I like the backpack flamer but it screams US marines in the pacific. I think the Brit weapons should have that rustic hand fitted 'british engineering' vibe. I say bring back the no2 portable 'life-buoy'

Sorta steam punk but clearly not, could make a really cool energy weapon type too.

It's only an illustration, not a render or a photo, so distinguishing parts is difficult. There will be five torsos per sprue for a box of thirty.

I agree with the suggestion for something inspired by the Boys Anti-Tank rifle.

With a little beefing up and maybe a few Bren gun elements added, it would make a decent autocannon.
Alternatively, it could be scaled down to a heavy sniper rifle, or have the barrel drastically shortened to make a grenade launcher.

I'm a little concerned that the bayonets will be too delicate. Thin blades like that are very liable to get damaged. I'd suggest slightly shortening them and making them a tiny bit thicker than shown in the picture, although you need to be careful that they still look practical for stabbing.

Finally, the new empire knights. It took GW only 25 years and a completely different company, but here they come.

Once again.... render concept image. Take a look at the bayonets of Grognards, they know.

It is probably a long shot, but I would love to buy just the horses. Good fantasy-sized warhorses are a rare find

Clearly, you need to put Landsknecht Ogres on them. Presumably two horses per Ogre.

I believe the best knights would be medieval human knights with a good ammount of helmet styles (Gothic, great helmet, plain, decorated) and weapons (Swords, lances, twohander hammers, twohanded swords).

One could arguee for scifi bits but I cannot see those horses mixing well with scifi stuff, the hourse should change too much.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Have already done so at the WGA blog under my Dakka Dakka user name. Just waiting on post approval.

About 2.5 weeks ago, the WGA blog posted that the Cannon Fodder and another kit (The Great War/WW2 French)?, were scheduled for loading onto a ship. Are you allowed to comment on their progress, and if yes, are those kits still on schedule?

 Galas wrote:

I dislike having animal transport or cavalry in my sci-fi settings. Both the Great War and WW2 should have shown even the most hidebound military mind that putting horse cavalry against automatic weaponry is sheer folly. Besides, horses are surprisingly delicate animals for their size, and historically the primary attrition on cavalry units on campaign was the horse falling ill (or breaking a leg). And that's just the marching, never mind the battlefield.

Now if one has a setting where either genetic engineering or evolution has resulted in some kind of armor-plated riding beast, then I'm fine with it.

How big will the horses be?

I can’t fully describe my disappointment when I bought Fireforge Teutonic Knights and ended up with just the smallest, saddest bunch of pony riders since the Perry Cuirassiers.

Yeah well, the perry and fireforge horses are rather big... given that they are true 28mm historicals.
When put besides 32mm scalecreeped fantasy giants you will be disappointed.
These are explicitly renders for fantasy horses, so will be probably bigger then WAs historical output. That's good in my book. Keep em separated and keep the customers informed what they get.

The head and neck coverings on that horse look too sci-fi to me and not in a good way. Panel lines, sharp angles, and ridges are all generic modern design elements which make everything look lazy. Even though it's a fantasy horse, I'd strongly recommend sticking closer to historical examples.

Well that warhorse's armour is already pretty gothic in style. And it seems midd to late 15th century. I'd like to see 2ft spikes on the horse's chanfferon so it may skewer its enemies with lethal headbutts.

I totally agree with this. The armor looks very sci-fi in a bad way.

Also, I like my horses big

It does not strike me as bad. If you google 15th or 16th century barding, you'll get similar, though not exactly alike, pictures.

This one from wikipedia is 16th Century

Alternate head sprue that has a gas mask head option.

Joking aside, I am mostly in agreement here, the concept render looks to be going for late medieval / early renaissance look to it and a European styling. Considering the horse, I'd say heavily armored human knights with various weapons fitting the time frame - maybe a single style for legs and varied plate torsos in a few different styles/decorations. Throw in a number of head and weapon options, like the ones listed above, and hell maybe even an arquebus or musket or the like.

I feel like "generic horse and put didn't saddles, armor, etc." over it is the wrong way to go (if I'm understanding the approach being taken here correctly). I understand *why* its done, but it seems like most plastics manufacturers have gradually abandoned it over time, recognizing that theres no "one size fits all" for horses and the size of horses has varied dramatically over time and space. Beyond that, its hard to make a single generic horse that is suitable for every potential permutation of armor/barding/harness/saddle/stirrup, etc.

You say that like it’s a bad thing that my Arabian horse minis are identical to my Mongolian steppe pony minis.

now the stuff is being sculpted in 3d they can resize the same horse fairly easily (unlike a greenstuff master) to make a small dark ages horse or a giant fantasy charger (although larger horses means less space on the sprue, so less bits or even fewer horses)

Does it really matter if they fit a half-dozen more bits on the knight sprue when the customer opens the box expecting some mighty Sergei Prokofiev and instead gets Yakety Sax?

Urgh renaissance knights. I'd prefer high fantasy 14-15th century knights, like we saw in lord of the rings etc THE WHITE CITY! Gondor! I guess they'll go with the ogre landsknechts and the Spanish, Aztecs etc. Some Maximillian style fluting on the armour would look great I guess. But do the armour in proper hitoric style please. It looks so much better. Historical armour of this period was beautiful and perfect in design. Do not make it 'fantasy' for the sake of making it fantasy. Make it historical, make it beautiful, make it practical.

I would like to see more historical themed horses as well
less a variant of what GW thought historical cavalry looked like, as you can get them others as well, so if WGA wants to cover a niche here, Maximillian style cavalry that goes with the Landsknechts would be nice (we kind of miss the 16th century Demi-Lancer, heavy armoured cavalry with light lances and pistols)
