Very good. I don't play Orks, but a plastic Dread, Commander and Termies for that price? I then sold the Orks!

The set before was even better - two piece plastic Gaunts and plastic Spore Mines! Perfect. I got four sets of the 'Nid minis.

The assault on black reach box is less than a third the price of what its contents cost in separate boxes. So yeah, its worth it.

Yeah, I play neither orcs nor marines, but I love GMR's (Giant Metal Robots), and the set only cost a few bucks more than the straight rulebook, so I grabbed it for the Dred. The warboss is also cool.

I bought one AoBR set for the rulebook, sold the orks to a friend, and I now have a few marines to play with.

If it's not your army, get one and sell the sprues. If it is, get a bunch!

Not very cool if you play anything else that SM or orks.

Yeah, but it's a great way to pick up a new army on the cheap. And even if you're not going to play it, it's great trade stock.

The joy of the AoBR is that even if you only want the rules, SOMEBODY wants the minis. They are excellent trade/sell bait to get pieces for your army. Having templates and dice included are good as well.

Also a great starter set is the Battletech Starter Box. All the rules you need for quick play and move advanced play, universe book, and 24 plastic 'Mechs for $40. Great deal.

If I were to actually play SM or orks, I would pick up the relivant codex and another AoBR.

Too bad GW doesn't make similar sets for all the races.

I kinda wish that the battleforces were starter sets. Standardized points, HQ + Troops, mini codex (Just the stats for whats in the box) and the basic rules could go a long ways..

I think the AoBR box is a great deal. A buddy of mine and I are getting in to the game split two of 'em. $60 for well over $100 worth of figures... okay!

Yeah i am planning on buying some marines when i get back home and I was wondering if I could change my down payment for AoBR to something else then went, duh I can convert the termies to TH and shield and I get loads of others for free. So needless to say I'm sticking with the AoBR.

In building my marine army I bought 3 AOBR boxes and sold the orks for 20$ a pop. That got m cash enough for a predator and assorted other goodness. I then traded the extra 5 termies for some seargants, marines with guns, and whatever other odds and ends I needed. After that I bought a battleforce for 90. I ended up with roughly 2500 points for 250 dollars. Can't beat it. I now have an excellent base to build off of.

I personaly loved the AoBr box, after the smoke cleared I came away with 60 boyz,15 nobz (conversion fodder) and 3 warbosses, not to mention loads of dice, the mini rule book plus a bunch of red whippy sticks(to drum on my desk with).
All and all well worth the price.

I converted one of the Termies into a Deathwatch Terminator w/Heavy Flamer, and used the other Termies to finish off a 3rd squad of Terminators. Made far more sense than buying another boxed set.

- I don't like mono-pose Marines who stare straight ahead.
- I don't play greenskins.
- I dlon't want the small-print Rulebook without the Fluff.

So, I'm happy to pay more for the big Rulebook along with the minis that I want.

yeah, but can you stuff the hardback rulebook in your back pocket?

Battle For Skull Pass is fantastic value.

2 fair sized armies, both of which are completely game legal. As a start it's about as good as you can hope for, and with the addition of the relevant Batallion, you're pretty much at 1,500 points already. Bargainalicious!

As starter sets go, I think the latest batch are probably the best there have ever been. I wouldn't use most of the models in my army, because I'm not overly fond of mono-pose miniatures, but throw them in with other miniatures and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference at a glance.

Also: Deffkoptas. 'Nuff said.

I am going to have to disagree with you here Doc. I thought BfSp was a bit of a disappointment. The dwarf models were terrible and the force selection was designed for 6th edition. There was some plusses but the minus out weighed the. I regret buying my box set.

I think he's on to something...

I was happy with both Warhammer starters. I actually painted the dwarfs from that BEFORE the regular plastic kit ones I'd purchased.

While the entire AoBR box is great (I bought 2), I would have bought it if only for the mini-rulebook. Carrying around the big rulebook was almost half the weight of all the contents of my army case. Also, this way I don't have to worry about damaging my nice rulebook while gaming.

I think the current GW starters are excellent!

For true noobies, it provides two basic forces so that two people can adequately learn the game, at a very reasonable price.

For vets who already play or want to start the races included, it provides the chance to get some cheapo minis.

For vets who don't want the minis - we can still get the big book separately!

Nope, but neither can I stuff a Codex or notebook in there, either.

This is why I have a backpack for carrying all of my gaming stuff.

Remeber in 3rd edition when you had heaps of different starter packs with all the races to date [i think] like i bought DE vs SM and got terrain and a land speeder and few other things for $80AUD, im certain there was and IG vs Ork one, there was others.

Why not bring them back?

Starters and box sets are a great idea, for new gamers to get into the hobby cheap, vet gamers to pick up "another army", and GW to make money off of less-than-incredible models.

I like Battleforces as Starters. Design them right with 2 Troops, 1 Fast, 1 Heavy, 1 Transport, and they're instantly playable.
