The obvious solution is to simply raise the prices of printed products as a shill for the e-products. And unlike discouraging subscription to WD, there's at least an apparent method to this madness. Maybe I should apply for a job at GW home office? Nope, still too sane.

Solution? Don't buy directly from BL, that's what I do. Only downside to this is that those mega expensive limited run novels are out of your reach.

You can generally get some pretty good deals from Play.com., if you either pre-order or get something that is 6 months old +, otherwise it's not really that much of a saving on the RRP.

Wha?
Are you guys going on a different site to me? I regularly get BL books from Amazon at about 40% off RRP. Not old stuff either, I log in every few months and pre order all the new stuff that's been added since the last time that I want to read. I think I paid just over a fiver for Know No Fear, got a gold edition print and it arrived a few days before it was officially supposed to.
I am happy to pay a premium if I can see a benefit, but the only thing I buy from BL direct is Hammer and Bolter, and the ltd edition HH novellas (and will continue to do so). You cannot simply charge a higher price than the competition with no justification for doing so, and that is essentially what BL (and to an extent, the whole organisation) do.

So, judging by that and the flag next to your name, yes, we are on different sites!
I'm now reading "Know No Fear" and loving it!
The "adamantium balls" comment that was a bit off-putting to Manchu is not nearly as egregious as I was afraid it was going to be especially given who was "thinking" it at that time in the story.
So far, so good.

Alpharius - Bookdepository .com or .co.uk always has discounts on BL stuff. They get their gear from GW direct and BL - which is why you will often find 2 prices and 2 listings on their site for the same book. But it is so much cheaper than buying in the store (in Aus anyway) - I've been getting books for 1/3 or so of the cover price here. Plus they give a 25% discount usually for preorders.

Well, chalk that up to another mystery around GW pricing and where around the globe it get's sold, even if GW don't technically have a say in this (or do they...?)
As for KNF, have enjoyed it, but not been blown away, am in the final few pages and part of me still seems to be waiting for it to get going. Perhaps I made the fatal mistake of allowing my expectations to get built up, many on here were raving, and even Abnett himself seemed pretty pleased with it based on his Twittering, so perhaps I was simply expecting too much. Then again, I really liked Deliverance Lost, so perhaps I'm just weird..
Or perhaps anything featuring Ultras is inherantly pants....

Anything Ultramarines Pre-Heresy/Heresy/Scourging is most definitely not pants.
And really, given how they "should" be portrayed, they really should be held in higher regard then they are.
Still, that's neither here nor there, and I cannot wait for "The Primarchs" to be released here in the States... a good month or so after the UK, I think!

Salamanders most likely.
Nick Kyme writes it & that has to be a Salamander helmet (a Firedrake's, or maybe even Vulkan's).
Alpha Legion didn't wear dark green armour (but they could also be involved in the story of course). Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Copied from Nick Kyme's (feb 28) blog...
Scorched Earth is next up. This is a Horus Heresy novella that won’t be limited edition but will be a forerunner to a later novel I have in the works. It’s set in the aftermath of Isstvan V and features two Salamander characters searching for Vulkan’s body amongst the ruins and devastation. Expect a cameo from one of the Iron Hands in ‘Feat of Iron’ too… Oh, and the cover by Neil Roberts is absolutely stunning. Very moody and something rather different for the Horus Heresy, not really seen before.
So there we have it.

Eh. Whilst I'll probably still get it (on account of it being HH and not limited edition), I'm not really a fan of Kyme's writing style and I don't really care for the Sallies, whilst the description of them "searching for Vulkan’s body amongst the ruins and devastation" doesn't suggest to me that they'll find him, so it may not exactly be a revelatory story either...

FREE HORUS HERESY
Who wants some free Horus Heresy action?
Yeah, we thought you’d like that, so as part of Black Library’s fifteenth birthday celebrations, we’re giving you a 1,000 word preview of ‘The Crimson Fist’ by John French, handily formatted as an eBook. ‘The Crimson Fist’ is one of the novellas from the upcoming Shadows of Treachery anthology, and tells the story of Rogal Dorn’s fleet and the fate that awaited them in the Phall system, at the hands of the Iron Warriors. This story tells of the genesis of the centuries-long hatred between the Imperial Fists and the Iron Warriors and also explores the background of Sigismund, the first Emperor’s Champion.
If you’ve not read an eBook before, try it out; we think you’ll like it. All you need to do is click here and the eBook will download straight away. It will work with any eBook reader on a tablet, phone, or computer – easy.
If you use a Kindle, download this file.
If you liked the extract and want to see how the story concludes, set a reminder for Shadows of Treachery now and we’ll send you an email when it goes on sale.

i was just about to recommend Powells books...
when i lived in Portland that was where i got all my BL books...
usually used are about $5 for a softback and $17 for a hardback...
always in great condition...
anyone who comes here to Sayulita from Portland gets sent on a Powells run for me...
if friends are coming from anywhere but Portland, i have a package sent to their house...
i believe a $25 purchase gets free shipping...
i just had a friend bring me a used copy of the Rogue Trader rulebook, not a scratch on it, for $40...
now i'm just waiting for a friend coming in June...
by then there should be a copy of the Black Crusade core book for $20 off as well ...
Powellls rocks!!!
cheers

The Black Library Expo
October 6 & 7
Chestermere, Alberta
FULL LINEUP FOR THE EXPO:
Dan Abnett
Aaron Dembski-Bowden
Graham McNeill
Nick Kyme
James Swallow
Chris Wraight
Andy Smillie
Gav Thorpe
Tickets will go on presale Saturday 31st March at Chestermere Public Library from 10am. They are only available to those people holding an active Chestermere Public Library card, or an active membership card for any other Marigold system member library (full list here). We will then release them for general sale the following week.
Tickets are limited to five per person. It is awesome that so many of you want to buy more than that, but we think it's fairer to limit numbers.
Tickets cost $20, which buys you one admission for either saturday or sunday - not to both. Think of it like a tour; it's the exact same gig both days, and by doing it this way you've got shorter line ups for signings and more interaction on the Q&A sessions - although if you want to buy a ticket for both shows then we're cool with that too.
We're working with Black Library to finalise the seminar programs and put the finishing touches to the Expo, but if there is anything you desperately want to see happen ("How to write for Black Library", "Horus Heresy Discussion Panel", "opportunity to ask Dan how he sleeps at night after what he did to Bragg", etc) then drop me an email at BlackLibraryExpo@ChestermerePublicLibrary.com and I'll do my best to make it happen. In fact, drop me an email if you want to see a cosplay contest, demo gaming, or anything else Warhammer or 40k related as part of the event.
That's a pretty strong line up of talent their, well worth popping along if you can IMO.

Oh and if Mr Abnett is in town go see him for sure, he's lovely, he signed my copy of Alpharius with Happy Birthday (was released on my birthday and he was in my local waterstones for a signing) and congratulated me
