Well, now I know why the eldar forest ruins are $130 USD. It's a lot of plastic, and they have no bases either. They just stand there on their own

*Edit.

Adding a pic from the WD showing eldar and imperium working side by side this goes hand in hand with the rumors of a boxed set that has marines and dire avengers i saw on facebook from one of the more popular rumor sites

The Marines/Dire Avengers thing was people trolling. They were trying to be smarmy about the shift from square to round bases from WHFB to AoS.

You just described the end of the Storm of Chaos campaign from a number of years back.

Yea isn't that almost a perfect picture of what Grimgor Ironhide did to Archaon? LMAO

Oh God I can hear the b*tching already...

 Galef wrote:

And many of their 'gods' may actually just be the Old Ones that created the Aeldari in the first place. The ancient Eldar remembered them to tell and retell their stories. After a few millennia, they just become known as the Eldar pantheon. But in reality, the Eldar gods were merely the Old Ones
Slaanesh, & Ynnead are the only 'gods' we have any proof of. The Avatars of Khaine don't prove Khaine is a god, as they may just be left over technology that the Craftworld Eldar have ritualized and forgotten their true origins. They could be weapons left over from the War in Heaven against the Necrons.

-

All of those are equally possible.

As is my personal understanding that they are the psychic manifestations of the Eldar's racial memory of the Old Ones during the War in Heaven.

1. Eldar fight alongside Old Ones as weapons of war during the War in Heaven
2. Necrons wipe out Old Ones
3. The Eldar build a mythology around the departed Old Ones, and due to their inherently psychic nature they manifest their Gods in the warp

That's my favourite explanation anyway explains things like how similar Cegorach and The Deceiver are, and how they're both credited with tricking the C'Tan into consuming themselves. They're the same entity (or rather one's based on the other), but viewed from two sides of the conflict.

Saying that, I do like the idea of the Avatars being leftover weapons of war that the eldar have come to ritualise and believe are shards of one of their gods that's a neat idea that would be cool if true

Vorian wrote:

Well, it's all a bit ill defined now, but the Eldar Gods existed - the Avatars of course, but Cegorach is still there, Isha is in Nurgle's garden.

How they actually fit in with the old ones is left vague, but the Eldar Gods existed before the Eldar, rather than coming into being because of them. Unlike Slaanesh and Ynnead which are reflections of them.

While I agree that Slaanesh and Ynnead are the only two gods that we have reliable evidence were created by the Eldar, the rest is all based on mythology and hearsay. It's been 60 million years since the Eldar Gods were last around. I'd be willing to bet some of the detail has been lost to the sands of time, and other details added. We've no way of telling whether the Eldar Gods predated the Eldar...or whether the Eldar just believe they did...

Yeah i really like that too, but mainly because it makes me slightly suspicious. I don't quite buy the 'this is what all eldar psychic constructs look like'.

Khaine doesn't.

This might be breaking the fluff/actual model wall but I suspect if they re-did the Avatar of Khaine it would have similarities to the Yncarne. It would be more fluid and dynamic and less brick like.

There are limits to what mid-1990s technology could do.

Interesting. You know I think they might do that. Saying that, there's the honking great Forgeworld Avatar that's much newer (and much cooler) and looks exactly the same.

Not that that says much of course.

Lythrandire Biehrellian wrote:
The eldar gods are NOT old ones. Their war in heaven is different than the necron one.

The codex states explicitly that the eldar have their mythology, but remember the conflict with the necrons alongside their ALLIES the old ones. The old ones taught them to use the webway, the eldar do not believe they were their gods, nor their creators.

Even the necron codex stopped saying "which the eldar call the war in heaven" simply stating it was called the war in heaven. Two separate events, you less you think the eldar WORSHIPPED both the necrons and old ones (which is patently untrue)

/Rant

Now that I'm not so sure about. There's every possibility that both Wars in Heaven are the same event remembered differently by two different cultures. In fact, I'd say that that's the most likely scenario. There's so many parallels between the two events. Characters that are similar in disposition, and credited with similar feats (namely Cegorach and The Deceiver).

Also, remember that the way that the Eldar remember the events of the War in Heaven is through their mythology. Their entire culture, even their language, revolves around their mythology. It's an imperfect way of remembering things, and subject to 60 million years of change from the moment when the Eldar knew exactly what was happening during the War in Heaven to the present day where it's all myths and legends to them.

Hell, we don't even know how much is true and how little around King Arthur, and that was less than 700 years ago.

You're free to interpret it however you like of course - but your explanations are just your own.

As it relates to this release though, Slaanesh and Ynnead are the only Eldar Gods that coalesced from the Eldar in the canon, and I think it's a good thing they took design elements from Slaanesh over into Ynnead

I love Jes' sketches in the white dwarf (as I always love his Eldar sketches anyway)

From Faeit (i dont believe)

1. the bolt pistol may belong to Cypher
2. three books for gathering storms series
3. each book will have a trio of characters
4. last book is called the rise of legend/Primarch?, which obviously include a Primarch
5. last trio of characters will be: Grandpa Smurf, Cypher and a Grey Knight Master (my source saw photos of both Cypher and Knight Master, but didn't see Gradpa Smurf yet)
6. then 8th edition
7. Abaddon is likely to be killed during the last book, GW staffs are jokingly saying killed by the bolt pistol
8. dwarf release and gryph hound release should still be there, but the focus is to finish off gathering storm series and launch 8th edition

Add on
40k new edition's content will be much reduced, but still bit longer than AoS rules, around 30 pages, likely release date will be summer. after Book III of the gathering storm.

Looks real to me. Makes sense that the first Primarch would be Gulliman I suppose.

Am thinking that the last book being 'good guys' and a big release of a Primarch would make sense.

Then perhaps leading us into a final trilogy concentrating on the 'bad guys' with releases in April, May, June with 8th edition dropping during July?

Just throwing out thoughts, probably completely wide of the mark and the image is probably a fake...lol

Lion or Dorn would be so much more interesting. If it really is Girlyman, I suppose it makes sense with smurfs being the poster boys.

Well I won't be buying the last triumvate if that is true just on principal as I am never buying a smurf.

It is weird all the others are full of colour and chatacter and Marines get Captain Beige founder of the Vanilla marines.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis
