Well, is it supposed to be army-related? Or just 40k in general? Whatever you do, DO NOT use the imperial eagle. The reasons for this should be quite obvious.

depending where on your arm depends on the shape of tattoo you get and more importantly the shape of your arm, if you have big arms your going to need a bigger Or Wider tattoo than if you had small arms. Big arms with small centerd tattoos look like not so great, so how big are you talking and where abouts on your arm?

Nothing, nothing is a goods tattoo. Anything you get you'll end up regretting at some point.

I'm getting the eagle on my chest this week, maybe next. I've actually seen quite a few of them tattooed. Get what you want.

You should use the imperial Aquilla, but with only one head, so it's not as nerdy.

And it can have captions like: Unity for Our Kind

If you're getting a 40K tattoo, then you are already pretty nerdy. Get it with two heads and when people ask, tell them its (insert number of years that you have been playing) worth of passion and dedication. Don't be embarrassed by your hobbies. Be embarrassed of your family and friends when they do something stupid. Be proud of who you are and what you do.

Use the Aquila. Don't let other people's assumptions dictate your life.

There's several great symbols in 40k that would make great tattoos. As mentioned before, the aquila is easily mistaken as a Nazi icon, so just keep that in mind. The Inquisitorial "I" symbol would look very nice as a tattoo, as well as many of the Chapter or legion symbols of the various Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine chapters/legions. The Chaos star would also be one, in that it has its roots outside the game as a general symbol of chaos and disorder. I'm planning to use the Chaos to 'add on' to a circular tattoo I already have.

Here's the article of the Chaos star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_star. Note that the symbol for Law is a single arrow pointing up - the standard SM symbol for their Tact squads iirc.

In any event I'd thumb through the various rulebooks - there's oodles of neat designs in just abuot every one.

The one thing I wouldn't do is ask other people for their opinions on what you should tattoo on your arm.

If you're not 100% certain about what you want, then you shouldn't be getting a tattoo. More than likely, you'll end up regretting it if you just get what other people like. Tattoos are a form of permanent self-expression. Just keep that in mind.

The important thing is, what do YOU think is a good tattoo?

Personally, my 40k tattoos start and ends at a variation of the 13th company logo. At the end of the day, it's just a wolf howling by a moon...to me it's no better or worse than having some tribal design/panther or whatever.

I,ve always thought the Chaos star would make a interesting tattoo,as it is'nt soley a 40k desighn..but I have also entertained the idea of getting a Goff "bull skull" done as well.
ultimitly it's your choice, but as others have said, and I can attest to (I have LOTS of tattooes) think long and hard about what you get...they don't wash off.

A lot of the Chaos iconography could work and anyone keen enough to spot it's source is too much of a nerd to be calling you one. Also, some of the Space Marine chapter icons would fit as well..

Be sure you don't show your tattoo around a GW store / Event. Getting a Tat is breaking there slowed IP laws. I doubt they would do much to you but they might sue the guy that did the tat for you.
