I didn't say it wasn't difficult, or that it didn't take skill, but it's not sculpting. That's all.

And, yes, so far, I can't even pan around the cube. This may take some getting used to.

I could never stand that program...
When one of my instructors made us use it..

In short. Nope.
You want a less stressful 3D program and that costs money.
Blenders wonderful and far above every other in one thing.

Great idea with the angled wrist Anvil!

Rogue is right, she's not that tech priest-y, but isn't that the way you want it gendoikari87?

I'm sure I can add some optional equipment after the final sculpt is done, for those who want her to look more techy.

But from the fluff of the character he wanted her based on, she shouldn't be overly techy, as she is not a full-fledged tech priest.

But like I said, I can make an alternate head, and maybe a servo harness that can be optional.

Wow! My 2000th Post! Wooot!

Yup, she's not a fully fledged tech priest, and the back story i'm making for her, is basically a mid level ranking secutor (think warrior tech priest) Basically instead of focusing study on making guns or fixing things or studying living organisms, she studies the way of the warrior, the way of the blade. As opposed to normal secutors that make themselves just short of being living walkers, she is an expert an very fast swordswoman. Think speed and agility v heavy armor.

She's supposed to be armored enough to take a bit of damage but be flexible enough to be a very nible fighter, and more importantly swordswoman.

sexy but not overly busty (anything more than a handful is really a waste anyway). I gotta say, you nailed it.

Oh that! I don't have one, but I have heard of it being done. Something along the lines of putting two facing each other on like a record turn table, standing up on end. Then you put the model in the middle on something that doesn't spin, and it the Kinects run around it.

Sculptris looks like it might be okay.

And I know that google sketchup can do great things towards buildings but is alittle fussy.

Blender is actually working pretty well for me. Maybe because I haven't used any other 3D program. I am having a few issues with navigating the screen, but I'm figuring it out!

I took some pics last night of what the (still unpainted) Skull covered Extra Armor plates look like on my (still unpainted) Mk I Rhino.

I have enough copies of the plates now, I just need to make a production mold, and thenI can get these bad boys up for sale!

If anyone is familiar with Blender, I'd like to ask a few questions. Thanks.

Skulls for the Skull Rhino!

Those are so sick and totally want some. I owe you a package anyway, so let me know what you'd like for $$$ or trade and I'll send that along w/ the other random stuff I said I'd send 6 months ago and we'll finally settle up.

Received and replied.

Those plates look like they would work with a lot of things and I'm positive that people will really like them. You should do a P&M blog that prfiles models being converted w/ your castings. It's worked well for other sellers I've seen on Dakka.

I've also got a bit of Blender experience. The first thing I'd suggest, though, is to check out the "Blender 3D- Noob to Pro" Wikibook. It's pretty awesome.

Also, if you're having issues with lag, look at getting an older verison. Most of the updates are mostly cosmetic and related to animation, so I think you'd be able to still do the same skulpting with the older format- Also, I think the prior version's interfaces are easier to use.

I use version 2.49b myself.

Thanks Anvildude, I actully fixed what was wrong, but I don't know what I did....so I hope it doesn't happen again.

After messing around with it yesterday, I came up with this Steampunk Shotgun. It's still a little rough, but I like the looks so far.

Let me know what you think.

Hey Jake,
I think that's looking pretty awesome for a first draft!
Amazing start!

My one thought is that I think that the handle looks rather small. Or if thats proper size I think that the main 'body' (for lack a better word) otherwise looks like it would be unfeasable to weild.

Yeah, I just now started figuring out how to manipulate the shape of the blocks, so I am going to slim the body down a bit, but the handle may be small, although, that will most likely get chopped off when putting it on a model....I'll work on it.

Thanks for the input!

One issue for when you're making Steampunk items is that the idea of Steampunk is very much of a decorative utility. If you're using something like this program, for prototyping, you will be able to shove a massive amount of detail into it- I'd suggest figuring out how the Shotgun works ( steam chamber that launches the projectiles? Spring launched? Is it a muzzle loader, break action? Is it a wheel-lock type of non-cartridge weapon?) and design it around that.

If it's just a basic, run of the mill gun, I'd suggest less gearage, and more lacework type decoration- also, more curves and organic shapes.

Basically, it'll either be odd and industrial, or fancy.

Thanks Dave, it would be easier to send you a set of plates so you could take the pictures! I may do that.

I do agree with Anvildude on the "style" of the shotgun, it looks too modern, with gears thrown on it. I just google'd steampunk shotgun, and there is some wacky stuff out there! I somehow don't think old radio tubes are going to do anyhting for a shotgun. But the search did give me some ideas.

Not everything Steampunk needs to have a steam power source, that seems to be a common misconception. It refers to a rough era of history, before internal combustion engines. A shotgun is completely mechanical today as it was in the 19th century. Be careful that you aren't trying to reinvent macaroni and cheese, it's perfect the way it is

Yeah, I was going to give it some levers and add some details I just learned to do. I'll keep the first one, but I think you'll like the next one too.

It's just that the first one looks like a Mossberg with gears. Which is not bad.

I think making it ridiculously ornate with a distinct baroque feel to it would be the way to go. I think the propellant for the shells (gunpowder, etc) would remain the same.
