The sheer scale of this project is amazing. Is this something you'll ever play with you think or just a super-cool toddler sized display piece?

Im playing an APOC game in 3-4 weeks to celebrate the end of 8th... so a bit of both maybe!?

Over the last 2 days I completed the rivets/details on 1 foot and today started on the other one:

Once completed I’ll detail the underside and then take a borrowed electric dreamily to it all for more distressing...

More solid work today on the Right/mid-step foot:

In other interesting news... the silicon and rubberised bits got back from the spray booth!

The Tamiya Fine Grey self etching primer WORKS!! The fine dusting (after sanding) holds the black undercoat well!

And the end of the build phase is in sight!!!!!

This means I only have 1 week to complete the build!

Sweet! It’s been an amazing job to watch progress, and I’m certainly looking forward to see it get some paint... I mean LOTS of paint! If that list is written on plastic add, it’s be cool to use it on the model as an extra panel each day you finish! Not that I want to suggest delay!

Thanks very much but no time at all for delays!

Finished the mid-step right foot today:

Which means tomorrow I’ll be finishing the underside... it’s all coming together very nicely indeed!

More good rivet work (no pics sorry) and lots of last minute prep work today for base coat spray painting tomorrow. Tomorrow I’m writing a quick to do list before we base spray the whole module tomorrow afternoon (if it’s warm enough)! Tomorrow’s to do list so far:

1. Planning meeting
2. Finish gunnels and gantries
3. Finish distressing right foot with dremil.
4. Clean up the feet and bottom.
5. Final check and last second detailing.
6. Prep silicon and rubber surfaces by sanding them.
7. Brush model off.
8. Vacuum model.
9. Very final check.
10. BASE SPRAY PAINT!

I hope you all have a healthy appetite for photos, because I have a feast!

I would like to thank Tamyia for making an amazing self etching base coat spray and my RL mate who came and helped today to push Terror-Watt to the paint stage!

I now have to let the paint cure for a few days and should start the first paint coat in the weekend

That looks great after priming, really bringing everything together for the first time. How many rattlecans did you need?

He looks even better than I expected, amazing that the spray went on so well on so many different materials too. Can’t wait for the paint to cure so he can start to get some colour!

Thanks, I’m very happy with the results so far, we now have 4 empty cans

I was cleaning out the workshop today (ready for painting phase) and never though I would be taking a photo, but a picture says 1000 words:

My friends airbrush arrived along with a lot of good advice and tutoring.... the first coat of silver (Velalio Air Aluminium) was applied:

One more coat of silver and then the other metalics

That’s an amazing pile of empty glue pots! The Gargant is already looking great, I bet you’re glad of the airbrush with something that size!

Thanks. Yeah there was a lot of good glue used, probably 1/5 of the whole budget was spent on good glues!

More work today with the fantastic airbrush saving me once again many hours:

Now Terror-Watt is super silver! Off to the model shot tomorrow for 1L of Nuln Oil

More progress, Terror-Watts back and engine all base coloured:

It’s amazing how many bits you miss on a model this size, even on the 3ed time!

As a base colour record (mostly for myself):

These colours will make up a majority of the visible armour layers

I can't even imagine seeing your comment about the missed bits, I do it on infantry models, despite spraying them from all angles
I'm already excited for that bright orange, Terror-Watts will glow!

There were a lot of missed bits, but they have a grey base so not a hard fix! It’s great to see the enormity of my progress... but base colour blocking is no fun at all!

Terror-Watt is slowly becoming less and less shining silver:

I’m 1/2 way through the gun metal after finishing the tinbits base colouring today!

Looking better every pic! Have you switched to normal brush for the blocking out or are you still borrowing your mates airbrush?

Thanks! I am brushing the metallic colour blocks to maintain edge details and after finishing the ‘Tin-Bits’ I also completed the ‘Boltgun Metal‘ and now I’m 1/2 way through the ‘Chainmail’:

This is having a great effect and breaking up all the major armour panels, I’m not completely 100% happy with the head, but near enough.

After I have washed all the metals I’ll then move onto all the actual colours (Browns, Reds, Oranges, yellows....)

Really coming together! But you have someone check in on you from time to time, before you go mad, right?

Thanks, that sounds like hard won advice!

An important part of the Model arrived today (much thanks for all the hard work of an engineer friend)... the base:

Milled/Lathed mild steel (for strength and weight/counterbalance) measures 320mm Dai and will add yet more stability to the model.

You’ll be needing lifting tackle for this with a heft base like that! Particularly if it was thick enough to be turned on a lathe.

Thanks, the milled steel base is only 2x as heavy as the plywood one so Terror-Watt should have a sound plinth!

More work today with the ‘chainmail’ which is quite tedious... I finished the Zappa, Gutbuster and got 1/2 way through the Rota Kannon before I had to stop and do something more fun! That ended up being the copper on the Zappa:

This turned out SUPER! I love the effect even without washes!

Solid work today on finishing the metalics on the feet, underside and Rotor Kannon:

Tomorrow I’ll be assaulting the engine with various metalics! The only metalic that I haven’t got yet is brass, I’ll be adding this on just before I start the washes.

The final base arrived from the engineer (thanks for all your wonderful help!!) all welded and shined up and ready for some self etching spray:

(Falcon/base decoration shown for scale) Once I have finished the metalics I’ll start prepping the base!

I had to go back and check your drawing to realise that the ring is thinner on the inside by about 10mm. It looks a bit like a filleted curve or is it chamfered? Was there a particular reason for that or did you just want to give your friend a challenge?

Thanks, it’s designed to represent the bottom edge of the Ork Powerfield touching the ground... and he likes a good challenge!

Thanks, I’m having a ball making it and it’s humbling to be an inspiration!

Finishing all the metallics on the whole model today (apart from brass):

Tomorrow I’m off to the model shop for some brass!

Thanks, it’s very STOMPY indeed!

Today was supposed to be wash day... but the courier arrived and after 8 long COVID infested months, the last final bits arrived to add trophies to the Big Zappa!!

And what mighty fine ornaments they make!

With that completed... tomorrow is wash day!!
