Looking good! I'm digging the tips and chatter about your experiences with the airbrush. I'm looking to get one myself soon and so this is helping me to get a better idea.
I love the terrain and the vending machine..
Though the badger paints have me thinking of.. Badger, Badger, Badger...etc. an internet meme/video on youtube.
Keep being awesome!

so mate, you are now on touchup level with that airbrush??? how cool is that...you are running in your progress now...congratz mate...sky is the limit now...when you feel that confident...when will you start painting something far smaller than a terrain piece? tank...or if you are most daring a mini? some simple thing like a nid could work for starters...
the link you gave instantly went into my favorite list...i think i have to later on digest that site for any further tips...went to the page about embossing and i think that guy has some nice tricks up his sleeve...
by the way...the tower now looks very neat... so will you try to use a wash with the airbrush? would like to see how this could work...or is that the wrong medium of paint for this methode? dunno...airbrushes are still a mystery...

Yes, I plan on trying the wash with the airbrush tonight on all the recessed panel lines and rivets. I will probably spray the wash on the bulkheads too. Washes are ok, because they are thin, I'm just not sure about metallic paints, from what I read I need to switch to the larger nozzle for metallics. More research is needed there.
I am using a Badger Model 150 bottom feed, dual action, internal mix airbrush. I paid just over $90 for the deluxe set over a year ago. My first airbrush was a Paasche VL that I acquired secondhand, the needle was bent and it wasn't cleaned properly, and never worked right-so that is probably the source of my anxiety and fear.
I think I am figuring it out, but the manual is convoluted IMHO, It gives you the instructions to "turn the adjusting screw", so you flip back to the parts diagram- it lists a part# "50-0432 Adjusting screw" but look at the diagram- that number is not listed at all. And there is no part at all in front of the trigger on my airbrush!
And the diagram shows part#s starting with 51-xxx, but no 51-xxx part numbers are in the list!
Sort of frustrating.

Six pages....That is what I had to skim through this morning! Good grief man!
LOVE the vending machine! I lol'ed! You need some snack packets made? I could do that I think! I'll look into it!
The weathering on the round tower is very Nice! I really like it!
I have the same aribrush! Well, mine's a bit older...I got mine in 1990 or so. But it's the same model, and it still works! I have found though that the top feeds are SOOOO much easier! But the bottom feed works too! You just seem to waste less paint when switching colors with the top feed.
I too did some airbrush work this weekend! I don't have pics yet though, but I base painted my first Rhino since 1995! I think it's looking pretty good, I'll get some pics up soon.
Keep up the great work!

oh that is creepy... the manual is kind of fighting a secret war against you... but since you did so well already i think there is no need to second guess your work...
besides... i would rather use brushes for metal any time... somehow i think this is better done that way than airbrushed on...also... all the users seem to make then NMM instead of using metal colors...maybe there is your solution...
and at jake...that sounds like a good idea done by you^^
as for the adjusting...the only way i could think of doing that would be at the tip ...i am thinking waterhose right now... do you have such a thing..or remeber them of old days... you jst screwed the tip or unscrewed it and you either got a hard stream or that fine spray sprinkle...well that is my layman opinion...^^

Yeah, you're right Vik..See, I think it's the damn poorly-written manual making me think I can do something I can't. I dunno- I sent Badger an email with those pics, let's see how their customer service is.
Yes Jake, Thanks for stopping by and commenting man, I appreciate it, as always!

back in the days at the university one of my profs would let us do a manual for a term grade... well let me just say i refused to follow that option and i did a presentation about something i have long forgotten^^ manuals are a deed of the devil...

@ El Vic, What suggestion? The Food Packets? I think that would be awesome! Some MRE types, and maybe some junk food! Although, I'll just do the packets, Dave can do the painting.
Dave - I have never used the screw, because I find that I don't get the same dispersal consitantly at the same pressure for long anyway, something alwasy gets clogged or something, but I haven't tried to make fine lines either. My hand is not that steady. For lines I would just do the masking tape method. I hear there is some tape/film out there that is not very sticky, but still holds to the surface well enough to do the job. I need to find that stuff. I'm always afraid of ripping off the paint of the previous layer. If I have to use the blue tape for masking, I unstick it by putting my fingers on the sticky part for a minute or so...that's sounds dirty...and then putting it down, and running an eraser or something similar along the edge to reduce seepage.
And yes, it looks like either you have a model that is newer than the manual, or there is something wrong with your brush...I'd bet on the former.
That manual actually shows my older model, with the tapered back of the handle. Unlike the squared off handle of the one you have. Just an old manual I'd bet.

Yep, thai is what I am thinking too Jake. No wonder nobody buys American Made stuff anymore LOL. I kid, it works just fine, I was just thinking there was some secret fine tuning gizmo that was hiding from me. I also noticed the handle shape. Googling Badger 150 shows pics of both versions.

RSJake@ the tape I think you mean is made by Tamiya it's a masking tape but very low tac so does not damage your paint underneath it is designed for this purpose but I am sure there will be other manufacturers.
There is also a liquid masking solution as well you can get which i have seen used and mentioned before which is supposed to be rather good.
Thanks for the pic of the airbrush and the instructions seemed to be designed by morons read them once stick them in the draw with all those year guarantee and never look open them again

Yep, I use Tamiya 10mm tape, AND the cheap blue stuff for house trim. If you let the paint beneath dry, you do not need to worry about it pulling up the paint below. It is Easier than it sounds.
I don't think I'll ever apply washes by hand ever again!
The airbrush is much better.
Successive washes of black wash and brown ink.
