It's not really worth getting upset about. I was hoping for some more superheavies being released in plastic form - not that I would buy them as I don't like superheavies. Just would've been neat. Something Eldar or T'au but BIG!

I was expecting them to release something I wasn't going to buy and something that I would be disapointed by. And I was right!
Even with money off at MG and other online retailers, a lot of GW stuff is a bit steep in price for me to buy until it his ebay and I can buy someones badly painted army for a few £, strip and repaint it (possibly equally as badly ).
Unless they release something that is mind blowingly anazing, I am not going to buy it from them. A new SH was not amazing enough for me to buy. I will keep my old edition that I have never played with the first time round.
£60 for a board game with, for me, limited appeal (especially when I have a version of it already) is not going to make me want to part with my cash. Especially since I don't really like the models all that much (and I really don't want BA either).
Perhaps if it was in the region of the cost of other board games I might have bought it. They have a wealth of standard models that they could have used for the game to bring the price down. Plus you would have been able to model them yourself, rather than having the same poses as everyone else who buys the game.

To be honest I am not sure. All I know is that an almost carbon copy of something that they realsed a decade or more ago does not constitue mind blowingly amazing.
Especially when, as I said, I have the original.
I think perhaps the only thing I might consider as so amazing might be some kind of really good GW D&D game (I know they have Inquisitor etc, but eh). If they did it in 28mm, you can use all your existing models to represent play as well.
Use the relatively open "class & race" system of D&D, just set it in the 40k universe, so you are not so limited in the way I understand you can be in Inq.

Gorka-Morka was a box set out like some 10 years ago which pitted orks against orks. It was pretty cool actually and a GREAT buy for the time! If memory serves me in one G-M box you got (I forget, 1 or 2) Trukk(s), Boyz and 5 Bikes! Pretty much a abttleforce. But you also got cardboard cutouts for terrain and rules and such.
As for Space Hulk, I remember the game fondly from 20 years ago playing it. I still have my old plastic tyranid warriors which came with it and only just recently sold off my terminators. This new box? Well, I might buy it for one reason: it's cheaper than buying the models themselves.
8 Stealers in a box is $30 USD. 24 = $90 USD. 'Stealer Broodlord = $20 USD So $110 just for the 'nids. Granted, you get 2 less in Space Hulk, but you also have a bunch of terminators you can either FeeBay or trade away here or on Batertown.
So, I will very likely buy it. If anything for the models. Am I Overly impressed with it and rushing to the store to pre-order my copy? no. Will I get it for nostalgia value and some cool, unique models? Sure. But if it was any more expensive I def. wouldn't buy the game.
I also need to hear about the rules and how it'll work first. If they made a new ruleset from the regular 40K universe than GW can forget it. I plan to use it to help teach /some/ of the rules of WH40K

Fairly sure it will have rules that bear no resemblance to 40k, they've pretty much already said that it's based on the old Space Hulk rules...

I too felt it was silly to deny it was space hulk when it was pretty obvious from early on.
I was hoping for something I had never seen from GW (as they were saying they would). Maybe a new form of playing 40k/fantasy (ie movie marines or something like that which gives a new spin to the game setting but allows you to use the same models). Instead we get a money grab rehash of a game I have no real interest in. I don't have a problem with space hulk itself, but it just isnt new and I got my hopes up. Why not release a new board game with different races or with options to replace the races that come with the game with your own models?
I personally find the fantasy flight warhammer fantasy board game much more interesting and worth spending the money to check out. The 4 powers of chaos fighting risk style over a world with playable magic cards, and a complex win system with each chaos power a unique playing experience that is based around each of the god's strengths(tzeentch gets more magic cards, nurgle is a more win over time style, etc). Something like that is what the mystery box should have been.

All snarky sarcasm aside, I honestly didn't expect anything. The whole 'Mystery Box' thing was such a load of nonsense, especially when consider that we first heard about a re-done Space Hulk over 6 months ago, that there was no surprise to it.
They release Space Hulk again, but so what really? Was it worth all this pathetic misguided attempt at hype? They haven't released anything earth-shattering. There's no new army, no new game (actual new game), no new production process, they didn't announce the formation of a new Forge World-like studio for Fantasy products (as was reported a day or so ago).
They just released Space Hulk. Again. Again again.
Sure, it's a very nice Space Hulk and I pre-ordered it instantly, but it could have been so much more.

Warhammer Armies: Dogs of War comes to mind fairly readily...

This seems contrary to the general view so far in this post, but I am pretty excited about this and am going to get me a copy. Saw an original copy of SH on ebay, complete I admit, but going for $199. Would rather pay $99 and piece the rest together if I can.. same with Talisman. I picked up the remake that GW put out a few years ago. That was even more "rare" than SH. At the time, if memory serves, there were approx. 50 stores in the US. Each store got 12 copies and that was the ONLY way to get the game. It wasn't available online, so there were only 600 copies released in the US. I happen to have gotten one, and figure the re-release of SH will "even" out my collection...
Peace,
RennyD
P.S. Another consideration is that I have been playing GW products since 1982, so I relish these board games.. would LOVE to see a "new" issue of Chainsaw Warrior.. my copy is certainly well worn.

I wasn't expecting anything they really hadn't done before. I took it for what it was, hype. It's classic corporate publicity speak from the same kinds of people who promise that their upcoming release will "change everything".
I'm not really surprised it was Space Hulk, that's pretty much what I figured it would be. Maybe I just read that "something we've never done before" just boiled down to a limited run boxed game, which I don't recall them having done before. Yes denying it was Space Hulk was silly, but sometimes that's what you get with corporate policies that limit what you are allowed to say about something and what date you are allowed to disclose it. While I enjoyed 1st edition space hulk I wasn't yearning for it's return.
I think it certainly is a failure of imagination on GW's part but the marketing plan may have developed after plans for the game were being put into place. Someone thought the "Mystery Box" idea would amp up interest in a way that another marketing strategy might not have. I think it was a poor choice that was only going to lead to alot of disappointment from people wanting something other than a new Space Hulk box. They could have attempted to do something new and innovative, but that's not really their history. Corporations are bad at innovative thinking, big risks can cost a corporation's shareholders alot of money so most corporations prefer to take smaller risks with more reliable return on investment. I don't think they are really going to suffer a backlash on this though. I think the game will sell out, which may encourage them to do other big splash limited releases in the future but not at a given time frame, just whenever they decide to it. Space Hulk has the advantage of being self-contained, it can exist without expansions which makes it perfect for something like this. I'm not sure what other products they have that would sell as well and exist without expansions in the way that Space hulk can.

I'll hold me opinions on the game itself, until I lay hands on it and give it a good read. As far as the 'Mystery Box' goes, I was really hoping for something a bit more 'new/never done before', such as a new Thunderhawk, titan, etc. I can't say I was suprised, I mean, we are dealing with GW.
