Okay, since we discuss every other possible aspect of the GW business, let's discuss GW's decision to make all their prices nice round numbers. WTF? Why is this, when just about every place else you go, they try to trick you with X.99? Is GW too lazy to be bothered to take off the penny, and do some hard math??!?!??!?!

Actually, rounding up instead of doing the .99 is more honest, as leaving a price as "$49.99" or whatever is a psychological trick that gets people to believe the price is lower than it actually is.

Any release date on this model?

I too enjoy nice whole integers in my products.

I like round prices. In Germany (and Europe I suppose) they are still that way, in the UK, something threw the prices off.

Likely the VAT reduction.

I like the round price thing also.

FWIW, I do too. It really is more honest, it just seems that all GW price discussions must begin with a lambasting of GW.

BTW, it seems that studies have shown that "precise" numbers, such as 14.95, are seen as being better values than round numbers.

This is so true. A normal conversation with my girlfriend goes like this:

GF: "Look! This is only 40 dollars!"

Me: "It's $49.99, not 40"

GF: "Its close enough."

I swear she can't actually read 9's sometimes.

From what I understand, the .99 thing started out as a way to keep cashier's honest because if they had to make change, then they would be a record of the transaction. They couldn't just pocket the Bills for their own personal use.

I was just about to post the same thing as chaplaingrabthar. That's the story I heard too.

As for GW using whole numbers, why not? It's easier. More shops should do it. Saves you having endless coin shrapnel in your pocket.

I like coin shrapnel though. Mostly for toll roads.

I had to look at your location flag to make sense of your post.

In the US, prices are posted without including sales tax. As such, a nice, round $10.00 price tag actually costs me $10.83 (couresy of Santa Clara County & the State of California; that number is going to increase very shortly). Given that every state (and many counties & cities) has their own sales tax, it's impossible for GW to set their prices to create a nice, round number.

This is very true. This is the primary reason for having the .99. The only other reason is to save money. It actually costs you to keep a till full of loose change. Somones got to count it, the Banks charge business's for changing large denominations into small ones, and its more difficult to handle.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

Who actually falls for that nowadays?

Especially as it'll be $50+ after we add sales tax.

I have no idea if such is true, because at this point its basically urban legend.

My experience in retail has taught me that people are tricked into thinking that they are getting a better deal with the price ending in .x9 or .x5

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

It's just the way it works. If something is $29.99 then it's not $30, and people - for whatever reason - see it that way.

I actually like the way GW just has whole numbers. It is strange that they alone do that, but it does make things simpler. And, hey, maybe it isn't simpler, but it just feels that way!

I think they did it to aid currency conversion or something.

Thats certainly why they switched to the letter price codes. Cheaper on packaging as well as you only need a single multilingual label for each Blister, as of course opposed to having one label per language per Blister.

Minor saving but a saving nontheless, and you can also adjust prices without having to relabel the blisters.

A good friend of mine is a Redshirt (or blueshirt, or whatever), and apparently the VAT reduction is a complete pain - they never had to keep much in the way of change instore because most transactions were round numbers. Now? Not so much.

"Hello? You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel."
