I'm thinking of drafting a standard letter along the lines of

Professionally painted? WTF?

Was this painted by a blind man?
With a yard brush?
In the other room?

to send to these morons.

Or is this a great case of circular logic:
1. If I make money from performing a task, then I am a professional.
2. If someone buys my crappy work, I am making money.
3. Therefore I must be a professional!

LoL that is sad

IMHO anyone who pays to have thier models painted for them are losers. Most of the pride I have for my armies is the fact I painted and assembled all of them. Yes its time consuming but it is worth it.

Are these remarks really needed, while I personally would never buy a fully painted army. Having a (real) commissioned center piece for an army would be great.
And painting your own stuff is worth it no question, while time consuming you become that bit more involved in the hobby and the people. Just because you paint doesnt mean you have no social life.
Anyways.. It never ceases to amaze me what people try to hock on ebay, and the people that actually buy it.

QFT. I don't see what's so interesting about this auction. Dude's got a painted army, and it's about $250 worth of stuff. He IS correct that more stuff would go for more money, IF you got the right person involve, so there's a bit of hyperbole. (Or maybe not, anybody see the Nob Bikers or Victoria Lamb Grey Knight auction threads?)

The paint scheme ain't great, but it's okay for table top, for a huge horde of bugs. I've seen far worse, and with easier to paint armies.

I agree. Talking to people is pretty awesome.

I disagree. Learning how to talk to a variety of people about a myriad of topics is too time-consuming to be worth it. Why should I meet anyone if they can't talk about spacehams and their 50-page marien fanfic?

I stopped caring about ebay titles a long time ago.

The only person who really decides the quality of a model is the customer.

90% of ebay " pro painted" jobs are mass produced base coloured + dipped, or just awful. It's gotten to the point where I don't look at auctions marked " pro ", people painting to a good level generally steer away from that term.

Loving the hair btw. Fantastic final sales touch.

[edit] oh god the front:

If you get paid for your work, you can be called a professional (performed by persons receiving pay) instead of an amature (attached to a particular pursuit yet not receiving pay). Level of quality has nothing to do with it.

Now, you can definitely state that the work appears to have been done by an amature (and it does), but if painted by one who receives pay for painting, the work is "Professionally painted". Which is why you should always judge the quality of the work yourself, and never take someone else's word for it.

As to the worth of the lot, only the buyer can determine that. I'd give him a huge (x2) ham sandwich for it.

The dust, hair, and chips in paint are fantastic, I must say. I'd definitely pay extra for that kind of attention to detail. Its a bargain at any price.

Raah. This arguement drives me up the wall. The defintions of professional:

1. following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain: a professional builder.
2. of, pertaining to, or connected with a profession: professional studies.
3. appropriate to a profession: professional objectivity.
4. engaged in one of the learned professions: A lawyer is a professional person.
5. following as a business an occupation ordinarily engaged in as a pastime: a professional golfer.
6. making a business or constant practice of something not properly to be regarded as a business: “A salesman,” he said, “is a professional optimist.”

Just because you got paid once for painting half a dozen models does not make you a professional any more than getting paid 10 bucks to mow the neighbors lawn as a kid made you a lawn care professional.

Obviously you are pretty young and naive.

But don't worry, as age comes so will wisdom, and you might learn that accomplishing a challenging task can be more rewarding than trying to 'get laid' and 'party' with your 'new friends'.

Seriously dude, you shouldn't call somebody a loser because they have people paint their armies.

And SsevenN you shouldn't defend people who do. Your broad generalization is just as bad if not worse than the guy your capping on.

I think you are misunderstanding me.

Painting is a sign of maturity, commitment, skll, and a hand full of other great qualitys.

On the other hand, people who think life is all about 'making friends' 'hanging out' and 'scoring' are either very weak-minded, henceforth their need to express themselfs 100% socially, or young and naive. I gave the jerk who said that painters are 'losers' the benifit of the doubt and called him young and naive.

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

Did anyone else notice he misspelled "professionally"

He spelled it Professionaly.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

There is more to life than sex, when you get older and have had lots of it, you might realise this.

And if you think painting somehow negates ones ability to meet people and consort with them, then I'm right, you are naive.

Conversation is verging toward the slowed. Sex and a social life are not closed off by painting toy soldiers.

Not that the poster actually believes that, hes just looking to stir some crap and get some lols, as is pretty evident

Omg you are making me break my vow of sarcasm...

I know. I 100% agree with the "there is more to life than partying" (getting laid I dunno but ok ), you just didnt get the sarcasm in my original post. It isnt that I really think that in a hardcore way, its that I was making fun of how the poster thought it was a black and white issue, that people who have armies painted are lame.
