Do we count midnight in Greenwich Mean Time, right? Can midnight locally count? I may not make otherwise . . .

Yeah, there's normally a bit of give as Para has to collate the images anyway.

Still not sure what I should have done for the lenses I went with metallics, but not convinced it was the right choice.

Tried a cheetah pattern on the fur waistcoat (after e-painting the bit I missed that made it a waistcoat) but that was aborted early on, just wasn't working at all. Without any pattern there I feel I should have added something to the robes - maybe checks along the bottom edge. Happy with it though, and another one that is actually finished.

My olde Harlies. Tried to make them a bit more steampunk space elf pirates rather than magic space elf clowns, also I'm too lazy/fidgety to try the original colour schemes.

Sadly, this is going to be yet another year without finishing something each month, as I've fallen impossibly behind. Had kind of a "crisis of faith" in the middle of the month during which I seriously considered quitting Warhammer altogether (spoiler alert: I'm not quitting), and during that time I didn't paint anything at all. Hoping to get back on the horse for next month, and I do look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with, as always!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

After going back and forth on a few different entries, I'm throwing in this one at the last minute. It's a very new mini comparatively ( I don't really have anything properly oldschool, aside from some LotR bits which I guess are getting on for 20 these days) but as an ancient Demon Lord with a long history in D&D drawn from even older real-world roots incorporated into his mythology, I guess he fits enough?

Full disclosure, I'm mainly just entering him because I'm incredibly pleased with the paintjob, so maybe I'm clutching at straws to get him to fit the theme, but hopefully you agree it's at least tangentially suitable.

Yup, not even close to finishing this month. Disappointed in myself and my time management skills... ^.^'

I think it's going to look pretty good when it's finished, but that probably won't be for another week, so way too late. Never mind, eh?

Good luck to everyone this month, there are some stonking entries so far!

EDIT:

@Jamie Shred, @MobileSuitRandom, love those harlies!

@Paradigm, that thing looks awesome! I'd have no problem with it fitting the theme.

Just got mine done in time. I think this model dates to 1987 (at least the earliest catalogue entry I found) though would have bought him later than that.

I can see the nostalgia theme is very popular but myself I'm not feeling it. Had to dig deep to find these old slayer. I reckon they are over 20 years old.
I struggled to paint them, got spoiled with all the amazing minis of modern era.

Well, here they are...giant slayers with a bit of war paint and tattoos.

Hi All

Sorry I've not been around much this month (and I haven't done the league table yet, I can't face more spreadsheets with working from home). I've been finding it very hard juggling work and childcare during the lockdown so my days are very long and I'm knacker at the end of the day. Hopefully that will change soon.

I gave myself a sub challenge to this challenge and that was to paint 1 of my many many old miniatures in a day (today in fact) in the style of when it was first released with the original paints.

I hope you enjoy the Goblin Green base

I will take some better pics if I can tomorrow.

P.S. Holy cow Modock they look awesome. Possibly the best I have ever seen on those models.

Wow, there's some amazing stuff in here this month. This is going to be a fun one to vote for. I'm going to be giving out a lot of votes this time!

For my entry, I painted some original Harlequins. My proof had five models, but I only painted three. I was aiming to recreate the paint jobs that I saw when I was first getting into the hobby in the late 80s, and which were hands down my favorite thing about the whole hobby. I still think they might be my favorite paintjobs I've seen. There are others that are objectively better, but none that give me such a proustian rush. I used to marvel at these and think I'd never be able to do that. I was right, but I got as close as I could!

These are the specific models I was recreating -

And these are my attempts -

I might do a whole army of the modern Harlequin models in these old paint schemes. It would take years to complete, obviously, but it'd be fun.

By the way, this is the first time I'm posting from my new PC, which runs at a different desktop resolution from my old PC, and I'm still getting used to it. I'm not sure how these photos will look - if they look too big, let me know and I'll see if I can do anything about it.

Some thoughts on the use of contrast:
1, contrast needs thinning for some colours, which sort of defeats the point, but it still beats painting regular yellow
2, for simple or modern plastic models, contrast is great. For highly detailed metal models such as a SoB cannonness, just paint it normally.
3, remember which kind of purple you originally used so you don't spend two hours layering up very thin coats of a light purple to try and make it dark when you can just use two thin coats of dark purple.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

My Dwarf Slayer:

First time trying out skin colored contrast paint. Normally not that much into dwarves, but I enjoyed painting him more and more the longer I worked on him. One thing I learned: dry brushing is pretty difficult on such small models.....
And curse you Modock, your dwarves make mine look like it's painted in kindergarten!
