I accepted a commission to paint up a Warhound Titan in a theme that matches the Grey Knights. Here's how the beauty arrived:

I'll have to do some touch up work and a little bit of "re-primering", but otherwise it should be good to go. The customer requested a Standard Quality project from my menu (see the link in my signature), with lots of washes and drybrushing. My goal is have it look as clean as possible for the tabletop, while standing up to close scrutiny. It is likely that I will be tackling another Titan in the future under the Show Piece Quality, so this will be a good test to find out what techniques will ease the process, as well as overcoming any issues with time, resources, and detail management.

Tonight will be the first night of the project, so I had better get ready!

Okay, so here are some photos of a test-run of the paint scheme. I haven't finished brightening up the gold yet, but the grey tones have finally reached a level I am pleased with. It took about three different tries.

The customer's scheme is a little different, but FW Titans seem to be far more textured than regular GW models, so the drybrushing technique employed on his Grey Knights turns out a little different here.

Anyway:

Again, I still have to work on the gold. The grey I tried to achieve was that of an ancient, almost made of stone appearance. It grants a bit of an archaic appearance to the giant machine.

I hope you guys, and my customer, enjoy this so far.

Crud.

If the rest of the model lives up to what I'm seeing on the toe, this thing will win the game just by being on the table. ; )

Looking good.

How much you charge for something like this?

Hey everybody! I apologize for the delays. I had an ill daughter, and my wife was on her spring break this week (she's a teacher), so I had to do a lot of family time. I did manage to get some more work done, however, so without further ado:

As you can see, I have action going on all over the model. It's been quite an attraction at my FLGS. The customer and I agreed on a Standard Quality (tabletop) method, with lots of washes and drybrushes. I've managed to get the primary color on all of the large armor plates, and the base metal is down. I'm going to be working on the gold trim tomorrow, as well as cleaning up the metal. After that, it will be on to the servitors and pilot crew, as well as any little pipes, markerlights, and Inquisitor symbols.

Thanks for viewing!

As it currently stands, I have nearly completed all of the gold trim. Unforunately, my camera was left at my wife's place of work, so I likely won't have it back until Thursday. I will get some pictures soon.

Next up will be the bone and crimson details, followed be "re-blackening" areas primered and left black, or that were hit by the onslaught of boltgun metal.

Is there texture going on there, or just the painted effect?

Okay, so after a long hiatus courtesy of Easter and other family happenings, here are some updates.

Some weathering detail is coming to life on the exhaust. Again, as it's a "Standard Quality" project, I will only take it so far.

The gun looks ready to shoot a thousand rounds a minute.

I've just laid the basecoat on the tabbard/ribbon thing, as well as on the Inquisition symbols throughout the model.

Smile for me!

As always, C&C is welcome.

I've also just accepted three further commissions, including a squad of Eldar Rangers, a 10-man squad of Blood Ravens Assault Marines, and potentially an entire Eldar army behind that. Not to mention I plan on having a Gamesday entry ready for Chicago in July. Busy summer!

Since its WIP i have no idea which part is done and which isnt.

But atm the gold /copper /brass ( whichever it will be) need
tons more definition.

Seeing as how it's only under the tabletop level of paint quality, it won't get "tons" more definition. Also, the contrasts are far easier to see in person when not washed out by the flash of a crappy camera.

Well, here's the final pictures of the Warhound Titan, painted to tabletop standard. Hefty project, to say the least.

That looks hot:

Woah doggy, he's big.

Better make that arrow count, man of Bretonnia...

Well, hopefully I won't be doing anything massive like this again anytime soon, at least until I get an airbrush kit and a better camera. It's hard to do this wonderfully detailed model the justice it deserves without such tools. I couldn't take a picture of the pilot, for example, without a really bad shadow and flash combination. I'll work on that for the sake of showing the completed project.

Thanks for watching. I've started a new project painting 5 Eldar Rangers to look just like the ones on page 76 of the Eldar Codex (per customer request), and a 10-man unit of Kasrkin/Stormtroopers.

Wow! That turned out Great! I should come up and play a game of apocalapse with you to celebrate!

Too bad I will have to wait a while to see what a Pro-Painted version will look like . Let me know if/when you feel like tackling the other Titan!

Nice job!

I like all the little inquisition symbols on it. Really gives it a lot of character.

An airbrush kit really will cut your time down. There are some good inexpensive ones out there, just invest in a quality air compressor.
