Oh yeah! Great army shot, the yellow works well on all of the minis and vehicles. Glad to hear the move went well, hopefully the unpacking doesn’t take forever. Good work getting the hobby box unpacked.

I can't remember if I've posted this already, but I love the tracked conversions of the vehicles.

Thanks Gobert! We are getting there, bit of a faff on with a few things (ordered a dishwasher and had to fit that in the cabinet and it was a bloody nightmare thanks to how the previous owners had mucked about) but most of the vital stuff is out of boxes and just need a permanent hobby space!

Thanks Boringstuff! I enjoyed putting together the Skorpio Disintegrator but the Dunertreader APC was a nightmare

So here's my first painted Serberys Kettenkrad. Painted it up over the weekend. Took a little while to pin down the colours but I'm glad it worked out in the end. Working on a little palette cleanser next then right back to the admech.

Cheers for now!

Heya folks.

I gots me some updates.

I fancied a little palate cleanser so I decided to paint up some of my Indomitus marines.

This is a continuation of my homebrew chapter: The Knights of Fey.

I've not considered much background for the Knights of Fey. I'm going for an early medieval- Saxon vibe to them, their homeworld being a backward and rather esoteric feudal world. I'd like them to be Librarian heavy, hopefully will expand them in time with one of the battleforces. It took me a while to think up what to do with the base, but I like the end result. When I was working as an archaeologist, I was working on a Saxon cemetery and the surrounding soil was this wonderfully red, iron rich natural.

In other news, my Squat box arrived today! The kit is absolutely fantastic, the size is spot on, they're stout and short and very dwarfy. I'm really excited for the Votanni on the horizon.

Just a quick conversion, giving him an overflowing tankard from the old Dwarf warriors kit from WHFB.

More Squats on the horizon, I've got some fun ideas planned.

Cheers for now!

Hey folks,

Latest little update, more Indomitus marines. I gotta say I love painting Space Marines, it's so easy in comparison

I'm going to try and whip through the rest.

Cheers for now!

Thanks CB, all the best!

Another update plucked fresh off the tree.

I decided to update the blog title since this is no longer admech only (and hasn't been for a while).

First up my primaris lieutenant Frithuwald.

I'm able to paint space marines so quickly I actually have time to do multiple things at once

So here's the next four Squats from the Byker Hill Lads gang, led by Charter Master Radgie Jonnssen.

They're fresh oot the pit and ready to kick arse.

That's all for now, once I've built all the Squats I'm going to try a test scheme. I'm thinking green armour with cream underneath.

Cheers for now.

That admech leader. Simply awesome.

Also i don't understand how people can paint gold this well, even on SM.
But then again i can't paint

Nice squat models, certainly looking better than league of meh.

Thanks Not Online! I promise the gold is dead easy because my painting skills are naff. It's retributor bronze or something similar and then a brown wash (in this case I've found the GW earth one far superior to my old army painter wash) and then in some of the crevasses I do a bit of black wash. Finally for highlighting I quickly drybrush a mix of the gold and silver and call it at that.

Dysartes wrote:You didn't fancy them being the Byker Grove Lads, Olthannon?

I've been asked this a lot and so clearly the folk song is not as famous as I thought, probably not outside the North East these days. So Byker Hill was a colliery in the east end of Newcastle during the 19th century and there's a famous song called Byker Hill which is what the name of the gang is based on. Byker Grove is set in the same area! It's also the basis of Dave Van Ronk's song Luang Prabang.

That's my personal favourite rendition, although I'd wager the Martin Carthy version is probably the most heard version.

That's the whole gang built, I'm really looking forward to painting them. Think I've got the colour scheme ready to rumble.

Cheers for now!

Just a quick update for the test scheme for the Byker Hill Lads. Although they can't be seen in the photo, the cloth is a cream colour.

EDIT: I should say that although this seems to like quite teal in this photo, the base colour is dark angels green!

Originally I had planned a dull grey for the base, but I thought that looked too dark so I went for the same style as my admech. There's plenty of sulphur on Necromunda after all

I'm actually canny pleased with how this turned out, let me know if you have any pointers/ C&C. I hope to get the whole gang painted up by this week.

Do you use any auto filter on your photos that might change the color?

So! I've been dreadful at doing much painting beyond getting the basecoats down on the Squats. Little update here which is a bit was a touch unplanned. Couldn't get an ounce of sleep last night. The other day a mate of mine were having a chat and decided to organise a game of 6th edition fantasy. So as I was coming up with a 500 point list I decided to touch up my High Elves and take a photo.

So here's the Border Patrol of Tor Velen, led by the esteemed Olthannon.

A little difficult to fit them all in the light box, but Border Patrol is a thankfully low model count

This will be my first game of Warhammer in well over a decade and I'm proper excited.

Next update, I promise Squats!

Cheers for now.

Thanks Gobert! Yeah bit of a mishmash in that unit. I have a lot of the new 6th edition spearmen but only those 4 of the old. My other unit of spears have the burgundy shields, rather than white, to differentiate them. Most of my archers are the old plastic armoured ones. I can't wait for the upcoming border patrol, this will be our first game of Warhammer in nearly 15 years!

The first half of the Byker Hill lads are ready to rock and roll. A couple of juves (or wee lads in this case) plus a pair of tougher pitmen.

The rest are yet to come babe and won't that be fine?

I’m envious of the Warhammer Fantasy game, I hope it lives up to the nostalgia expectations. Playing with painted armies will be awesome!

I really need to play up more of the Byker Grove influence than the Byker Hill song. Clearly the song is not popular outside the NE

Cheers Guardling, you don't have long to wait!

So that's the Byker Hill gang all done, very pleased with the result. I like the minis a lot, I might buy the big looking bugger but the fact it is FW and resin is a bit of a pain. The yellow on Radgie Johnson's helmet is using the new Imperial Fist contrast colour, which turned out canny nice. I'm looking forward to trying that out on my admech. This is my first time using contrast colours, needed a couple of goes to understand how the paint medium works.

Not sure what I'm going to work on next, might be High Elves, might be Marines, might be admech...?

Just have to cover my eyes and point wildly.

Cheers for now!

Hey there Admech fans get ready for a little update.

+++ Emerging out the howling winds, Skitarii cohort XIV advanced on the enemy. The buzzing crack of radium carbines firing into the ranks of the ancient dead. Alpha Haidranus ducked behind a gour, as crackling energy immolated two vanguard beside him. He cursed a stream of archaic binharic code as several large spider like constructs leapt into the ranks of the cohort. His power maul crackling, he emerged from cover and dove into combat.+++

I had my first ever game of 9th edition (and first ever game of 40k since 3rd edition) against some Necrons and I won! Admittedly it was a learner game at my local store but even still

Buoyed by that, I found some motivation to finish painting the last few bits and bobs of my admech. I also tidied up the other vanguard as my painting has improved since I first started.

Now I'm doing the same with the rangers. Then the Serberys Kettenkrads and a few others to go.

Cheers for now!
