KamikazeCanuck wrote: It was definately that new fangled internet that killed the magazine star. Although I hadn't bought a Wizard for many years before its demise I did enjoy them when I was younger. As for what's missing I don't know but that magazine was often hilarious to read. It seemed like everyone was having fun making it. So perhaps its that intangible "personality" that's missing.
Agreed!
Certain sections definitely seemed that way.
It maybe got a bit too corporate towards the end, whatever that exactly means, but it was still a fun ride for a while.
I know working for Hero was fun! It was my first job out of college. I was working on my favorite thing. Comics! Of course being in the industry kinda ruined it for me too. I once had dinner with Rob Liefeld and could not understand how he got so popular. Seemed like a nice but big chip on his shoulder back then. Nicest guy in comics was Mike Allred. The creator/artist of Madman.
Wow, really did not like the begging of the age of Bendisless Avengers. Felt like dropping this title for the first time ever. I know there's a lot of Hickman FF fans here though, perhaps you guys will like it.
Was that the one with like all the side kicks being told they were too young to be a part of the justice league? I think I caught the first two episodes...

Sad for Gail Simone; happy for Batgirl ... tentatively. I never bought this comic because of Gail Simone. I always bought it and continue to buy it for Barbara Gordan as Batgirl.
The idea of Scott Lobdell writing Batgirl in the breach sounds awesome to me -- and not just because it would "break the internet." The internet is among the worst things to ever happen to comics.

From what I've heard it had to because DC lost the rights to at least two characters that were in the rest of the episodes. Static Shock, Icon and Rocket were owned by MIlestone, so the whole of DC Nation had to stop. There's talk that they are changing animation to fix it. Instead of Static the character might be Black Lightning instead.
But that might just be conspiracy nut thing too. DC says it was because of some 20th Anniversary thing.
It's a fantastic show with a good deep story for all ages I think. Though really young might get bored with it. My 6yo son loves the action but gets bored with the rest.

That would explain why I never heard about Icon and Rocket before. But didn't Static have his own (short-lived) book when the new 52 started? The old show was fun, I bet he would totally kick butt in Young Justice. I'm also crossing fingers that he'll show up in Injustice.
On the show itself: In my opinion, it's the best animated show since The Last Airbender and the best superhero cartoon since Batman TAS.

I read a terrible X-files/Planetary wannabe called Hoax Hunters.
Ugh.
In other news, Manhattan Projects is still kicking and awesome. Death
Buddhist fueled teleportation? Yes, please.
I'm sad because Spaceman is over. I really want to read it over
to see the whole Carter/Orson relationship. I'm also sad that the
Boys is over, but the panel with the Truth in it was classic.

It's got better character designs than in the comics too. There's been really quick shots of Hawkman and Guy Gardner that look WAY better than in the comics.
So far they have also had one reference to Legion of Super-Heroes, my fav comics, with the planet Rimbor being used. The home of Ultraboy in the future.
So, I bought my first ever comic at the start of november (Deadpool #1) and enjoyed it thoroughly, but having heard that many comics drop in quality after the first issue, went into the second with a teensy bit of trepidation.
I shouldn't have. #2 is just as funny, if not funnier in places than the first issue, and well worth getting. If the rest are this good then I may have to branch out into other series!
I knew Tommy Merlyn's father was going to fight GA at some point when they showed him fencing in a previous episode. I think most assume THE Merlyn would be Tommy though. That was a nice twist.
How about the suggestion of the name Green Arrow! That was fun.
I got my one of two comics yesterday. Legion Lost, and it sucks :( It's going to be cancelled with the next issue so I'm just getting it to complete it. The writer has obviously not read old Legion stories and doesn't know the characters.
DC Nation comes to Cartoon Network on January 5th!
Warner Bros. Animation’s DC Nation programming block comes soaring back, bringing action from the pages of DC Comics to the television screens of comic book fans of all ages. Green Lantern: The Animated Series goes retro-futuristic when it starts the block with the episode “Steam Lantern.” After being blasted by the Anti-Monitor, Hal finds himself in a steampunk world. Young Justice: Invasion answers lingering questions from the past season with “Before the Dawn,” when Blue Beetle, Miss Martian and the team go on a covert mission to rescue some of their own, uncovering shocking secrets and devastating truths. In between episodes, fans will enjoy all-new DC animated shorts starring some of their favorite DC Comics characters.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series will start up at 10 ET that Saturday with Young Justice: Invasion following at 10:30.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Finally! Why is it that my favourite cartoons always get such ridicouus long delays?
I recently read a rumor that Young Justice had to be put on hold because DC lost the rights to Static Shock and they had to alter the show accordingly. Do you guys know something about that? He appeared in the new 52 Teen Titans but I think his own book got canceled.
Batman #15, Action Comics #15, Ultimates, New X-Men, Iron Man 3 and 4, and a few others... Cable and X-Force #1 was interesting... I'm not sure if I'm going to keep reading that one... The last cable stuff I read, he went crazy and needed Deadpool's help.

Watched episode 5 and 6 of Arrow. It's nice to have a new live action superhero tv show, but sometimes I wish they wouldn't be so afraid of using more material from the comics. Deathstroke looks really cool, but what exactly does this version of the Royal Flush Gang have in common with the comic version? They're not even calling them by name. Throw us a bone now and then. Ans is there any supporting character who's not a villian actually from the comics?
Great to have YJ back soon! The thing about DC loosing the rights to Static and others was a rumor. But it's not confirmed if true or not. DC said they did it on purpose. If it was they went about it wrong I think.
Arrow has been great but I'm getting kinda sick of the adult "teen angst". CW over-does that a bit I think. I'm kinda sad that they have said there will never be any super powers in the the show. So no Black Canary Cry.
I geeked out on Saturday. I went to a small comic show near me and bought a bunch of Legion of Super-Heroes Heroclix. I didn't realize they did the Legion! They were pretty cheap too. A bunch for $1, $2, and two of them for $5. Never played the game and probably wont. I just wanted the figures. But now I'm thinking it would be pretty cool to play. So anyone here play Heroclix?
So, I picked up Deadpool #3, Thunderbolts #1-2, and was roped into getting Amazing Spider-Man #700, and I'd recommend all of them. (I didn't get them all at once, it was over the course of a couple of weeks)
Deadpool is getting wierder, but in a good way, with some quite odd moments (odder than they were already).
Thunderbolts is getting more active after being fairly talky in #1, and has some decent action scenes, though it did seem a teensy bit short.
Amazing Spider-Man #700 was brilliant, it established how it'd gotten to that situation well, and had quite an interesting new dynamic (new as far as I can tell anyway), followed by an ending that surprised me. (then a couple of quite cool mini comics), the £6/$8 price tag did put me off slightly though.
All in all, I'm spending far too much time and money on comics, but enjoying them, so I don't think I'll stop at this point
What's the Thunderbolts roster these days? I've read some of their comics from the old days (and think MACH-1 and Songbird are great), but nothing since then.

I hate to admit it but I'm thinking of going over to the dark side of digital comics. It's just so hard to find some back issues and then they cost more. Not to mention I have to wait over a month for some TPBs from my local store.

Totally different now: Red Hulk, Punisher, Deadpool, Venom (Flash Thompson), Elektra and a few more to come.
