Yeah i'm pretty damn happy with how this tank is turning out I think i've got the balance right for weathered in a dirty mostly dry environment? the little details will bring it together in the end with a little clean colours I should have it finished tomorrow or at least darn close to finished, do you think some edges need a little colour highlighting or does it look good enough like this with the camo and chipping?

Onwards and with pics! like a leopard springing from a branch onto it's prey, the suprise of a decent update from me unnerves the natural roaming Nerds grazing on the savannah in greater Dakkaland.













Assembled the last of Vet squad 2 with 3 Melta guns again I didn't like the massive bulky GW ones so I sourced other ones to use I felt fitted the aesthetic better from Bitspudlo.

I was starting to get a little concerned with if the force would gel with me as I like to have the feeling of each model being an individual warrior forged in the heat of battle, fighting for his future in an unforgiving galaxy, but I think I might be o.k! I have a feeling the Vendettas are going to look freaking cool as in this scheme!!

The guard and tank are looking fantastic, I really like the way weathering came out.

Good LAWD! Ive been gone a few days and this is what I come back to! Its nearing an overload. For realz Damo.........this is wicked. All of it. The Guardsmen look fracking fantastic! Seeing 80+ of those guys on a table will be just sweet and your tank is pure grade A bad assidry. I also like the ass protecting ass cushion. I have one of those as well

Funny enough, the scheme you chose for your Guard is very similar to how I thought of painting Guard, but I was thinking blue instead of red. Great minds eh?

Yes! Ass-protection is essential

Gentlemen, ass protection is definitely a must when you have a day off and spend 6-8 hours painting in the new and improved Nerd lair! and what did i paint? MOAR GUARD! yes I got nearly the rest of my 10 man Vet squad done! very nearly, it's not turning out to be my smoothest or neatest job but I am going to be kind to myself as I am sure it's going to be the first squad of many many little goggled men! my main prob was after i washed them with agrax earthshade and then highlighted them, the colour looked off somehow and i kept going incase it came right for me! it didn't and I scratched my head perplexed as I wasn't sold on how it looked and then it hit me! I used the wrong bloody wash! aargh! but which one did I use? was it Ogryn Flesh? Chestnut Ink?, Devlin Mud?, Agrax earthshade?, Flesh Wash?, no? ........

........ then it hit me, DUH I bought a bottle of Army Painter Soft Tone! specifically to use on my new force! so, I had to re wash and highlight which took me longer than I wanted and made it just a bit messier on the paintjob, but they look o.k so far and are shaping up to be finished tomorrow as well as the Leman russ!

They'll be fine mate. Get some of the other bits on them painted and it'll break them up enough visually that you won't even notice. Besides, these boys might have been issued clothes from a slightly different dye lot...

Lol thanks guys! now the wash is dry I can't really tell the difference which is a relief! and once I paint the guns and lenses, grenades etc it'll be all good! that's the fun for tomorrow, I have 5 cd's lined up ready to crank up and paint ALL DAY!

Always nice to see variety in IG regiments, good work. The paintscheme looks great, I love the autogun conversions, and the head swaps really characterize them. It's hard to believe that they're still made from mostly Cadian bits.

Didn't quite get it all done but I managed a bit before I ashamedly sat down on my rather comfy lounge and promptly fell asleep like an old man! and then didn't wake up for 3 hours!

but I can show you what I did do!

I painted the roll on the Russ and gave the hull some subtle highlighting in the original colours so it fits with the strong highlights I am partial to!



I was so close to getting the troops done I managed to get the guns painted (not neatly...but painted) and some other bits blocked in.



and squad number 2 got some primer!


I believe Bubble asked about my stained glass windows and if it would work on a more religious or detailed pane? I tried it out on another image and it looks o.k, the pen means i can't get to trace all the fine details but i feel for our scale modeling it will work on the buildings?


it was about 32 degrees today or 89.6 for you Americans! so i had some furry company with me inside with the air conditioning going! and apparently I am the one to hang out with! here's a quick pic I took of the boys chillin with their dad!

Nice work on those guardsmen Nerdy... they're going to look great en'masse. Doggies are very cute. I see you have the black & white thing going on too (same for my cats).

The force is coming along nicely. The Russ, in particular looks great. Really nice weathering. I also really like the weaponns on the Guardsmen. How do you paint the metals on them?

nOt_u Big Willy is a Samoyed they are 'people' dogs mate! they don't care what they're doing as long as they have their family around! i'm actually pretty happy with him at the moment he was entered into a show over the weekend and bought home best of breed on both days! so in a fortnight he's going for his champion title! I reckon he'll romp it home with a win!

YB, hey man! the guns are embarassingly basic! it's boltgun metal washed with Nuln Oil and highlighted with Mithril silver! easy as pie

Lol....COOL is the best term for him double coat, bred in Siberia used to the cold climes! they're awesome dogs but can be stubborn (as with most snow dog breeds) very caring ans with buckets of personality! my home is filled with the 3 stooges of dogs! 2 Samoyeds and Oscar the LabX it's a madhouse when they get going, I'll keep you posted after Big Willy's next show hopefully I can call him a champion! not a champion of Khorne though

By the way this stuff is coming out nicer than i could ever have imagined! The tank camo and chipping is beautiful and the colour scheme not just unique but cooked to perfection! (I mean painted.)

I fear I must have missed this because I dont believe it would have received so little enthusiasm otherwise, but HOW ON EARTH did you do that religious glass pane? It looks incredible, as always you are enticing me to abandon all my projects and just try to imitate you!

Oh J-Paint! you make me blush with such praise! I mean seriously when it comes to guard and awesome paint it's YOU who inspired ME! I am glad you think it's coming together nicely, I put a lot of thought into the colours and feel I wanted for the force and I believe it's a good combo to represent a desert or arid environment force and at a stretch it can still look quite dry forest/bush land!

it was hard for me to bring myself to not highlight and paint as i normally do especially with the tank, I wanted to be dirty and gritty but not hide the vehicle beneath an overload of mud and camo that would have totally disguised the vehicle itself (if that makes sense?)

and you like the window pane? sweet! I do too, and it's dead simplez! gimme ten minutes or so and I'll be back to tell you what I did?

O.k I'm back! J the window is pretty easy, I googled some images I liked and thought could be used well in buildings, I then emailed them to my father who re sized them and had them printed on clear acetate (you can just print them on paper and have them photocopied onto the clear for about $5) I wanted the leading look and researched model train sites for ideas but stumbled on a scrapbooking site of all things! they were talking about these gel pens that leave a raised ink when used on glossy non porous surfaces so i bought 2 from ebay for a few bucks and they work well! the lines are about 2mm wide so the designs will need to be chosen with that in mind :-) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sakura-BLACK-GLAZE-GEL-PENS-Pen-2-Pack-Wendy-Vecchi-/370772704941?pt=US_Die_Cutting_Machines_Dies&hash=item5653c67ead
