I have not seen this elsewhere so I thought it might be worth a post. Got it in an email from a friend who appears to have gotten it directly from a GW email.

Looks pretty sexy to me. I don't see a vermin lord or a doomwheel anywhere, but there is a big ugly in the back. I'm guessing it's the big ass tunneling rat we've heard about.

SoCal, USA!

See, now that's just a great cover: massed rats, hero, warpfire, poison, and greyseer... Awesome!

And so much better than the IG - even though Skaven are hordely-fighters they still can have focus on what is clearly a Skaven front and center of the cover...

I just hope the skyre stuff doesn't get another boost, but the weaker parts of the list do, so that all of the main clans get a look in.

I like the swarm look to the cover art... only problem is that the leaders are in the front rank.

What sort of non skaven tom foolery is this?

Everyone knows the best place for a skaven warlord is in the back, urging the rats on.

The Skaven releases have been looking pretty boss so far. I can only hope they do same with TK.

Just noticed, they're fighting on a living carpet of rats, nice.

Finally, after the utter horror that is the new clanrats, a light!

The cover is gorgeous, not only that, it hints at what to expect in the book:

Large rat creature, tick!

Second option for bell...giant censor...tick!

Better clanrats....(ruleswise) ticks!

QUEEK! Tick!

Rat Ogres PWNSOME! Tick!

That? Is fake. It is a recolor of a imperial fists picture.

Not a real improvement on the last (current) cover, which was/is pretty awesome anyway. But don't judge a book by its cover...! (sorry)

Awesome. I still see pistols on the warlord, which is good. I hope ranged rats remain viable, and pure horde is not the only option.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I really like the current cover because the Skryre art is very well done and evokes a sort of bizarro evil Rats of Nim feel. This one is just as well done. I think I'm leaning towards the current one though, I just like the "evil technology" look over the feudal Japanese army gone wrong Warlord clan look.

Are Skaven the most technologically advanced race in Warhammer?

I wouldn't worry. He has trouble with numbers higher than he has fingers, so Skaven are certainly not his thing.

More or less. I haven't read the current background, but I think from the models you see that they're much more advanced than the Empire; they have gatling cannons and giant hamster wheels that shoot lasers, for crying out loud.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Yes they are , especially the Warp Lock Engineers ... their technology and equipments are so advanced and powerful
that their attacks rivals magic o_o....

They build robots:
They have battery back packs and glasses that can see energy waves

I swore to my gaming club that if a new army book came around before 8th edition, I'd speak in Skaven for the entire day of release! Oh boy, this is going to be fun. Neek-neek!

I hope they don't. I'm sick of seeing 2-3 cheap casters and several ratling guns accross from me each game (at 1000 points). Its no fun.

H.B.M.C. wrote:Are Skaven the most technologically advanced race in Warhammer?

I guess so, however "advanced" they are they kill just as many of their own people with their wepons. Their most reliable gun still has a chance to kill the shooter if it fails.

Empire has gatling cannons and rockets as well. Skaven derive most of their power from dangerously radioactive "warpstone", which as I understand is supposedly dark magic that became so heavily concentrated it gained physical form. They consider technology and magic generally interchangeable and so their "technology" is mostly technical adaptation of magical energy(which is almost always warpstone powered).

Yes, but in return they're also the most unreliable. The Empire is progressing, and it's stuff works as intended (for the most part). Dwarves have some better Rune-Tech pieces of gear, alongside better built rifles, but are stagnating. Skaven have high-powered rifles (enough to kill people on the other side of walls ALA Ambassador Chronicles), "Grenades" that range from Poisonous Gases to sucking people into the Chaos Wastes, Rat-portable Gatling Guns, Rat-Portable Flamethrowers, Energy Cannons, Holograms (far-squeeks), some sort of WMD underneath Middenheim, pretty sure they have some sort of "train" system along a couple of their more frequent paths...

But just about all of it blows up: only their pistols and the Jezail-rifles can really be considered "reliable". A bunch of their weapons are lethal to just stand in the presence of for too long a time (Warp Lightning Cannons), and just about everything they make is completely reliant on Warpstone. Warpstone supplies disappear, Skaven military might (or at least parts of it) and society collapses completely.

As much as a nearly anarchic self-consuming society can so be called and still be considered capable of collapsing further.
