Well you should see some stripe progress in about 5 days time, then it'll be details and troops on the days after that! should be a pretty good few days for painting and updates!

You could also cut a very thin strip of plasticard and glue it to the tops of the weapons, for a G36C-type look.

Hey everyone can I put a shout out to you guys to see if anyone has some bitz i'm after? it may be a longshot but I'm looking for any plastic Catachan arms I can get my hands on at the moment? preferably not holding a gun etc. it's for my Marbo conversion and I've been looking around but thought i'd see if anyone who passes through here has any spare i'm happy to recipricate with some SM parts or paint a model for someone? I think i could work some magic with the catachan mortar arm and convert him to be holding a blade in a reverse grip? but first i'll see what's out and about!

speaking of bitz and models! to all those who I have things to send! don't fret I haven't forgotten you! inmygravenimage I have a couple of Autocannons ready to go! Gits your marine is packed up ready, Kingcracker soon you shall be warbossed up to the eyeballs, GiraffeX your Celestial Lion Chapter master is itching to rip someone's heart out! and Pyriel.... you have to wait a little longer i'm afraid as my slack friend is at a music festival and uncontactable! (damn hippies)

if i forgot anyone please PM me and let me know so i can rectify the situation!

STOP!.............Hammer time!...No?.... Nerdfest09 time?....yeah that's better

Tank-O-rama my friends I got paintin' today and added the camo stripes on all my vehicles and even managed to do more on my Leman Russ, I had one of those moments like in 'Happy Gilmore' when everyone says he can't putt but then he sinks it after practicing and turns to Shooter McGavin and says "Looks like Happy learned how to putt" well, "Looks like Nerdfest learned how to weather vehicles"... it's working so far I think!

anyway, here's some stage shots of how i'm going!
first just the red/brown stripes:

then I grabbed my Devlin mud and gave it a delicate wash around all the sharp edges and details which made it pop with the colours imo?

Then I began the chipping! using my finger nail to scrape some paint off and expose the metal underneath which was made easier by the addition of the liquid mask i sponged on earlier then used a rough stiff bristled brush to scrub at it and the result so far is pretty good and is an excellent base for future painting in the coming days!

my Kromlech Plasma rifles arrived and they look much more imperial guard I think than the other rather bulky ones! a little bit sleeker and suit my force.

Stained glass, not Dave Steingass although they are both pretty damn cool and can be tricky to reproduce! I cut out some of the design I finally got printed (thanks dad) and used the black gel pen to give the 3D impression of the leading in the windows, this method works well on larger pieces but the ink is a bit thick to do any really fine work, I managed to use it and highlight just some parts of the smaller window so it gave the impression of the leading even though i didn't follow all the lines.
here you can see the raised ink and how it looks close up.

a kind of washed out shot of the whole piece I'm using.

this was just a rough mock up for fitment, i will cut it up and make broken panels etc. and have small jagged parts still left in frames, but it looks good scale wise and I thought you'd like to have a look

finally I started some fatigue camo! I like where it's going and after details and highlighting it'll be sweet I think? first just the red brown stripes randomly.

then i added some small dots in 'sand' to break it up and it looks much better, as well as following the advice of Flinty I shortened the magazine on the lasgun/whatever it it now

PHEW!! what an update and it only took me less than 3 hours to do all that today talk about twilight zone! I must have really been in the moment

love to know what you think, I hope it looks as you imagined? the models are definitely looking how i imagined at this stage and i can't wait to do more on Monday!

Ciao

Very impressive work all-round Damo. Those tanks are looking great and the stained glass is very well done. I did something similar with stained glass on my MoTF base. Worked out well there too.

Lovely results all round! The stained glass looks totally awesome.

Regarding the executioner, you could always substitute other plasma based weaponry rather than using the mighty weapon if doom that comes with it. I used a couple of marine plasma cannon stuck together for mine.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

The red works for me. Good camo.
and the weathering looks good.
Are you going to add the sand coloured dots to the tanks, or is that just for the men?
Would probably have to be a different size though...

Stained glass looks good in situ.

Well Vik, remember, the patterns on fatigues are always gonna be smaller than a larger object like a tank

You only use sharp contrasting colors when you want a disruption pattern (confusing the lines of the tank from the human eye) Damo's has been faded madly by sandstorms and battle wear in a desert environment
You and I are used to seeing woodland summer/winter patterns for use in our European/Northern US environments Vik

The camo is stunning mate! Love the weathering, on the dozer blades especially. Stained glass has come up a treat, it's been something of a mystery to me how to do that convincingly.

Thought you may like to see the Nerd Cave as looks now! it's nearly done, I need to get the gaming table with under storage built and add some more frame behind the posters and then it's done! it's really nice to have an entire room to dedicate to what is such a large part of my life and now I feel more keen to delve further into painting and modeling with such a great space

it even has obligatory Hazard striping!

and tomorrow it's more painting for me!

Lol thanks guys (and girl!) :-) the Hazard stripes are just heavy duty canvas tape! and the posters I actually got from ebay! pretty cheap and the quality is brilliant, they're really thick and have a great finish and they are also pretty tough, I was impressed, if you want me to find the seller and PM you Bubble just let me know?

Oh Dave, I know man! more shelves are a must! I am having shelves built under the gaming table so they will be hidden by a curtain and I can put larger things under there and free up more space on my current shelves!

now i'm off to paint for the day and update late tonight! (the Nerd Wench has the laptop at work all day) so chuck a comment up and she'll be refreshed later :-)
