I used to have an idea for doing futuristic vampires (probably counts as CSM or guard if I wanted to do hordes of undead)

Then Twilight came along. Now, I would rather die than mention vampires in any context.

Hmm For me it would be a race of sort of Victorianesque aliens. Airships and mechanical suits. Also has most of H.G. Wells imaginings in it such as tripods and other odd things. Would be very elegent models but with a terrifying feel to them. I would suggest them to all move as beasts. The line soldiers watch as the .... walk gracefully towards them and then as soon as they come in range they vanish and are suddenly in amongst the soldiers.
That sort of thing

So a Steampunk army. That would be visualy awsome, but I'm not sure if they'd provide any new dimension of play rule-wise. It seems like you'd end up with some kind of IG-Tau cross.

I'm having a hard time coming with an army that would have a different feal and style of play then is already covered.

I think a more elemental race is required. Something that doesn't rely on guns or suits of armor, but instead straight magic and element manipulation. Sort of like what Chaos can already do only, well, not Chaos.

Damnit I guess I didn't think this one through...

Whatever it is, it needs to be less humanoid.

Mostly everything has 2 arms and 2 legs.

I want to see a race of creatures with 4 armes and 4 legs, like a dryder. Why does everything in 40k have to have 2 arms and 2 legs? No more diversity left in the galaxy?

I'd honestly just make a Dogs of War book for the all non-imperial armies and then all the imperial stuff allowed to ally with itself.

It would just be cool to see a Dogs of War with Different Alien Species etc.. Just call it Xenos.

FIRST, The game desperately needs a lost and the damned or chaos cultist based army. This is one of the primary villains in the fluff, but is hard to represent on the tabletop. Counts as IG or counts as Orks or something sort of work but this really needs it's own army list.

SECOND, I would update all the current armies that need it, giving plenty of attention to the non-MEQ, non-imperial armies.

THIRD, I would do an ad mech army.

FOURTH, I would look at a non-humanoid army, because I agree that the game needs some less human-like alien races in it. Kroot as a full army, Hrud, etc.

A general Mercenary codex. Almost all races included (everything except 'Nids and the nastier Chaos stuff). A great way to show some alternative unit types (or RT unit types not seen anymore) for various races.

It'd be a great to bring back Squats on trikes. Some Blood Axe boyz, Humans in Space Marine and IG looted gear (or a full blown "lost" SM Chapter from several millennia ago) with varying degrees of competence. Ratlings, Eldar, competent Grot units, Chaos reformers, lost and/or broken Commissars, looted Necron troops with modified and reprogrammed parts (basically just Necron shells), Kroot, Tau that have broken away (possibly Chaos influenced), Baddruk and his Flash Git boyz. Freebooters from all the races with interesting heroes to boot...

Callum Raddick - Escaped IG convict that has built a tough human force using looted SM armor (SM Scout equivalent) with a bonus in CC.

Kruber Garsnik - Unconventional Ork with his band of Shoota boyz that have sacrificed CC for better BS and kustom shootas.

Grim Odenthorn - Squat triker with a furious charge and a burning hatred for all things of the Imperium.

Fath Cathsinger - Eldar scientist with her unit of Necron/hybrid battle androids.

Gavick Nullson - Reformed Chaos soldier and his boys.

Dembo Dookins - Ratling leader that uses his infiltration unit as true skirmishers in CC. Not great at dealing out wounds but fantastic at avoiding wounds.

Fesrick Noffer - Fallen IG Commissar that is now a very competent general and inspires units without assassination.

Ok, I got carried away.

There is an Imperial Guard regiment based on every historical army in existance; so why not ones modeled after Union Civil War troops? Mayby make their heavy bolters resemble civil war era gatlings. The blue trenchcoats are a must though. The lasguns would look similar to Mordian lasguns most likely.
Tau that fit the warhammer art style more would be nice; mayby explain them as being Farsights troops.

They actually have quite a list of races already in the 40 mythos that have never been fully explored. The ancient Slann, the Jokaero, Zoats (a tyranid bio/mind slave), the Ambull.

Personally, I wish that they would flesh out the Necrons as well as the Tau empire more.

As far as new races go, well, I think that the current rules for psycic powers are rather weak, and that they fail to give a truly psychic feel to the eldar, so maybe a new race that has NO guns at all, just psychic powers, would be interesting, and would help make the witch hunters army more viable.

There are many great ideas out there about interesting aliens in 40k. The main problem is how to create a new/revive an old race that looks good as an army of table top minitures. An army of sentient gas would be cool, but how would you model it? How many more different types of humans do we really need. Rock people, while entirely new, would make for poor models (everyone would just go out and glue some gravel together). We already have the necrons, to take the place as both "undead" and robots.

I second this one.

This race is by far the most talked about race in the 40k books/background/fluff that does not have any pictures or anything else for us to associate with them, other than they are considered by the imperium as one of the 'significant enough' threats to them.

oh wait, here is a pic I think provided by our good friend google.

Humanoid bug things, kind of like the Vespid. I like the idea of a mix between the Tau and Nids. "Hive" cities like Imperial Hive cities, but large honeycombed temples built to their queens. The variety of units would represent different aspects of an ant or bee colony (workers, warriors, queen, etc...). I know that nids function like to this to some extent (with the hivemind that is), but I'm thinking of a more unified structure. Since they have evolved technology into their lives the creatures would be more dependant on technology.

The fluff could kind of follow a quasi-Tau history that they have evolved relatively quickly, but at some point they felt that their society is in danger. The bugs could then start attacking local systems and spread their empire.

The creatures themselves could be based on earth insects (6 limbs, small thorax, feelers, whatever) and would have weapons that act like the Tyranids living weapons. The larger, more dangerous species could be based on bigger bugs.

Now that I think of this their basically like the ones off of Starship Troopers. Ok un-original, but different at least.

I wouldn't, people tend to hate it when you release new armies into a static universe, especially when they aren't wearing power armor.

See: Necrons, Tau, and to a lesser extent Chaos Daemons but that's mostly because people are pissed about the huge retconning of 20 years of Chaos fluff and splitting them from CSMs.

If done well, Space Dwarves would be awesome. Either as the new Demi-urge not-really-Squats, or as Squat refugees that escaped the Tyranids and are now trying to find a new homeworld. You could have a sort of Battlestar galactica feel, as they know they can't travel through space forever like the Eldar, but they need to avoid Nids, Orks, and even the Imperium (who clearly let them be destroyed rather than save them). Perhaps even selling them as tenous allies/competitors with the Tau on the eastern fringe would be neat.

As for game play, I see them as a mixture between sisters and Orks. Relatively high model count, T4, great wargear, solid leadership, better in shooting but solid in HtH. I like the idea of them using mostly imperial tech (the solid, well built stuff) that they've improved. No new real tech like the tau, but making improvements to STC stuff. No skimmers, but a heavy use of bikers for flanking and scouting. A good mix of mechanized infantry, artillery, and Hearthguard in exo-suits.

I'd really like a "building army" low model count with mediocre stats.

But each unit would have building capabilities, able to improve cover saves, create trenches, and specialist buildings, such as turrets medical bunkers(provide we'll be back to units within 12 inches of it?) Command bunkers etc.

they'd also have static buildings in the heavy support section that they could deep strike on the first turn, such as anti tank gun emplacements, Artillary emplacement etc.

actually I think that'd be a really nice style play list for the Demiurg. maybe have a 3 3 3 4 2 1 7 4+ stats.
