I either missed it, or else no one has praised GW for telling us in advance that a product
that they're selling is going to be unsupported in the future. In the day of the hobby
boardgame being supported by both hard and soft expansions, GW doesn't tease us
with the possibility of supporting the boardgame, they just tell us it's limited edition and
that's it.

For some people, that HAD to have saved them the bother of 100 dollars. (I think
Gonads didn't buy it for this reason alone)

Right?

GW does fumble a lot of things. That's not the fault of the Internet.

If nothing else I do have to praise them for at least being upfront about that. In fact I wish they'd do it more often, I get tired of their constant beating around the bush about the Dark Eldar release and the treatment their Specialist Games all received.

Space Hulk doesn't need supporting.....its complete as is!

Even if you bet bored playing the 12 missions they set you, its not difficult to set up your own missions. Hell, even the rules can be manipulated to suit different races (yes, this was one of my belly aches early on, and it wouldbe nice if GW did it all for me...but hey!)

I think it's because many people on these boards would rather choke on their own members than say something good about GW.

As for myself, well, I already have Genestealers, Terminators, and Space Corridors, so the whole Space Hulk thing is a bit of a non-issue. It's nice that GW did it, but not really relevant to me personally.

To be honest, i think people were expecting something of this quality, the fanbase for hulk is huge.
and for once GW sets a new high for the quality of thier models.
Allthough, it does make me wonder why theu use different colour plastic lol, either way, paint sticks to it just as good.

Now GW have fethed themselves.
People will be expecting this sort of quality from them all of the time, not to be cruel, but there are only a few of thier designers that can keep this quality.

All in all: I think it was amazing, but the LTD edition bit may have actually helped them.
Sure, they could have been selling them for years to come, but the sudden influx of revenue brought about by the kit had to be pretty nice.

The different coloured plastic is so you can easily distinguish between the pieces if you're not inclined to paint them. It's a board game.

Pretty nice but also pretty annoying as loads of folks have bought copies 'for the attic' as a little future earner, which annoys me as there are people who will miss out on a copy at a fair price as a result.

I think the whole "Mystery Box" idea made people angry at GW. I love Space Hulk, but its success will spawn even more Mystery Boxes....crap.

In fact these sets did not even make it to the attic it would seem, Ebay is now full of split up space hulk bits at STUPID prices, and sealed copies of the game starting at £89, buy it now £200, curse you limited release.

Yeah, I don't think so...but whatever makes you feel better.

I'm not biased, I'll praise GW when it's well deserved. Another good thing they've done lately is the IG FAQ, it answers some of the most pressing questions about the IG codex. The only thing I can see that they didn't really clarify was whether or not a valkyrie's wings count as the hull, other than that I personally have no complaints and think every FAQ should be as good as this one.

I'm also not complaining too much about the new codices, either, so long as they continue with this design philosophy and give all races in the game a codex as good as the SM/IG got.

I've complained about SH enough, but needless to say this is another thing that grates my nerves a bit: greedy people buying up multiple copies in an attempt to try and take advantage of people later on.

What, that's the best you've got? You ignored the rest of my post where I gladly praised GW for some other things they've done, and focused on the bit where I called you out on your sweeping generalization of the GW "haters", replying with a single smiley?

More correctly, they did not lie about that one facet of this release since they did "bend" the truth on other elements of the release.

I will withhold my praise for approximately five years, after which time I can be relatively certain that they were honest when they said "Limited Edition." Then I will say somethig along the lines of: "Hey, cool boardgame, G-dub."

Unfortunately theres a bit of a pond between me and your store but I take your point . My issue is that shulk has probably sold out even faster than it would have because of these ebay buy and break up sellers meaning folks who are out of cash for now but want one will probably miss out (my LGW sold half of thier 70 on the release day). All in all though we can't blame GW for that really, its the people buying them for ebay that are out of line.

Off topic a little, who thinks this could lead to new versions of other discontinued games, manowar, quest, a GW version of talisman (i know its been done but not with awesome minis) etc etc.?

Well, the game is being praised in the WD, too.

And this limited edition thing bothers me.
Buy it now or you will regret it.

WTF! Greedy people?!?! Where does that come from? Where's the "greed" in looking at a situation and trying to make an investment? Its just as likley that the set will be worth half its original price in a few years, its a risk that some people are willing to take, but to call htem "greedy" is a bit much I think.

Some people say it's a mere investment, I call it bold-faced greed.

Or at least it's greedy in the eBay link posted above, anyway. The game just came out and someone's already trying to take advantage of the limited nature of the game before the shelves are even bare. You can't look at that Buy It Now and claim that isn't outrageous.

Almost as bad as trying to sell a battleforce of Dwarves for $3000.

Somewhere in south-central England.

IMO GW should have organised the marketing completely differently.

Instead of their half-assed 'secret box' campaign they should have done a pre-order campaign, then produced the number ordered plus some extras to go into shops. They could have announced the game, given people a month to order it, closed the orders, then spent another two months making and shipping it.

That way everyone who wanted a copy could have been sure of getting it, and GW would have had an accurate idea of how big an order to place with their suppliers before starting to build the game.

It's good they are not doing any expansions, though I didn't know they had announced that.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
