Hey guys im just starting Death Guard and
don't have the codex or enything but I
want to make an army list first. Since I
don't have a codex I don't know the upgrades
you can give your guys so I didn't say
enything like mark of nurgle or nurgles
rot because I don't know what can have
that stuff which is why I want you guys to
tell me that kinda of stuff to take.
Consider these purchases a base for you.
**** means I really want this. without means I dont know if I can squeeze that in to a point amount. Can someone tell me what point game this army would fit into as I dont have a codex. I dont wonna know individual stuff just the overall like this is a 1750 list, this is a 2000 list. Thanks
2x7 Plague Marines w/ 1 Meltaguns each, 2
Aspiring Champions w/ Powerfists and
Plasmapistols w/2 Rhinos w/ extra armor
****
2x Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasmaguns
****
2x(14) Plague Bearers
****
3 chaos vindicators w/ daemonic possession
****
Daemon Prince of Nurgle with Mark of Nurgle and Wings (Nurgle's Rot?)

Well, I'd start with three units of PM each of which with 2 special weapons of same type mounted in a Rhino, one Nurgle DP, and 4 to 6 Obliterators.

did you read the list? I dont wonna take a prince because they are fire magnets. I just wonna guy to jump around and harass. Also doing so would allow me the points to take 3 vindicators

i would suggest picking up the chaos space marines codex first.
also i agree with that wuestenfux said
also mark the daemon with nurgle which would make him toughness 6 and then give him wings and warp time
then get him into close combat as quick as possible
if you take 4-6 obliterators they should beable to give him some good covering fire while hes moving towards the enemy

I'll echo the choir here and say 1) Getting the codex will help a lot and 2) Although a DP is a fire magnet,T6 wll help a great deal in keeping him alive. Jump pack lords running around sounds like fun until a single stray lascannon or melta insta-gibs him. You could protect that lord by putting him with a raptor bodyguard but then you're sinking more points into him.
If you're worried about cost, hop on The War Store or Maelstrom Games and take a look at the pricing there.

Spawns suck.
Spawns and Obliterators cannot have nurgle upgrades.

If you're doing a Death Guard list, as opposed to generic Nurgle, then Typhus, Death Guard, Possessed with an Icon of Nurgle, some Lesser Daemons, a Land Raider, Rhinos, and some Vindicators sounds just about right.

Switch Defliers to vindis, 1 prince to rot, and 1 PM squad to flamers and Lord Loss has given you a great list.

Defilers are Great and far superior to Vindicators.
While Vindicators have 24" range Defilers have 72" as well as STR 10 Close combat weapon and fleet.
But switching a fleet to rot and some flamers wouldnt be bad.

@Lord-Loss:
They are different, I wouldn't make the sweeping comment that one is better than the other.
Vindi's are have enough str. to insant kill T5 dudes, which is rare but worth it when it happens (a la Ork Warboss). In addition it 'can' be used as an anti-tank platform, that str + 2D6 pick highest is real nifty.
Now:
Vindi's have better front worse side armor.
Dread is no better it only shifts the front armor to the saide evening things up.
Vindi has shorter range, ofset by stronger shot, the defiler is the opposite.
Vindi's are easier to get cover saves, while defilers are usually ass to get cover saves.
Defilers can get into combat, Vindi's can not, it's real easy to see the pros and cons of getting into combat or not.
You can either see getting locked and not being shot at as a pro.
Or
You can see being not locked in combat and able to do other stuff as a pro as well.
Defilers do get 2 areas they are superior at:
1. they are unique to chaos.
2. they have more weapons so weapon destroyed results are not 'that' bad.
Essentially, they work differently and require different ways of usage, netiher is better than the other, they are both good at what they do.
My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

My plan for the vindis/defilers (tell me which would be better for this) is to support my offensive PM squads as they advance in rhinos to cap objectives. If you want to know more about my tactics check out Fritz's DG Tactics he explains it well.

Defilers are better at giving offensive support as they have superior range and can enter CC themselves if your Plague marines are in trouble.

Honestly, I love vindicators and defilers. I run 1 of each at 4000+ points (along with oblits and 2 LR's). Depends how you wanna go, however. Death guard fluffwise would make more sense to run Vindicators (they're a shooty army). If you wanna have fun, and kick a lotta ass, 3x defilers would be the way to go.at 450 points, getting 3 STR 8 ap 3 large blasts a TURN is insane. Vindicators are great as well, but they are better at siege style fights (with a lot of mech or towers). Its really up to you one way or the other. If you go Vindicators, only run 2. Defilers, more the better as they die pretty quickly.

well i kinda want them to camp for the game near the PMs (see Fritz's DG tactics) and just unleash on the obj cluster until turn 5 when my PMs move in to CC to contest. So I thin I'll go with 3 Vindis

@ locbot
It seems to me that your slightly confused as to what you'd like to include in your army,so I'll attempt to help some.
First bit of advice, don't look to codex CSM to help you with the formation of a Death Guard army, that pile of gak will only confuse the issues, use it only for FOC purposes.
Secondly, through out this thread you have recieved some good advice concerning HQ,troops choices,as well as heavy support choices (this seems however to be the point at wich your torn).
Both vindicators and Defilers are good HS,and basicly it's going to depend on your style of play as to what you will find more beneficial, I lean towards vidicators for my own Death Guard,as I play more to shooting.
Also,if your playing a "fluffy" Death Guard list, you may want to include some terminators,as the Death Guard, more than any other legion made use of terminator armour, that however would be entirely up to you ,since the current CSM codex offers no real Plauge terminator option.
Lastly,if your interested in learning more Death Guard tactics, modeling, force orginization, etc, I recomend the Legio Morbidus section of Bolter & Chainsword, google it and check it out.
Good luck with your army.

Well if you ever decide to buy termis (Bday money, whatever), go with Space Marine packs. Why? Because they are much more viable, you can convert em easily (throw some chain and spikes on em), and they get lots of weapons. I buy Assault Termis and convert em all the time. The fact you get 5 pairs of LC's a box is awesome, plus the storm shields/hammers sell pretty well to other players (as you will never use em).
I play with 5x assault termis, twin LC's, Mark of Nurgle, 3x champions. It EATS thru troop choices as you basically get a mark of khorne on 3 models, are far harder to hit with power weapons, and you get an invun. Its pro I tell you!

The left over thunderhammers & shields won't be of much use to you unless you A) convert them to some other sort of cc wepon, or B) trade them for some other sort of wepons ( I'd go with option B ),as Chaos can not use thunderhammers & shields.
As for converting AoBr terminators into Death Guard terminators,it's quiet easy, file of the Imperial markings, add a few GS pustules and boils,PVA glue a bit of fine sand here and there, prime and paint in suitable nurgle fasion.
