2. Pariah Lords.
3. Hints of a rift between the origional necrons and the upstart Paraihs.

4) less wargear that's so good it becomes required in every army (res orb)
5) a balanced codex that can create lots of different but good army builds.

Well, as the World's Leading Scholar on 2nd edition Necrons I feel I should throw my 12 fen into the hat. never played them, never plan to, so my ideas might be a bit impractical.

1 - Overall the Necs need to stop being Robot Space Marines so I want a drastic overhaul.
2 - Warriors will be T6, Feel No Pain, Fearless BUT no armor save. After all they're metal skeletons, not metal skeletons with armor on.
3 - The return of the anti-power weapon field as wargear. Originally the Necs had a disruption field that caused all power weapons and the like to malfunction so in CC you had to fight with stats, not weapons. I'd make it wargear and have turn off power weapon attacks for the squad. Since they have no armor save anyway it would only affect fists.
4 - Introduce flesh-coated 'terminator' style necrons. I mean they've always been wannabe terminators, it's time to make it a unit.
5 - Power weapons on wraiths and flayed ones, I mean 'duh.

Oh and...

Think we'll take FNP replacing WBB as a given, so...

1. More choices, especially in Troops
2. No C'Tan
3. A simpler rule for Living Metal
4. Carnifex-like Tomp Spyder options supported by a suitably cool looking model
5. No running (just doesn't suit Necrons...) but offset by T5

1. WBB to Feal no Pain
2. Gauss to Rending
3. Flayed ones > Fleet, Scout and rending
4. A general +1 toughness to the army but only a 4+ save
5. Destroyers have 2 wounds each and have a shorter range buts stay the same points.

This is what i would like.
Although i would like the idea of having HQ choice that change the dynamic of your army choice. eg destroyer lord gives the option of 1 unit of destroyers as troops.

#1: No Phase Out. The phase out rule, more than anything else, is what currently kills Necrons as a serious tournament army.

#2: A serious Melee component: Pariahs, Flayed Ones and Wraiths are extremely cool concepts. 2 out of the 3 have extremely cool models. All 3 are trash units. If they were serious units we might have a shot. Scarabs, Tomb Spyders and C'tan are effective, and would compose a good H2H army if Phase Out if removed.

#3: Stubborn. If you want the teleport-out-of-combat gimmick to be the salvation of Necrons cursed with indifferent CC skills you've got to keep them around through the first round of combat.

#4: Improve Gauss vs. vehicles. It would be easy to go overboard on this (Gauss = Rending). I think the right way to go is to keep the current glance rules but add that Gauss attacks count as AP 1 vs vehicles.

#5: More character: Necrons need to seem more like the Terminator, less like Space Marines. Whether this is SAP, no cover saves, making the gauss flaying effect more scary, high toughness, whatever. Increase the points if you've gotta, but make the toasters less like Space Marines.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

1) Pariahs/Wraiths (Better rules and better models)
2) Armywide Stubborn (Fearless is too much IMO)
3) More Vehicles (The Mono has too much of a target painted on it)
4) Keep WBB (much more flavourful than FNP)
5) Flayed Ones as Troops (and better at combat like a a non-power version of Lightning Claws)

Keep WBB. I don't get the desire to make all armies the same. WBB is cool fluffwise, and it's a cool change from the norm.

No special characters, just because I don't like them.

I make flayed ones and pariahs troops choices, so that they'll be able to do a CCy army if they want to.

That's about it for me.

My changes go from the specific to the general:

1) Additional, cheaper vehicle choice -- give players some options for a particle whip platform other than the Monolith.

2) Total "rebuild" of Pariahs -- they're very weak conceptually. It's not bad enough that their rules stink, but they look like some kind of bad, cardboard Doctor Who villain.

3) Org chart/unit role fixes -- either better differentiate units or move them in the org chart to prevent situations like Immmortals and Pariahs, or Scarabs and Wraiths.

4) Willingness by the game designers to upset the apple cart and make changes where they're needed -- Mat Ward is supposed to be the one working on the codex, and I hope that new blood means some new approaches and not overly deferential treatment to the previous codex.

5) Better conceptual work on Necrons, C'tan and what they're all about -- the army concept is a mishmash of the old Chaos Androids, WFB Undead in space and Lovecraftian horror. Somehow the whole thing doesn't work together as well as it should. An example is sleek, streamlined Warriors that fit a high-tech robot army but don't evoke ancient, Lovecraftian evil. Another is how the army is positioned as "scary" in the fluff, but is fairly weak in terms of psychology rules and lacks "fear" as an important and intrinsic part of its gameplay.

I could go on with #5, but I don't want to bore anybody.

Top 3 reasons WBB must be swapped for Feel No Pain:

1. Putting models on their side chips the paint.
2. It's confusing.
3. It encourages unit duplication in an allready limited and boring army list.

Really, #1 on that list is enough to get rid of the rule. I have way too many chipped Necromunda figures.

Pariah models need to be redone to match the awesomeness of their concept art, that's the first bit.
They also need to be made not to suck. At least give them A2 and fleet.

Give Make wraiths more useful as well. They have a great model, but they need some buffing. Perhaps give the models better poses.

Either move flayed ones to troops, or make them better in some way.

Cheaper, plastic kits. It's hard to build an army with immortals, pariahs, wraiths, flayed ones, and the like because they're just so damn expensive.

Also, remove the C'tan and give us more options for Necron lords that don't have options that are almost required(res orb). Perhaps link how you customize your necron lord with various special abilities for your army(for example, take one X unit as troops, or each unit of X gets X special rule). But don't make it game-breaking rules like some special characters, and make it based on how you actually customize the lord, not on how you would pick a special character. You know, for lots of customization.

I would certainly buy Necrons were they a well developed army in assault as well, and not just 'that OTHER shooty army.' Because, quite frankly, they just suck as that.

Some good stuff so far.

To be honest though, I'd like Necrons to just be weird. Right now, they are different from Marines, but not incredibly so. The current units definitely need some more thought and there are a lot of good ideas here, but I'd really like to see some strange as hell unit abilities and lord powers (and the next bit is the harder part) which work well in game.

More plastics in definitely on the list. I see folks griping about facing the multi-Monolith army all the time only to completely forget that 'Crons don't have much in terms of plastics. Building a sizable unit of Pariahs, Flayed Ones, Immortals, etc. isn't cheap when you need to do it by the blister. I'm sure cost isn't the only factor behind the 'all I ever see is Monoliths' complaint, but it's definitely a factor.

Only one of those units you mentioned is useful.

They could get away with leaving all those models as metal only IF (big, fat if) they made the units useful.

Hell, I've sucked it up and bought all 30 Immortals for my army. Right now, they're the only viable Elites choices I have as a Necron player.
