I don't have pics, but some fool put a scratchbuilt warlord (?) titan for sale on eBay a week or two ago. It was very simple-looking, PVC pipe/toilet paper roll weapons, completely smooth surfaces with no detail at all, that kinda thing, and a very "meh" green paintjob. Looked like it was made out of cardboard.

$650 starting bid. That's more than a real titan from Forge World. And it looked like crap.

A Wraithlord made out of sprues and spare bases. It came complete with 3-4 sets of tiny clothes which included a poncho, pimp hat and purse. It went for about 5 bucks.

EDIT: Ah yes, here it is.

Something very cool - An old citadel miniature (I think. From before GW went entirely in-house) of Johnny Alpha, Wulf Sternhammer and The Gronk. They are characters from the British Comic 2000AD and are the main characters of the Strontium Dog stories. Very awesome. Almost certainly worth far more to the right person than I paid for them, which was £5.70 inc P&P.

No, gronk was an alien with a suction cap-type nose/proboscis. I don't think they ever explained where he/it was from. I only ever saw a few pics of the gronk, and never a detailed one (and never saw the mini - I've got one of each of the rest of the 2000AD stuff though).

Why does that make him an idiot? People will pay heaps for well painted character models, 100 dollars is actually pretty low if its as good as you describe it to be.

Really I didn't realize that people would actually pay that much. I stand corrected. Here's the link for those who want to take a look.

That Commisar is painted by Sonny Bundgaard in Denmark. He is an amazing painter and modellor.
He almost always gets insane prices.

Honestly, at $100 BIN, I'm surprised it's still available.

I laughed pretty damned hard at this one. I wouldn't pay for the model out of principle, but I would buy the guy a beer.

I've definitely seen some absolutely embarassing "pro painted" armies though. Why are all pro-painted models absolutely stock too? Is it just a cost-benefit thing?

Pretty much.

With Ebay, combined with my old Staff Discount, upon leaving the Company I was able to sell off my Tomb Kings, Iron Warriors and Empire armies for more than I bought them for, without reaching their full price.

One of my local opponents is one of those swine blessed with the ability to paint very competently, very quickly. Rather than doing as a business per se, he likes to buy a new, slightly unusual force, paint it, whip everyone silly with it (he is also a damned good gamer!) then flog it on, pocketing the profit he makes, and then using the same initial outlay to reinvest in yet another force.

Doesn't exactly pay the bills that way, but it's a system of sorts.

I have to say that that is my number one pet hate for ebay, people should learn the meaning of pro painting.

Anyway wierd stuff found on ebay: theres someone trying to sell a still in packaging Khorne Terminator lord
Zhufor from forgeworld for £29.99+p&p, rrp for that mini from forgeworld is £ 14.70 +p&p, its been re-listed
like 6 times since gamesday (i've been watching it in case anyone is silly enough to buy it) i know it has a best
offer option but i've offered asking price and been turned down twice. Another one that amuses me is that theres
someone still collecting pre-orders on ebay for the individual minis from AoBR.

It has meaning? I figured it ranked right up there with "3v3 Pros only" in RTS games.

Actually, by a technicality, they HAVE learned the meaning of pro-painted: if painting is how they make money, they can indeed be called a professional painter, even if they're not that good. Professional is a loaded word when you think about it. Shaq isn't technically that good at basketball, just very tall, but he's still a pro-basketball player. We just assume that pro-painted = well painted.

I have a great one that has ever made me cautious of ebay...
A friend of mine got a good deal a while back for a resin baneblade varient. I don't remember what it was called but it had a huge plasma cannon for the main gun. ANyway the guy put up pics of the box that the actual model came in but what was sent was so horrible as to be slightly funy. The guy took what we can only assume was a hacksaw and lopped of a resin baneblade's main gun. Then he did the same to some poor titan's plasma blastgun. He then..HOT GLUE GUNNED the to pieces together. Ork mekboyz shook their heads sadly at that piece of crap. It was truly craptastic!
