They do but count as beasts but the issue is - do old beastmasters still 'work'? and if so can I then use a foot wych as a beast master?

I'd say a foot wych armed with a crazy back pack style splinter pod weapon would be pretty cool. Maybe shoulder mounted? The board just makes it easier to represent the 2 shot, 18" poisoned gun they have. If you can rep that on a single model running with the other gear I say go for it

I didn't call it that, GW did.

I was aware of that.

Please do, in 40k general. Then I can go into more detail with pics of non-GW alternatives.

I dunno if its just me but isn't that webway portal the same exact product as the vortex grenade template they sold when Apoc came out? Is G-dub being sly again?

Nope, same thing with a new paint job.

A buddy of mine just tried the new codex after getting a hold of an advance copy. 2000 points; half warriors, half wyches, with Asdrubael Vect as an HQ, and plenty of reavers. Took down a space wolf army down to Ragnar and a wolf guard squad in two turns. Ragnar took seven reavers by himself, sweeping advanced the rest, then died to all the combined fire. 4+ poisoned splinter rifles with tons of dark lances will mess up a dude. Gonna try my hand at it with an Ork list.

That's where I think they'll shine, keeping it simple. As many lances and poisoned shots as you can squeeze into a list, with either wyches, incubi, or wracks as melee support.

I have to say the prices for all these models aren't too bad. It's still more than I would like, but it's bearable...seems like they actually want to sell DE models this time.

Although $50 for the ravager...I'd have expected $45, but jeez, $49.50 sounds like a little too much for what's basically just a raider with sponsons. :\

I still hate the hellions, and 50$ for the ravager is meh. I still can't wait to get my hands on these models though, my only fear is that on november 6th I am going to walk into my FLGS and everyone there is going to have DE.

I think I've got my buy list:

3x warriors
3x wyches
1x nid gargoyles (to make 10 scourges w/ box o' warriors)
2x incubi
2x lotr wargs or chaos warhounds
2 x ravagers
4x raiders
1x hellions (beastmasters)
about£10 of paint

~£250 which is about right for a decently mechanised 2000pt army

I couldn't find anything in the codex, but does anything address how Beatmasters as a unit move, since they count as jump infantry, with mixed and matched beast... maybe its unfamiliarity but are there different movement rules for "Beast" type units?

I think one of the interesting parts of the codex that few have discussed is character driven troop choices... being able to take Helions and Wracks as troops, will make for interesting army choices that few have discussed.

Read the Beastmasters Unit entry, they have special Skyboards that make them Beasts, not jump infantry.

Yeah, I realized that... I kinda asked the question I was thinking in my head without asking the question it lead to. I think I just asked my question poorly. I was trying to get more at if its regarded as an advantage or disadvantage over being jump infantry. Never really used "beasts" so I'm not familiar.

I think it might be interesting to convert them riding some creature... hmmm exodite-ish?

And here's one good reason at least to field Mandrakes (infiltrate): he can attach to the unit when he arrives and gains a meatshield for that turn.

I must say, those images on GW site made me wish an army like that... I mean, imagine that hellions and jetbikes flying at full speed around Raiders filled with blood thirsty W(B)yches!!!! Its just what i wanted on my speed freak orkz!!!!

you GW, now i will have to spend money!!!!

My only hope is that the codex dont let you do something like that, if this army go for some "obrigatory shooter" way, I could forget it.

PS: welcome to a new age guys, now Land Raider will be just a overcostly transport, and Battle Wagon will be lost to eternity... All praise the Dark Lance!!! (with Melta)

So you're angry why? Because that's exactly how DE have always been and from what we know of the new codex it will be even more like that now, with lot's of various options. I've always enjoyed popping Land Raiders 1st or 2nd turn.

Phototoxin wrote:at worst an army 'roates' about every 5 years... vs 1 year/ 3 months for mtg

Yep and for DE it's been a 10 year rotation...DE are like freaking Pluto (ya, don't care if pluto isn't classified as a planet anymore).

So it'll be just like the good old days?

There is a saying that is fairly common in military circles "adapt and overcome". It applies very well to tabletop wargaming as well. Things change, get used to it. The game is as much about what you do on the tabletop as it is about what you do off the tabletop in preparation.

I'd hardly say that the land raider will be subordinate to the raider. For instance even if a land raider got hit by a lance weapon it would still have more armour than an actual raider. Its also more heaviliy armed (hello side sponsons and mainweapons!). The land raider will likely always be a great transport for imperials. Lance weapons and monstrous creatures are the only things that are really a form of threat to it. My dark angel land raider has been in many, many games and I'm still waiting for it to go up in flames. Its been immobilised and had every weapon blown off it before but its still clung to life (and its never failed to get troops to where i need them). I somehow dont see the life span of a raider being very long. DE players will have to be careful with where they send them. Yes they will get there quickly and yes they have a decent weapon but they dont have any form of endurance unless travelling full out to get a bonus from moving. Anyway what im trying to say is that the vehicles very much embody the army they serve in. Space marines sacrifice speed for great endurance and still have solid weapons to use. Dark eldar use speed and fire power to meet their goals but at the cost of getting there as safely as slower armies would. At the end of the day its all about the play style of the army.

Especially when it's just the raider body plus two side guns, minus the guys clinging to the sides, they could have just done an upgrade kit in that case.

Extra sprue is still expensive to produce, hence cost.

And it comes with three guys to hang off the side, according to the website.

Sorry, question for anyone who has seen the kits - is the ravager kit all the raider sprues plus one extra sprue containing guns and extra bits? Or does it drop one sprue that is included in the raider box?

The ravager comes with an extra sprue... At least if you count what GW site says...

And yeah, you will have an spare sprues...

About the LA and MTG... I was just joking guys, lol

But the "armamentist run" is normal, when they make a new codex, they must balance it with the other codex on the market, and for that they must make it usefull by someway, DE as i see until now, is a shooty army with 50% to wound (normally) (4+ to wound or penetrate) and hit very nice on ranged. I was hopping that they where nice in melee, because i really loved the ideia I cited before (you know: razors and hellions flying at right speed, around riders full of W(B)yches).

And for sure, it is not comparable to magic... You dont NEED to buy a new army each year, you can just use the old one you have with some adjustments after they release a new codex (and when the thing go really bad, use count-as =D)

From what I can determine from the GW site its an extra sprue so you can still have extra hangers on
