First time post And what better post than to show the paint scheme I chose for my orks.

I'm totally going against the grain and doing something new, I've seen a few non green orks but none really this skin tone color. But then again there probably has been one or two. I painted them the typical green before this and I just wasn't feeling it so I had to do something different. And I wanted the goblin green to be my main color, kinda like red is for the evil sunz clan. I also wanted my orks to have kind of a darker feel to them even though they are kind of a goofy army to play, I'm just more into a darker feel to my armies than all fluffy like I'm very new to the game and hobby so this is my first army I've ever painted, it's obviously got a few flaws here and there that I didn't even noticed until I look at the high res picture, the camera seems to highlight the errors more but to the human eye this guy looks pretty damn good, to me anyway. For a first timer I think I did alright, I'm actually very proud of my little guy! I was not feeling very proud of the typical green horde so I'm definitely sticking with this paint job!

I have a feeling I'm going to piss off a few fluff players Oh well. I know there are some really good painters on this forum so I would definitely love to hear some input on what I've got here, some suggestions would be greatly appreciated too! I do think I'm going to add some more color to the weapons, I might paint some green on choppa and a little black on it too to make it look a little better.

Always good to see differently coloured orks, only suggestion is to darken the green a little so the ork's skin stands out better.

See that's the problem with pictures, it really doesn't look that bright. I think it's just the flash that makes it stand out like that. I went over just about everything with a black wash and it made the green much darker than what it looks like in the picture. If I had a camera that could take a better picture I think you would be able to see what I'm talking about.

The first picture is a little closer to what it looks like than the other two. But still the camera makes it seem much brighter than it really is.

First one looks green to me.... all of them look green to me...

but they're reasonably well painted, it would seem.

They really look green to you? One of us might be color blind or have a monitor problem then lol

DnD orks are grey, and that's what these guys look like to me. I think it looks great on the model. You did a nice job of "staying in the lines." One down, 3659806945 to go.

That's a good tone for the skin. It's fleshy but more of a grey 'ogre' skin tone, not a human skin tone. Good job mate - keep it up.

I'm really surprised by the comments on my ork Thank you! I honestly was expecting people to be disgusted by it lol. I think he just needs a few touch up's here and there and he'll be ready for the table!

It's a little disorienting; I see the green and think "skin". That said, it's a nice paintjob - good work.

If I remember correctly aren't orks from Golgatha reddish brown due to the environment? I say brown works fine.

Well I'm really excited about the responses I'm getting Makes me very happy and a proud ork papa! I'm actually painting my Warboss at the moment so hopefully he turns out looking pretty good! I'm trying to get 500 points ready for a doubles tourney in August 1st, I figured that if I can get 2 Orks finished a day, very detailed and looking the best I can possibly make them I should be finished way before then and have a nice new unique army sitting on the table for the tourney!

This will also be my first tourney! It's a small one but there is also a painting contest so I'm going to work real hard on my Warboss and maybe I can actually take a prize in that one, that is if the judges don't have something major against the skin tone I decided with lol

I do believe that's correct. Fluff wise in the book, "Gunheads", the red colour of the dust on the planet turned the local orks a red/brown colour. So now you can give them a back history!

Very cool skintone- is it a mix of gray and dark purple with a black wash? I also like the rust drybrish on the weapons. Not crazy about the green clothing, though- it's a little too bold, IMHO, or maybe a little to close to the 'generic' orc color... I can't put my finger on it.

Awesome work though!

Thank you! The picture actually makes it look kinda purple but it's not really that purplely looking, I used a mix of 1 part scorched brown and two parts bleached bone to get the skin tone.

The picture also makes the green look bolder than it really does too It really does look WAAAYY better in person than it does in the picture.

The assumption that orks are green comes from countless sources training the mind of players to believe that this is truly fact. I enjoy seeing orks that are modeled outside this. Nice work I hope you will treat us to more pictures in the near future

I think I'm calling him done, I've spent a long ass time working on him. Might need a few touch ups here and there but for the most part I think he looks pretty damn good.

So without further ado here is my ork warboss!

I really dont see why people have problems with Orks being different colors. Firstly its the person painting thems idea of how to do it. Secondly, its fluff that 40k Orks are part fungi/plant and humanoid. So logically if made in an environment that is a different color then say... GREEN they would be close to that color.

Nice warboss man, Im digging your army alot. Keep it up
And as athba said, all Orks are equal.... except the bigger ones lol
