantasy, any mix or non of the above.

For this competition, since it is a slightly more quiet time of year than the previous competition covered and additionally I am allowing 12 weeks within which to complete it.
So plenty of room to be a little more ambitious with entries, also the theme allows for more dioramas.

Rules:

1. MUST be finished, by the competition deadline, allright I'll give 20 or so hours extra because It'll take me a while before I can post them up.
2. It should be scratch-built or heavily converted, use of unconventional parts is highly recommended, but obviously the more you scratch build the better. (e.g. you'll get points for using watch parts but you'll get more if you make the gears yourself … and possibly questions of sanity
3. Any scale, any gaming system or even none are acceptable. I cannot stress this enough, ANY gaming system; Fantasy, Sci-Fi, historical, a mix of all 3, I don't care, if it looks awesome that's good enough for me!
4. It can be purely playable terrain, or diorama based. But it cannot be a playable model(s) a diorama with removable models is fine however.
5. Post the occasional WIP in this thread, and of course links to more WIPs on your own threads or galleries or blogs. Have at least 1 WIP of the unpainted or unfinished project please, and with a mini on a recognizable base size (25mm) for scale.
6.Minimum area of 10 x 10 cm or 4 x 4 inches, I'm not going to come and measure it, just bigger than a normal model base size and no it does not have to be square. Upper limit is whatever you can AND finish! Height limit does not exist.
7. Final entry - Six or more photos of your final entry, showing all the important parts - not to be posted in this thread. PM me with links to your galleries, albums, etc.
8. Rivets?!

I'll give a bit of lee-way on these, if you are unsure ask.

 lone dirty dog wrote:

By miniatures I'm going to take that to mean not vehicles.(?)
You can have miniatures yes and I'll say if they are removable then it's fine if they are playable, but I'd like to see some pictures of the terrain without them. just not playable on the terrain ... I think that sounds right?

If you do mean vehicles then they'll have to be terrain, so not playable.

Competition length:

Send your links to pictures of your entries etc. to me before:

00:00 GMT 29th March

Which is a bit under 12 weeks away … plenty of time.
I'll then do my best to decide on a winner.

Judging:

Modelling - 30 points

Painting - 30 points

Interpretation, imagination and creativity - 30 points

Coolness etc - 10 points

I will probably ignore the point system when considering unless I really get stuck...

Use your imagination; creativity and realism are the things I value most.

The Judges:

Myself ...
Volunteers welcome.

Prizes:

First Prize: League membership
In addition to the above as though it could not be topped, the winner shall receive a pile of my resin terrain bits designed etc and cast by myself, alternatively I may offer the winner some other price, maybe I can make something special for them (terrain or vehicle), however I am a slow builder just to warn you.

2nd prize: Bits like above.

For third prize, you get a warm feeling inside from the knowledge that you were not second.

People's Choice: As voted for by your fellow dakkanauts, prestige, bragging rights, more positive waves.

And congratz noodles, you won...now see for yourself what that got you you have to judge upon so many entries that will all be soooo uniquely different, or dare we say incomparable....mwahahaha....

I'll try and simplify it.

Why didn't I think of something simple like a water feature

It can be a building or a vehicle or neither

From what I can tell, it's build an accident. In progress, recent, past, or ancient.

That sum it up all right, OMN?

I should be able to do something for this one, and include the fence I didn't get around to for the last one.
Have to get thinking though...

That is 3 feet, 3⅜ inches... which is most of my table.

Few ideas popped into my head, but can you confirm the minimum size? D-:

So... a 3 foot accident...in progress...hmmm...

I will have to think about this for a bit.

If inspiration should strike in a timely manner, I'll join in.

I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with!

Not absolutely sure but I think OMN means 10cm x10cm(approx. 4 in x 4 in). Though I could be wrong!

Several ideas at the moment. Looking forward to this.

Well, the idea I've come up with looks like it'll be 1m*1m, so if the minimum requirement is smaller I can just not make it as massive. I'm in either way :-D

(though, I should probably not jump straight in and wait for clarification, 1m*1m is actually quite massive now that I've got the measuring tape out)

I did mean 10 cm (or 4 inches), stuck thinking in mm...

I only put it in to mean bigger than a standard mini base size.

Feel free to make it in metres if you really want, good luck storing it and getting it finished on time!

@ commissarbob: if you want, although you don't necessarily have to do a vehicle accident, I know it's what most people are familar with (unfortunately).

@ Vik: sorry for a bit of a hic-up at the start there.

@ DrH: Foil hat territory there.

I'll update the OP with that info, might end up needing an FAQ...

I've also added the link to this round into the end of last competition, thanks for catching that one!

Good to have you all on board , I know the theme may be a little odd, but I'm certain there are plenty of interpretations so if you look beyond the obvious you can have a lot of fun ...

... anyone thought up something with Injury lawyers?

Alright three months? I'll finish *something* by that time. Maybe it'll be my best work yet, and maybe it'll be something I scramble to finish on time, but baring illness/injury/unforeseeable occurrences....

COUNT ME IN!

An accident that's either happen or has happened? So an exploding tank, or a ruined cityscape that fell over domino style in ages past? Certainly not doing much to limit the Imagination. Cool, I'll think of something

I would like it if the accidents stayed purely terrain based please!

@GrimDork: Pretty much!
exploding tanks are fine although it may be odd if they blew up on their own ... unless they are orks in which case it's probably normal

Well thinking to 40k what about an Executioner Leman Russ? Plasma *is* pretty volatile in the 40k lore

A nose dived crashed plane/jet/chopper sounds fun but it would involve too much of an existing kit.

The tricky part for this one (for me at least) is to come up with an accident that I can feasibly craft mostly by hand.

Maybe some kind of tower falling over into a building could work. Could always use another building...
