Lots of moaning in the comments!

Huge Robot has been confirmed as a future stretch goal and sounds like a military based stretch goal is coming up next.

This campaign is 38 days long so hopefully will give people a little time to recover from Bones 2.

Edit: goal 2 is now up and it's for 4 more poses for the human soldiers.

Project Update #3: Variety is the spice of life
Update #3 · Oct 4, 2013
Amazing work, guys!

That’s our first Stretch Goal blasted aside – this means that we have funded our set of four exclusive Topps Trading Cards.

We will make them available:

- As a Core Add-on for $15
- As a new Pledge Level for Card Collectors (this will be up shortly)!

These will tie in with the new Mars Attacks: Invasion trading card series from Topps – an absolute must-have for collectors and Mars Attacks fans. So what’s next, you ask?

$90,000 – US Soldier Upgrade

Currently, we’ve got our US Soldiers in four different poses – that’s two of each pose. However, wouldn’t it be much cooler if each trooper was an individual, so you have eight unique models to bring to the gaming table? We definitely think so! That’s why...

If we hit $90,000, we will upgrade the US Soldiers to have 8 unique poses.

Here's a sample:

Let’s see if we can hit the second Stretch Goal as quickly as we hit the first one!

Probably best to get the cards goal out of the way early anyway, when it's not needed to drive more dollars to the next goal. Hell, it was achieved with initial pledges, no pushing needed, probably satisfies a contractual obligation with Topps as well.

Not even an hour in and the complaining has started! Picked up the $140 EB I'm here for the modern US military stuff and the terrain anything else is a bonus as I'm actually not all that interested in Mars Attacks and the Martians themselves

Well.... $15 for 4 trading cards is a bit ridiculous. That makes privateers $10 set of 8 look like a bargain basement steal.

That's a really great point.

Now, what I would consider paying for is a reprinted set of the originals.....

updates 3 and 4 are a little broken. The link to 3 wasn't working, so I imagine they resent it... etc.

Shrug. Mantic's whole Kickstarter model (where good value is only achieved through more stretch goals) fosters this type of moaning and self entitlement, so it should be expected.

That's why I prefer to discuss them on Dakka. The conversation is always constructive and civil!

Cool head in a crisis
Update #5 · Oct 4, 2013
That’s our US Soldiers upgraded – wow! Thank you so much!

Up next, it’s time for more figures!

$100,000 – Ashley, FREE Character

Only daughter of an insurance broker father and a realtor mother, Ashley had a pretty privileged upbringing. She went to a good school, she was well-mannered and polite… she was planning her career before her sixteenth birthday. The invasion hit reached [her city] on the night of her senior prom, and all hell broke loose. She left her friends behind and tried to get home to her family, but by the time she got there her house was a smoking ruin. She didn’t allow herself to grieve. Falling in with a rag-tag group of survivors, her cool head and careful planning saved their skin on several occasions. She hasn’t forgotten about her family. Revenge is just something worth planning for.

If we hit this stretch goal, we will add Ashley to the Mars Attacks Boxed Game and pledges of The Will of Man ($100 and Early Birds) and up!

Let's do this.

A note on materials from James Hewitt in the pathfinders group:
Guh, just had a thought - the restic issue's irrelevant, because we're using a new material for Mars Attacks! It's the same stuff we're using for LOKA - if you've played the Gears of War board game, it's the same stuff they use. Bit more flexible than what we normally have (which makes better one-piece miniatures) but still very crisp detail and holds paint very well.

I'd like to say that there might be less moaning with no restic, but we all know that's not gonna happen.

Milestone Moments
Update #6 · Oct 4, 2013
Wow - $100,000!

Our original funding goal was $50,000, and you guys have doubled it in a little over an hour. Simply amazing. Thank you so much!!

Of course, that’s blown away another Stretch Goal.

Up next:

$115,000 – Martian Grunts Upgrade

If it’s good enough for the humans, you’d better believe it’s good enough for the Martians! Just like we did for the U.S. Soldiers, if we hit $115,000 we’ll upgrade the Martian Grunts with four new poses, meaning that all eight in the set are uniquely posed. Again, this will affect both the Martian Grunts Add-On and any that you get as part of your pledge reward.

Here's a sample:

With our ongoing stretch goals, you’ll see a mixture of new Add-Ons, upgrades to existing miniatures and other cool things… hmm, I wonder what this could be?

Looking forward to seeing the progress from my North Ameristralian brothers when I wake up tomorrow!

Just when they seem to have sorted their restic... if they've used it before and know it's good I'm happy. But I *did* like the sounds of the current formula from dreadball wave 3.

Has anyone here had any experience with the Loka pieces? Anything to compare them to? I haven't played the gears of war board game either, so the comparison above doesn't help. Are they like SED minis or what?

I found a review of the Gears of War Miniatures

" The final piece of the quality jigsaw for me with Gears of War is the miniatures. They're good. Not just board game good, but actual miniature wargame good. There aren't many mould line on the castings, there are no miscasts and the substance they're made from would be suitable for making wargaming pieces out of. The detailing is crisp and well defined. Its just a quality product. "

These minis seem to have pretty soft details compared to the Dreadball wave 3 ones. Not at my desk though so it's hard to tell.

Awesome, I can definitley live with that. I had just assumed they would be restic. I don't mind restic (don't love it either) but this sounds like something I might enjoy.

I just about made it to the Early Bird $90 Will of Man pledge.

Their countdown site sucked but I'm not moaning, I got what I wanted.

It works out (at todays rates) at £56. BARGAIN.

Anyways, when can I have my stuff?!

August 2014?

Or maybe a bit earlier?

I hope we get more terrain, and ways to cover up the holes in the existing terrain models.

The Gears minis are very similar to the Zombicide minis. I've you seen those and are happy with them, it sounds like you'll be happy with these too. They hold detail and paint really well.

Oh feth, they're doing the same crap that reaper bones is doing with the multiple core expansions stuff.

You can't buy the rubber mat without buying the trading cards, and the $140k stretch is a free mini with a jetpack but you only get it if you buy the rubber mat and the trading cards.

Yeah, except that your pledge already includes a certain value of "add-ons", so you don't have to add any extra money to get it.

So I pledged for the EARLY BIRD 6 - THE INVADERS ARRIVE package, might have to increase my pledge based on the stretch goals. Just need to find somebody to take everything but the Martians off my hands.

I suppose having less "free" addons given the flexible addon system (i.e. "$125" in addons) is more than fair. But I don't like this bundle nonsense. The mat and mini are appealing (and $25 is a fair price for both) but I'll actually be tossing those cards in the recycling, since I not only have no use for them but actually actively dislike them.

Yeah - I like it better this way. Instead of getting a bunch of crap in the main pledge that you might not want (remember all the fussy people asking to swap out their free teams in Deadzone for dupes of others), you get the base stuff and then XX dollars worth of add ons. YOU choose what you want your base pledge to contain, basically.
