I don't hate the new daemonettes but I'd prefer to buy the old ones. Contacting GW a little while ago I was suprised to be told:

"No, we stopped making those." GW telesales guy
"But you have the old metal ghouls that you discontinued many years ago in the 'collector's minis', how can you have no Diaz daemonettes left?" me
"We have none left at all, can't help you, was there anything else?" GW guy
"Is there any chance you have some in storage? Is there an indy retailer you sent any out to that might have some still?"
"No.Try ebay." GW telesales guy

So I've been looking and watching on ebay ever since. There are old style daemonettes there, the vast majority selling for a large amount and many, even with selective undercoating and photos, are obviously poorly reproduced copies. Don't get me wrong, since GW were so blindingly unhelpful, I'd consider reproductions but the quality may well be dire and can't be relied on.

By why the whole 'blackout' on these older daemonettes from GW? Why if the demand is so great do we not see them brought back as collectors minis? Why the utter evasiveness from GW? Don't they realise there is profit to be made with these models?

It's odd that GW would censor the Daemonettes, seeing as every 12-year-old boy is obsessed with boobs. I'd have thought GW would jump on an opportunity like this.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The funny thing about it is what they have now isn't exactly any better. Think about it from a parent's point of view...naked, multibreasted supermodels in seductive poses, or one-breasted hermaphrodites with androgynous features and kinky leather.

Honestly, I don't think anyone's changed their mind. Most (or all) of the parents who used the nudity as an excuse to not let their child play will still have hangups about the game in general, so why GW even bothered with the redesign in the first place is beyond me.

Its not about that. GW shelled out bucks to make the new Fugly demonettes. Leaving the incredibly better metal ones available would reduce those sales substantially. Their margins would be impacted.

I can understand it.

Moral of the story? Don't make craptacular plastic minis.

The diaz ones, whilst lovely sculpts, didn't really fit the IP from what I've heard.
They were a bit too generically "sexy" evil fantasy demon compared to the classic lobster claw version. You'll note that the 'letters and the fleshhounds both reverted to older visualisations as well-- which i much prefer but obviously YMMV.

Given the vast increase in royalties paid to GW this year for games using their IP, and given the continued success of the BL print line it makes sense, from a business perspective anyway, to maintain a tight grip on your IP as it is worth a considerable amount to them, especially in cost to profit ratio.

... It's not like GW are having a clamp down on abuse of their IP or trying to get everyone to focus on their own website of late right ?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Yup. They actually sold out weeks before they were supposed to go out of production. How do I know? Because I actually tried to order them once I heard they were going OOP... No luck.

Well, if you were smart enough to record the conversation, I'd take that as tacit endorsement of counterfeit recasts by GW.

BTW, if it makes you feel better, I *just* bought a set of 10 on Bartertown for less than retail.

Maybe they'll re-introduce them at a higher price in a few years from now in their collector range. Build up a demand and then sucker punch the gamer for $30/fig.

I just thought that meant that GW is creatively bankrupt and they are just rehashing old models to seem like they are doing something different and new, all the while saving development time.

It does not matter to them that in some cases the newer models are far superior to the older ones they are duplicating.

Gonna miss those models. If I collected daemons I'd seriously consider making my Diaz Daemonettes, or at least less fugly ones, somehow...

I really prefer seductive daemonettes than daemonettes that look like they'd force you to the ground, ride on you, and finally eat your genitalia before clawing out your throat.

I guess I'm just not Grimdark enough.

I thought it was initially something to do with perhaps recieving complaints about the boobs, but then I thought to myself 'thats silly'.

I dunno... I really liked the old Daemonettes, they were great models, & just looked 'right' for what they were supposed to be in the fluff.

As I have stated many times in many different 'most hated model' threads, the new plastic daemonettes are gash & would definitely put me off doing a Slaaneshii daemon army.

I really doubt it's about the breasts. I have a feeling it's as simple as GW wants to sell the new plastics, as Frazz said.

I mean, while they were a pain to assemble, the Diaz Daemonettes were pretty universally known as some of the best minis GW has ever made. Replacing them with anything was going to lead to disappointment.

I don't think he needs (or the board wants) any help.

The reason I mentioned my Btown deal above is because I only bought 10 out of 20 - there should still be another 10 available... If you had immediately jumped on Btown to find my deal, instead of poking, it's possible that the other 10 might still be available... OTOH, if some other Dakka caught the hint, you may have just missed your best chance at them...

Perhaps saying or pming 'hey, just picked up 10 and there's 10 more left' might have been more useful than engaging /gloat mode and taking offence when I joked about it?

You and I both know how things go with these models. If I say "there's 10 more left", unless you're the first one to see the reply, they're gone by the time you read it.

My guess is that they must have had some issue with them to have removed them from the range entirely including the mounted versions.

Otherwise the mounted versions would still be for sale. I mean don't you think it's odd that they would stop selling a model that has no replacement for no reason? Keeping in mind that even if GW were producing new cavalry that they sell the old models up until the moment they release the new ones.

Damned shame. The Daemonette Cav models were beautiful sculpts. Glad I got three units of 6 before they vanished. I still need 3 more Daemonettes though to make that final full unit. Serves me right for not checking and buying the wrong amount of blisters.

My FLGS still has boxes full of the old ones in the storeroom. There were no Word Bearer or Emperor's Children players around, so they went unused. When Codex: Unnecessary came out, they sold like hotcakes. I was too late, and not even the best online store had them in stock.

Having said that there is a competitor who's D cav fits and is actually quite superior. Unlike Kid Kyoto my searchfu is weak and can't find a link. They are awesome. Fortunately the need for PG level minis and GW's eminent nerfing of demonettes in V5 makes purchasing a moot point.
