I made some more progress on the Colonial Marines tonight and some of the other characters got some love. Basically just blocked out their skin and other light coloured areas with bleached bone before adding contrast skin tones

Here’s a close to better see the camo

Thanks for looking

Neat camo on the marines!
Also looking forward to seeing how those Kill Team floor tiles come out

Thanks Guardling, the camo turned out better than I expected which is an unexpected surprise. I’ve managed to sneak in 30mins here and there and got the rusty under layers done on the Kill Team scenery. But now I have colour choices to make and figured dakka could help:

Here’s the bare wall;

I like how it looks but the silver dry brush makes the layer lines really prominent. I’m thinking the frames will stay this colour and bits of the pillars too along with any grills or vents etc

Next is light grey

Both are strong contenders for corridor walls and floors respectively
Pale Yellow

Is a bit too patchy I think and I don’t fancy 2 coats
Blue

Has good coverage and could be a contender
Pale green

I like the colour, but it could be a it much for corridors.

The guy that designed the stls has each compartment painted differently so that’s an option but I’m unlikely to set it up as lots of individual compartments. I think the greys could be good for floors and most walls, but beyond that I’m not sure. I have some habitation areas that will get sinks and showers, maybe they’d be good in light green? There’s a gun compartment that could be quite cool in red? Some escape hatch floor tiles in white and red? There’s almost too many choices! What say you dakkadakka?

Dark grey or blue look the best to me.

I like the grey's, but have you tried sponging silver? It could diminish the effect of making the layer lines stand out and look cool where the underpainting shows through. You could do a few passes, light and dark, really get some depth going. Also, the colonial Marines look rad.

I'd say the light grey has the best background feel
Although if it was me and I wanted a bright colour on one of those, I'd do a layer of grey to help with coverage and leave some exposed to give the appearance of the Primer being exposed by wear and tear...

Thanks all, grey seems the most popular, so that’s what I’ve gone with. I’ve done a bit on the floor tiles and decided to go with dark grey for trim and I’ll do light grey for panels. I might need to do a bit of highlighting now as it’s a bit flat. My other thought is to add lots of stains with some old paint water based wash. Probably a few random colour stains and of course some Blood For The Blood God here and there I like the silver idea so might do some scratches/scuffs and probably a few bits of primer showing through

Cheers all!

I get why everyone is saying the light grey but that pale green looks excellent. Great work on the Colonial Marines and floor tiles.

Thanks Cap plenty more to do, but it’s good easy going painting so far. Perfect for midweek quick sessions
Not Online!!! wrote:Aye, this will look great!

Cheers, I hope so, I have a few other ideas too

No more progress on the Harbinger, but the Colonial Marines got hit with a few paint sticks. It’s been really fun doing their details tonight, searching the internet to check what colour things could be. Annoyingly I now realise that my main [url=https://propstoreauction.com/lot-details/index/catalog/319/lot/88715]reference[\url]doesn’t match every one else’s camo pattern. Still I’m not about to redo it as I think they look pretty cool. The Biggest changes have been getting colour on straps and weapons, but the biggest difference was the athonian camoshade. Whilst it looks good and brought all of the shades together it was all of the extra details it revealed. Helped me spot quite a few areas for improvement! Here’s where they are now;

There’s a few details left to do, like a few patches, base rims and names (need to see if I can find a match for the pale blue on the ALIENS logo). I also did a good bit on the Ripleys, Newts, Bishops, Burke and Gorman. They have a little more to do, but will hopefully complete next session too. I kind of forgot about Power Loader Ripley, so she’ll have to be done when I do the power loader itself.

I’m away this week with work, so might start something else, probably block in some Void Panthers.

Thanks for looking

Great figures- incredibly recognizable from the movie!

The camouflage pattern you've done is terrific.

Lovely work as usual gobert. The grey looks good though I am partial to the green myself too! Now that you mention it though Nan had an avocado bathroom growing up and I always thought it was fancy

Love the way the marines are coming along. Athonian Camoshade is one of my favourite paints for a reason.

Won't be sad to see more Void Panthers on the horizon!

Eee god that takes me back. You know there's something strangely 40k about a massive battleship flying through space having something as vile as an avocado bathroom

Fantastic stuff on the Marines. You are definitely out here building better worlds (in miniature)

Meer_Cat wrote:Great figures- incredibly recognizable from the movie!

Yeah, they’re pretty cool, I think the Ripleys are the closest facially. As for the camo, I poured over the pics of Frosts uniform and bought a German camo set that had most of the colours, then stippled in what looked like the print order. It was good fun!
youwashock wrote:All the quotes playing in my head. They look super cool, gobert!

I know, it’s a properly quotable movie, and I love that they named the game and expansions using them too!

I was worried, but It was actually quite fun and straightforward, just picked the order of laying colours and the rough patterns and went to town stippling

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only Avocado Bathroom suites . I also got a few Waylan-Yutani crates to paint up too

Thanks Not Online!

As predicted I got the Marines and the other humanoids finished last night. The bases were the main thing left to do, getting a black rim followed by a Hoeth Blue drybrush and a white over brush before being finished with a bit of a tidy up of the black. Other notable additions was a wash of white-screaming skull mix for Broken Bishop (that’s his name in the game ) and here they are;

Here’s the non-Marines

And the Marines

All in a fun project. So much so I’ve also started building the latest expansion and the token set plus the 3d printer is part way through an stl for the Bugstomper APC. Sadly the printer has broken, so I’m hoping a replacement stepper motor I bought fits and works so I can finish it (including some LEDs and magnets to lift the roof and interior bits).

I also did some more work on the Harbinger stuff, just a quick pic

Thanks for looking

Do it! I’ve watched it a couple of times whilst painting them! It’s still a stone cold classic!

A bit later than planned as I’ve been applying for a new job. I was chuffed to get through the first sift, but didn’t get invited to interview. There should be another one coming up in about a year that I should be a better fit for, but we’ll see. I’ve done a bit more on the Harbinger, but first, here’s some pics of the Bishop minis

I love how they also give you a post alien attack Bishop, and even more that they called him Broken Bishop!

I’m quite pleased how the robo-guts turned out, a decent replica of the sickly fluid of the movie.

Pics of the Harbinger terrain inbound later in the week with any luck

Nah, he’s a robot, he’ll walk it off!

I did a few bits on the Harbinger of Damnation terrain. Having blocked out the colours on everything

And added a few nasty stains to the bathroom tiles. I got a bit of sponge and mixed up some reddish brown and went to town

Next will be to paint some details like signs and skulls. Then I’ll add a few more stains and maybe some rusty streaks. I’ll then finish up with a bit of dry brushes OSL I bought some flouro paint recently so I might try my hand with those
