Anvildude - I say, if it's not Baroque, don't fix it. But seriously, I'll look into adding some filigree and rivets and ornate stuff. Still getting the hang of this.

Dave, the gears are not showing up well for some reason, the rendering seems to be lacking detail for some reason, I'll try to figure it out, but the gears are pretty beefy I think, it's just hard to see them.

I am still working on both of the shotguns, I like them both, and want to keep them. The first one is going to get a telescoping stock, and I might just take the gears off and make it more modern, not sure.

The second one, I want to make the stock more curvy, and maybe incorporate the handle into the stock like older shotguns, but I am still learning how to do stuff, so it's a slow go.

I think I will also use Blender to make the "light sabre" blade for the female tech priest, so I can get those nice clean lines.

I also want to make those magazines and clips and spare ammo that Vik had asked for. I think this is the way to do that!

I might not get much done on Blender today, I really need to get some actual work done at work. Go figure huh?

So much for not working on this stuff. But I had an idea foa better stock for the Shotgun Mk II's stock, and I wanted to try it out. Still more work to do on it, but here it is so far:

Jake have you though about steam punk carbines bases upon your pistols you made? I had a cool concept done up but it looks almost exactly like your shotgun

Well, depending on how long it takes me to make a draw a few things, and get them printed, I might have them available before the summer is out. Who knows?

Why? That could all be hollow stamped metal and a plastic stock. AKs are big blocky guns too, but they don't weigh much at all, because just like an M16 they are mostly hollow inside.

feel free to do as much as you want in blender. you might want to try out sculptis though.

can they even print it out in a clear blue resin? or are you just going to have them print it out and then make a mould of it and cast it in blue resin/plastic? Also is the hilt being done in blender, cause that'd look awsome as well from there.

I plan to make the hilt in Blender too. Yes, I think it will look great. And I'll just have them print the piece, and then I'll make the copies out of clear blue resin.

If I do this right, I should be able to make the blade just plug in to the hilt, and then you can interchange the blade with the swoosh blade. This is all assuming I can make everything so that they can print it out in the first place.

Also, I have been unable to come up with a decent Demon Hammer for the Heresy Investigator, I might try that with blender too.

Some tips from a slightly more experience Blenderer. There's a function called 'set smooth' in one of the panels- in older versions, it's in the default leftmost panel at the bottom- I'm not certain about newer versions (use a Wiki if you need to, but it should be fairly obvious- you might need to be in Object mode for it to work, though). That'll get rid of all the little angles on the round parts- there's an option to ignore angles greater than a certain amount, which should let you keep the crisp edges of the boxy parts.

Also, the toggle is great, but I'd suggest making sure both the spur gear and the bevel gear have another gear of a similar type to mesh with- no point in having them out there when they're not actually doing anything.

My opinion of Steampunk is that it is the antithesis of efficient design. That shotgun is going to be a brass-banded cast iron with solid wood handle / stock. Give a new meaning to the phrase "Heavy Weapon".

Yeah, it would be heave, but for a shotgun, that is good, it reduces recoil.

But here we are trying to make Sci-Fi stuff fit into the real world again, and that is just a headache waiting to happen.

I have spent the better part of the morning trying to upload the shotgun to Shapeways, but I am having a bugger of a time getting the units right If anyone can help, please, I need it.

And I thought that video was funny! I try to make these things look like they could work, not just throwing gears on it, but I am not a mechanical engineer, so most of it is best guess.

I have seen the insides of rifles, shotguns and pistols, but I have no idea how most of works.

I don't understand where that opinion is formed from Skalk, you've got it all wrong IMHO.

Even a shotty made like that would be say 12-15 pounds at most, and I was holding a 22lbs M-60 like a rifle, no big deal.

I figured out the scaling problem with Blender. I was thinking a CM was 1/10th of a Meter, not 1/100th of a Meter. Stupid Metic System.

So, I ordered 10 of the shotguns....and 2 of the Machine Guns....

Did I forget to mention the machine guns?

The first Shotgun I did, I thought it would look better if I made it bigger, and turned it into a machine gun, like this.

I've always wondered what things would look like that I've made in 3D in reality.. I could get the D&D mini of my wife and myself made!!!

I officially retract any negative remarks I may have ever said about 3D printed stuff. It's still not sculpting, but it is a form of art.

Depending on how you do it it can be very simmilar to sculpting. Maybe even harder.

BUT. I think that they both have there place and there hardships and advantages.
