I hope Anathemas is better than Invocations. I didn't really enjoy much from it. The Oubliette was decent, probably the best Warhammer Horror novel I've read.

I finished The Regents Shadow last night. It’s been a while since I read the Emperors Legion, but I this one was even better than I remember that one being, and I know I loved that when I read it. Really good 40k politics.

The Oubliette was predictable in the end, won me a nice bet to boot! But it was a decent enough read.

As for Anathemas, I hope we don't get more Valgaast (or however it is spelled) stuff shoehorned in there, stop making it a thing BL.

Going to start on Regent's Shadow tonight, been re-reading the first book in the days leading up to the weekender, I've got high hopes for this one as I quite liked it, especially as a counterpart to the Vaults of Terra series running alongside it.

Is Valgaast the place in House of Night and Chain? That was a terrible book, and all the accompanying stories in Invocations were just garbage. I would also like to see the back of it.

I finished Knights of Macragge last night, which I quite enjoyed. It started very well and had a bit of a rough patch partway through, but it’s decent. Undecided on part 2 of Carrion Throne or Valdor next.

Yeah, didn't like Night and Chain either, not sure why they keep dropping references and mentions to Valgaast in most 40k horror books, but it's something I could do without. I much more liked the subtle reference to the flects from Ravenor in Oubliette.

Could do with another Warhammer Horror audio drama as well.

I actually enjoyed it, though it was the audiobook version. I tend to like my horror that way, as its more obvious when things are getting tense and such.

I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much as a regular book, to be fair.

Anyone know what the subject of the ADB story is? (More Night Lords please).

We'll find out soon enough eh.

So, Grimdark Dredd? I can dig it.

That they're focusing in on a single Hive World for all the stories(announced so far anyway) is interesting - with luck, it will have nothing to do with the 40K metaplot at all and I'll have a regular flow of novels to buy. Not usually much for audio dramas myself, but Baggit & Clodde sound like a potentially fun duo, I might have a crack at that one.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

in regards to warhammer crime, i don't understand why they don't just tie that into necromunda, instead of creating an entirely new world

I see your point, as Necromunda is a known quantity and a beloved setting, but on the other hand, they have a new canvas to paint a picture on with a new world. Tons of more options.

Necromunda has a very particular approach to law enforcement and societal morality. So much that would be considered traditional crime is considered just the normal ebb and flow of life in necromunda. The complexity of it all would make a series on crime very complicated. The relaxed attitude to gang war is precisely why the gang setting works well and a crime/investigative setting wouldn’t.
Anyway the imperium is massive, why wouldn’t you take the opportunity of a new series to explore the unknown?

Necromunda has tiers, but a lot of the crime within it would end up being gang related. It would start out basically slaving almost every story to the various gangs and that also means gang warfare most times.

So whilst it could certainly work, it would hobble the new idea a little. Rather than a new "Crime" IP it would be closer to just a twist on existing Necromunda stories.

So yeah I think moving to another world with a different set of values and policing and population really opens it up for the authors to craft a world that works for them

Yeah necromunda is just gang stuff. Hopefully crime will open up some new areas, filling the gap between, gang warfare, and inquisitorially investigated cult/xenos/daemon stuff.

A few months ago, when we announced Graham McNeill’s Siege of Terra novella Sons of the Selenar, we hinted that it was just the first in a series of such novellas that would be released between the eight novels that comprise the main story. Now, we can announce the second…

ury of Magnus, also by Graham McNeill, will delve into the shattered psyche of the Crimson King as he faces a very personal challenge on the Throneworld. Here’s Black Library’s Nick Kyme to tell us more.

Nick: Fury of Magnus takes place during the Siege of Terra itself and is principally concerned with the machinations of the primarch of the Thousand Sons, Magnus the Red. The events sit between Siege of Terra book four, Saturnine and book five, [REDACTED].

As the siege rages, Magnus has his own agenda – he is looking for the missing piece of his soul and believes that it’s on Terra, inside the Palace. It’s a personal story, focused on Magnus and the Thousand Sons, as well as a cadre of Space Wolves and Salamanders who have appeared as major characters in previous Horus Heresy novels.

It’s very much a story of Magnus figuring out, once and for all, whose side he is on. It’s his last chance to turn back and embrace the Emperor again.

This is a book of huge sweeping spectacle, but also more intimate moments. The emotional resonance Graham has managed to incorporate in the novel between the major characters is deep and strikes a powerful chord.

Thanks, Nick!
Like the rest of the Siege of Terra series, Fury of Magnus will be available first as a limited edition hardback. As with all the limited editions from the series, it will include character busts, illustrations and an extended afterword by the author which delves into the themes and writing of the novella. You’ll be able to pre-order this exclusively from the Games Workshop webstore on Saturday 22nd August. It’ll sell out fast, so set yourself a reminder now… Hardback, eBook and MP3 audiobook editions will follow in November.

If you want to read some Siege of Terra right now, you can order the first three novels in the series – The Solar War, The Lost and the Damned and The First Wall – right now. Get reading today to be ready for Fury of Magnus when it hits shelves later in the year.

well.. bit...uh huh about yet another limited edition -- but cannot really moan about the length of the heads up concerning it -- who knows might even have been able to start on the actual siege series if the MMPB of the origianl series are done by then,

At least these are non-essential to the main eight books, hopefully. Curious to see if this will have the usual messing about with timelines and whatnot.

Did preorder the last two legacy format novels, so later this year I'll at least have the entire Horus Heresy saga in my grasp, ignoring the eshorts, quick reads and audio dramas that are also out there.

This just makes me wonder: how was there never a 90’s movie called “Furious Magnum”? Julie Strain and Bruce Penhall were surely available.

I would imagine we will end up with two anthologies as part of the series then, perhaps released between books 7 and 8. There's a bunch of leftover Horus Heresy stuff too so possibly even another book in the old series, or a prequel one. Can't imagine they're stop the "everything compiled eventually" approach at this point.

Five years ago I would have jumped on this. If there were no manipulative time pressure, I’d put it at the top of the Christmas list. But this release? Screw it. GW just gave me another reason to walk away from their products.
