Been Around the Block

This is my first squad for my new Sci-fi skirmish game slated for 2010-2011 release.
My Question is should I even continue or call it quits. Am thinking of doing a special pre release of 100 castings to see if Interest is even there and cover cost of next squad greens.
The robots are multi piece to maximize pose options but are a bit tricky to build, release model might have a 1 piece lower body comes with 5 different weapons.
Right now I have the bottom guys being sculpted.

Do you have a business plan? What's your budget? What's the game about (both background-wise, and what the structure of the game is). Have you considered contacting Warlord Games (I think that's the name) for making plastic molds?

Depending on the price, I would definitely be interested in those infantry figures!

And, what's the scale? I'd like to get my hands on those infantry in the front as well, provided they are around the 28mm heroic scale.

I like them. I'd most likely purchase a special run of pre-release, partly cause I'd fear them never being re-released(I love those bots) and partly cause I'm a whore for special releases. Perhaps also doing a special model or variant model that would only be available to the pre-release sets(assuming normal runs later, which I hope for)?

How much were you planning to sell the minis for?

I'd definitely buy quite a few, especially of the 'big guys' in the back row.

More details please!

It doesn't "grab" me, but that is not to say it is technically bad... it's technically pretty good looking. Just nothing that makes me say "I want those."

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I agree that those are awesome. I would buy them if:

-The scale were compatible with 40K (not slightly too large, like all the Rackham stuff was) to allow both your game and that other game to be played with the same minis. I think a lot of gamers buy like this, and;

-Modeling and poseability are emphasized in the minis. I know you're a small operation, but having bitz and swappable/highly poseable minis appeals to the older gamer like may of us on this board. That may not also apply to your average mini gamer, tho, so YMMV and do your research.

Way to go for taking a chance to bring more cool things into the world, Micropanzer. At the very least your limited run will probably sell out.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

So you want us to offer advice on your brand new game based solely on how the miniatures look? Based on that alone I would tell you to "call it quits". The miniatures do look good though.

I'll wait until the game is released to pass judgement. That being said, they look great. The farthest my game concept has got is a few word documents. Where does one find artists, sculpters and such to get the ball rolling without having loads of money?

Give us some background on your game. System with which you determine successes and failures. What can of complexity does the rule set have? If you honestly want to start up a venture into marketing your game, selling it and distributing it you need to consider a few things. In no particular order

First would be a very simple rule set. Now a days, the simpler the rules the smaller that barrier is. It's hard for people to over come the rules barrier sometimes and it's the only reason they won't play other games. Example: "My new game uses a ton of d10s!" the player "Oh man... I don't have any of those, too much math too. Oh well, GL with the new game!".

Second would be the price barrier. Does each miniature cost 20$? This is easy to solve. The game, at first, must be based around small party like skirmishes. Otherwise people see a new game with a high cost barrier and say "I already put together 2000 points of orks! I don't think I can do that again".

Third, what's your hook? Is your game based off of a slightly advanced current timeline? Did America collapse dissolving into chaos and this game is the resulting conflict to fit a nation back together or start ones own? Or is this a different planet/universe/dimension? How many factions will there be at release two, three, five? Usually the more factions or sides to a game the more players can find something to like about a side. Maybe your hook isn't in the story at all, maybe it's in the way you play the game. You: "Hey I have this new game, wanna try?" Guy1: "Sure!" Guy2: "Me too!". You set everything up and after some moving they get into combat, you explain instead of dice they each have three cards. It's like rock, paper, scissors except certain units flip what they do well against certain pieces of equipment do the same and some units don't have the ability to use certain attack types. Like Unit X can't use scissors. It doesn't really matter what your hook is. What does matter is that hook is interesting and keeps the game fresh.

Edit: Also, sweet minis. I'd buy if I say a blister in my shop, just for painting fun.

I think the models look good. Just keep the rules basic and easy to follow, but fun to play. You don't need to go overboard with stats and 5000 different guns. It might also help if you use some standard stuff from other games, like all D6's, maybe if you want blast templates you can use the same size as GW's, that sort of thing.

Since you will probably be marketing toward folks who play other games but want something different to try you should try and package it in a way that's easy for people to get into. Maybe like the way Privateer does it, where you can buy a starter pack with a few models for a basic army and include basic instructions. Maybe plan for it to be small, fast and fun games instead of huge armies so people will have a minimal investment at first. If the game is fun and the models are good, people will get into it

On moon miranda.

They all look very cool, if the price was reasonable (I'm not expecting something drastically lower than GW prices, but something comparable to what GW & PP charge is what I'd expect probably) I'd consider possibly snagging some of those mini's.

Got any pics of them unpainted?

Im all for new projects and minis so go for it.

But I have to be upfront with you, the sculpts are ok but Im having a hard time figuring out what style they are into... the big ones look retro look, the infantary has weird things like glasses above helmet? and they dont look retro, more a mix with star wars helmets with fantasy body armor and they are very boring positioned and simplistic weapons overall... its a bit to weird for me and I dont feel much atracted to these.

Nice models, and this quote is telling--maybe you could do some cross-marketing with Bell of Lost Souls' Arbites' codex. Wouldn't hurt to ask.
