How can you pronounce it like that?
My-crow-me-ter is the way for me... meter is the base measurement and micro/nano/pico the amount so that seems the logical way. It is just as wrong as saying klom-it-er instead of key-lo-meat-er - an affront to science
.

As you are British you mean the screw gauge not the metric measurement.

Therefore; "my crom it er".

This is confirmed by Collins Concise English Dictionary 21st Century edition.

Metre is the measurement of length.

Perhaps it is Meter in the USA.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Everyone in the US pronounces kilometer as kil-om-iter. Our previous leader pronounced nuclear as nuke-ee-ur. Oh well.

The unit of length is pronounced my-crow-metre.

The device used to measure things via a screw gauge is pronounced my-crom-eter.

as a chemist its mi-cro-meter for the measurement unit, and mi-crom-eter for the instrument, i once witnessed a lecturer rip a hole in to a 2nd year student for not knowing the micrometer is 10 to the -6 of a meter.

What about 'Iraq' or Iran'?

I say it 'I'rahk', not 'Ai-Rak'

same for 'Iran' - 'I'rahn', not 'Ai-ran'.
