You agree to play a game of some kind (Warmachine, 40k, Fantasy, whatever) when you're
faced with an opponent who has some army you'd love to try to make: rules, paint, whatever.
You covet your opponent's army.
And then you want to buy/build one.
augh.

Not that specific problem since I don't have too many opponents, but nearly every time I hop onto the Modelling or P&M Blog forums I wants a new army.

I have been there a few times. I have built a Dark Eldar and a Tyranid army because I was so impressed with the army after facing it. I have since sold both armies.
The lesson I learned was; just because it is powerful and kicked my but, does not mean that I will enjoy playing it.

I have to say that as a Khador player, I've been extremely envious of my opponents arc nodes and "far away assassination attempts".

Not so much - once you have critical mass of stuff, and sufficient number of unbuilt armies, the idea of starting yet *another* army becomes less attractive...
My project plate is full, and fully-backed up with future work.
So no, I'm not going to contemplate a new army to add to the pile.

My litmus test was to paint a unit. If I don't get past the unit, then all is well.
If I DO paint a unit, then suddenly I have to buy the next one...

A unit like 5 termis sounds good but Im burried cleaning 32 gaunts per unit... the idea of finish them and paint its just a mirage my goal dont go much further than cleaning 6 scyting talons per day...
With that said i dont even have time to covet

Once. I had a dwarf fantasy army, and played against wood elves (three different times, three different opponents, three different approaches)
Each time, I was like, "wow, there is a movement phase in fantasy, and my dwarves are missing out on it."

Every now and then I want a drop podding and teleporting marine army.
But then I headbutt the wall as penance and paint more orks.

My recent obsession with doing a Menoth army was based on a friend's Kreoss force.
I'm mostly over it.
I think.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

I tend to be driven more by 'I like your force...but I have all these cool ideas to make it mine!'
Like why I am now working on Savage Orcs. Saw Gummers converted Wyvern (body from the plastic Dragon) and knew I could do it. Savage Orcs always appealed in the fluff, so I bit the bullett.
I now have a Savage Orc Warboss strapped to the underside of his Wyvern as it takes flight, 20 Boyz painted, and more to go!
