Kids and just adult gamers getting sucked into life's diversions makes getting together for a game a bit of a puzzle.
We have a bit of a rules exploiter in our group so every new rules change he likes to showcase how broken the new rule is. It can be scary to behold.

Had to say lack of interest. There are a load of games I'd like to try, or play more of, but the local scene is nothing but 40K over and over again.

The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.” |

I think the big thing holding me back apart from money, is a lack of motivation, when ever I try to sit down and paint I usually do one coat of paint before I give up and play video games.
It's not that i don't like painting, it's just my friends are never around to have a game with so there isn't much of a rush.

Money.
I'm looking through the FoW products and a single tank costs roughly £8. You usually need 4 tanks for a full combat platoon and that will cost £36. Now, there's 5 combat platoons in my list so that's over £200 just for about 1/4th of my list if I wanted a full list.
I suppose I'm lucky that there's loads of dirt cheap Sherman tanks floating around Ebay at the moment though.
Then it's Warhammer 40K! I struggle to find a justification to some of the prices.
Ebay is a gift from God when it comes down to these things.

My own speed and insistence on having everything fully painted and based. I just seem to take a while to get minis fully done, so my army isn't growing all that quickly. I don't mind too much, though. A squad of fully completed minis really does look great, and an unpainted mini just looks, well, incomplete.

Its mostly a Lack of money and people. My FLGS isnt warhammer specific, and they mostly play fantasy, so you cant just walk in and start up a game, and the leagues rotate between games (Currently its free game night, so I'll pop in and see if any one wants to play every Tuesday)

Completely 100% location for me. I'm currently going to college out of state (well, just graduated and have a week to sit around my room before I walk now) and don't have a car here. The combination of needing to ship my army stuff across the country every time I go back home on vacation and having no way of reaching my LGS has kept me largely out of the hobby except over Christmas when I end up back home long enough for it to count.
No idea how things will work out for me in the next couple years. I plan on spending a lot more time (and money now I'll have a real income) buying little plastic army men.

Theres not many people around to actually play against so im stuck mainly collecting without gaming and thats never as fun so you don't have as much drive to paint up your whole army.
