After seein the big version, i would think the 15mm version would be reasonable at $120-150 range.

Pricier than Dreadknights, but they are a vast improvement, and in detailed resin.

I really don't know how you thought you could get it down to $65.

The Privateer Press 54mm Slayer, 6" tall, is $80 and is resin as well.

Though if it was 80$ I'd be picking up more than if it's priced in the 120-150$ range (I might even not pick it up at that price).

The 15mm scale Crusade... that's about 6" tall, right? Have you figured out the price for that?

RiTides wrote:NoseGoblin- can you confirm that you're still trying to find a caster for the 15mm version? In Mad4Minis thread, someone posted saying it was cancelled as you couldn't find a caster who would do it for under $95... but it seems that surely bulk orders could help with that, or something?

I do not have an exact price yet. I am working with Justin over at Secret Weapon to handle the casting end, it turns out he is local to me so its quite convenient. He cannot give me a firm price until he casts a few for a time and cost analysis.

Rest assured, I would not even begin casting If I did not think we could sell them for a reasonable price. These are core units after all and they cannot cost an arm and a leg. I have all the components that will be metal, on the way to me this week to check the metal masters and I am working on the molds for the resin parts. I hope to have these out and selling by the holidays.

Because I know the volume of resin and what it takes to cast these... I still think they can be done for $65.00, perhaps a little more or a little less depending on what it totals out for with the metal bits.

It may be a horrible idea, but have you thought about filler?
I've been putting 6mm plastic bb's into my castings to take up space and reduce resin requirements, has been working like a charm though every once in a while the resin doesn't cover one properly.

Is the main expense resin or the labor to cast it?

Fillers wont make much difference; there is not enough resin to justify filler with the smaller kit. The main expense is labor followed by the rubber cost and resin.

With the big kit the labor and rubber costs were way up there. I hope to see a more reasonable casting cost with these.

Have you considered having a Kickstarter project for it?

That way if you get the pre-orders to cover your initial costs (at some discount from retail) you can go ahead and cast it. If not, no skin off your nose.

Indeed I have

I will likely kickstart the troopers and the next round of projects.... sneak peak. http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com/2011/09/mechs-for-republic.html

The only problem with Kickstart is they grab about 10% of the projects funding total. But its still a good way to go IMO.

Kickstarter.com is a tool for creative types to get start-up funding; almost like a crowd sourced venture capital system.

It seems like a great way to get a little cash infusion for a starting venture, and I wholeheartedly agree that the blog images are... amazing.

Those mechs look great, but I'm slightly concerned about how they will fit into the overall aesthetic of the Iron Core universe. The Leviathans and these appear to be based on completely different principals of design, engineering, warfighting principals, tactics, tehnology and doctrine.

Your concerns are well founded. None of these is push button ready to go. Therefore, I will need to work with every component to make or remake it so that it can be printed. This will give me a chance to tweak each model to have it better fit the universe.

The one area that concerns me the most is “technology” this is the key to keeping things cohesive for Iron Core. I always intended each faction to look, play and feel very different in their design and engineering. This was to allow me to express different design principles and artistic styles in the armor and vehicles.

Each faction, although human, developed in relative isolation due to the limited gate travel. The net result was a very different outlook on design, doctrine and tactics and some variation of technological level between factions. The Republic was always meant to use small light utilitarian designs with an eye towards fast and easy transport. These new mechs fit the bill but the tech level will need to be adjusted downwards slightly. And the energy weapons and missiles replaces with something more contemporary. I will likely still make energy weapons for those not using them in Iron Core but I will try to remain true to the Manga or fluff of the universe.

The Leviathan Crusader and Mortis are made by Eisenkern. The style for Eisenkern is decidedly gothic and antiquated.

Quotes from fluff:
“Although other factions now make Leviathans, the Eisenkern Crusader, is widely regarded as the finest piece of military equipment ever produced. Found in every faction’s arsenal, at over 200 years old, the design is still innovative.”
“Eisenkern has long since thrown off the morays and ideals that set in motion it’s exodus from earth but remains a very nationalistic people, still clinging to many of the styles and architecture of their past. Tradition is a cornerstone of life within Eisenkern; some view the Eisenkern ways as antiquated relics of the past, but none can deny their creativity, force of will, or military prowess.”

So… I guess what I am saying is that I will need to make some adjustments and still try to provide options for those not wishing to use the models in Iron Core.

Im not entirely sure when I will be back to it. We will be out of our house by the end of the September, and staying with family until around February, when we will be moving to another state. Im not sure how much room I will have for hobby work at the mother-in-laws house, so i may not be back to modeling for 6 months or so. We shall see.

So am I seeing this right...the 15mm leviathans may be as low as $65? That would be awesome, Id likely be in for 2 or more right off.

I much prefer that face-mask, as I find it more "realistic" looking (if I can say such a thing) and also more... aggressive, I would say. The "frowny-face" on Star Wars armor I don't think translates all that well to other media.

Yes!!!!!!! That's the space basis we need. Like everything except the boot and glove colors, I'll be doing mine in a darker grey pattern.

Are the eisenkern going with the old style straight cross now over the more maltese looking cross on the faction banner?

I just got the replacement spine for my crusader Sat thank you, upper torso is assembled along with hips and cannon. As soon as my spine is better I'll get painting started. (Hurt my back at work, one bulging disc, 8 or so out of alignment, and dome compressed) ah good times.

I also have to figure out how to post pictures from my gallery because I've tried and have yet to be successful.

Oh man sorry to hear about you back.... As far as the cross. The Wehrmacht uses the same cross found on the faction flag, the Navy (space fleet) and Kriegsmarine use the straight cross.

You are right about the gloves and boots... I did some test renders with them in dark grey and light tan (matching body suit) I prefer the light tan.. will post some pics up for you in a bit.

Light boots and glaves matching body suit color:

Liking the darker color gloves better, maybe because my mind is thinking flexible parts should all be same color, I.e. hoses, gloves, back of knee, and neck. Funny thing is my space marines I don't paint the flexible part a different color, except hoses.

I guess the old story of Batman putting the bright yellow bat symbol on his chest where the most armor is to draw fire their instead of his face is what keeps gnawing at me. If your going to draw attention to a body part, make sure it can defend itself, or in other words, don't paint the weak flexible parts of your armor a brighter colot than the base armor unless your trying to die.

Good to know about the crosses, I had tried to paint one of the crusaders shoulders with the wehrmacht flag, but wasn't liking the outcome.

Photo attempt,(if you don't see it....then I'm missing something, just check my gallery, more pictures uploading later).

Going to print for some samples this week. I hope to have both available for the holiday season. That's the nice thing about metal spin-casts... much faster to market and better pricing than resin casting.
