So I do a lot of forum reading, but not very much posting.

I am just curious I often see posts about where people state their record with a particular army with ridiculous rates of victories. I live in area that has a lot of 40k players, but everyone loses a fair amount of games and a lot of us are the same skill level. Being that it is the Internet their is no good way to verify if these people are pulling your leg.

Is their ever a point when you should call out folks on this? Then just taking it for granted they are say 56-1-1 with say their Orks.

Also curious can people tell me their tales of someone that just dominates their local store, because where I am no one dominates like the records I see on the Interweb.

-Cheers

I've always wondered why everyone has more wins than losses too. Wouldn't believe it at all personally.

Shouldn't your record be 666-0-0 come on now.

I cba keeping track of my record.

I've lost more than I've won AND drawn combined.

I'm not in it for the wins. I play for the chance to see my toy soldiers on the table against someone else's.

Although, my sig is fairly accurate for it.

Ppl that post their win record have a high chance of making the numbers up (since they care enough to post it)

Normally people wont care about it.

I wont speak against doing so though , because the
end of the day, its just a game.

My friend only ever lost 2 matches (team ups not included). 1 was when he 1st got his guard. 2 was when he 1st got orks (I just beat him). Since then he has never lost. It is the clubs goal to defeat his wellversed army with our own various lists.
He came first in the Conflict tournment 40k, and 1st in Fantasy (massacres all the way)
I am a witness to his awesomeness.

Me? I lose more often than I win.
Mainly becuase I choose fluff over effectiveness.

I used to post my record just to be funny. I never lied on it since my losses were in the double digits and my wins were about less than half that. And then I got sad because I just kept losing and decided I'd stop.

I've played about 10 games total minus about 3-4 which were 2v2 or 3 way games (I dont count them in wins / losses as its not really feeling like me vs an enemy straight up).

I think I've had 1-2 wins, 1 loss and rest draws. The numbers you see on peoples sigs are either because they are awesome players, or they make them look good to hope their posts carry more sway on the internet and others look up to them. Ofcourse not everyone's is a lie, some may be true.

EXAMPLE

Its like when you buy a mcdonalds, 2 burgers and a chip... for the sake of argument we'll include a coke.

You can eat it all then boast to your friends '' dude/man/chum/homeboy/Jim (Delete as appropriate) I just ate 2 burgers there from mcdonalds no problem all gone and in my tummy.

Now they will be impressed and say '' no way thats mad etc''

the thing is, those burgers may have been the kids ones, and not two big macs or Qtr pounders... the question is do you want to be honest on which two burgers you ate... or will you play it off and let them believe you achieve more than you did.

That people is the problem in society.

Honestly I have not lost since i've been at university (almost 4 years now) and only drawn 2 times, played almost every week over that time period, I make a point of not publishing it as its a bit unbelievable (something like 200-2-0) and yeah everyone at my store makes my army the one to beat, its become pretty savage with folks optimizing thier armies to kill mine (just faced a dark angels army with 14 heavy plasmas and 4 lascannons). the point is that until my LGS moves away from MEQ I can't see myself losing (I play templars, ligntning claw marshal and lightning claw termies), As it stands in a game biased towards close combat, and a store full of MEQ, the stabbiest MEQ wins, which would AFAIK be templars. Have just started (3 games so far) playing orks and they have come a lot closer to losing than my marines ever did but they have still clocked 3 wins (this is most likley because i've included a lot more toys that i like but arent hugely effective in the ork army such as SAG and burna boyz and deffcoptas). Anyway my point at the end of this was that sometimes you can have an army that just stomps over opponents because of what they choose to use and how they use it relative to your army (incedentally i get a lot of preferred enemy grumbling).

My record is pretty good overall. So far in 5th I'm like 24-1-2 (roughly). I think one thing to keep in mind when you see someone with a high victory rate is that it's not necessarily indicative of just their gaming skill but also their opponents...

I know back in 3rd Edition when KOS was going strong I went almost 2 years and only lost one game. My army was good and I knew how to play it, but I was amazed at how my regular opponents just didn't seem to adapt their tactics. They'd literally bring the same stuff and do the same things and then complain the list was unbeatable. It clearly wasn't, but in the local meta game context it certainly seemed to be... So sometimes it's the opponents that fluff the numbers in addition to the player...

I also recall a guy that played in our "junior league" to "help teach the kids"... the reality was that he got tired of getting whooped on and went and bullied the youngsters to boost his ego... Some folks have no shame...

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

A few years ago I was winning a whole lot of games, and had a very good record.

I went 3-1 at the Adepticon Gladiator, 2-1 at the Adepticon Championships and then after that I really started winning. I went 4-0-1 at the Las Vegas GT and 5-0 at the Baltimore GT. I won the Los Angeles region of the ‘Ard Boys, as well as winning a lot of local RTTs. You would be surprised at how many people came up to me after I beat them that told me they never lost with that army before.

There is a concept of being a big fish in a little pond. That means that in their local group/game store they are the alpha male and the best player. So there is a good possibility that they are not lying about their records if they never venture out of it. Now if they do venture out of it and try to be a big fish in a big pond, and have a winning record in national events, then I would be more impressed.

Also the original poster said that he did it with orks leads me to think that it may be true.

I agree with Thunderjaw.

For me, it's also largely army dependent. My Wood Elves are 9-0-1 this year, but my Orcs and Goblins are 0-12.

Similarly in 40K if you play Marines or Orks and your regular opponents play Sisters or Dark Eldar, it's really not a surprise if your record is 240-1-1 or something.

I never really paid much attention to win-loss records. You'll figure out pretty quickly who the good players are by the advice that they give.

I wouldn't sweat what people post about their win-loss records. Blackmoor also has a really good point about the "big fish in a little pond" situation.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Just to echo two of the above posters- I rarely if ever lost in 3rd edition playing black templars locally. They were just too good in assault, and the other armies weren't geared to beat it. I got a lot of complaints and actually kind of burned out from it, because it just seemed like my army could not lose! That's not a lot of fun, either :/

I just got back into the game with Tau, and have only played 3 games in 5th edition, getting a draw, a win, and a loss. All three games were close

So it's not impossible for someone to have a really high win ratio, but at the same time it's not something that's much fun either, imho. I would never go back to that army personally... too many complaints and too many wins that seemed to happen just because my marines fell forward and basically could not be stopped :-/

Since I started playing Salamanders in January I've been to 3 Indy GT's (5 game tournaments) 3 RTT (3 game tournaments) and played every Monday in a weekly gaming league with a couple of other pick up games.

In my first Indy GT I went 2-2-1, the second I went 3-1-1, and the third I went 3-2. In the three RTTs I've gone 7-0-2 winning two of them. This means that over half of my losses with Salamanders have occured when playing against people in a GT.

The league I play in has swiss pairings and works on the massacre, major victorty, minor victory scoring system. So I might spend 3 weeks making it to the top of the standings only to end up drawing or losing a game and thenhave to spend the next 3 weeks winning 3 more games to get back up to the top only to lose or draw another game.

I also end up playing deamonhunters & Tau every now and then but don't track wins & losses with them as it is very infrequent when I play them. However I don't think I've won with my tau since 2008.
