@Commander Cain - Thanks! Getting there! Still a long journey ahead.

@Jon Touchdown - Yeah, realism does have a place here though. Sure, she'll be holding a pistol that when fired would make a .50 Desert Eagle look like a .22. But I think the fabric should at least follow the laws of physics....to a point.

@M0rdain -

@GiraffeX - Thanks!

@jdjamesdean@mail.com - Well, in a very real sense, it was exactly like taking my fist steps! The fact that I actually got to the running phase without smacking my face into a wall still amazes me! I started this blog to encourage me, but it turned out to a the best teaching aid I could have imagined! If I had just done it on my own and then posted...the model would look like an anorexic, claymation, zombie hooker!

Anyway, some updates on the painting front!
You may notice in a couple of the pictures, one of her heels came off, not sure where it went.
The coat is Vallejo Black Red, it will get a Devlan Mud wash, and then I'll highlight it with the Black Red again, so it will stay pretty dark.
The coat's lining, the sash and her hair all started with Black Red, and then lightened drop by drop up to pure Vallejo Scarlet.
The pictures are kind of dark, but they are a good representation of the color. I tried to use Auto-Adjust, but it made the reds look pink.

So, thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks for looking,
Cheers!

Hm, kinda a shame that I've discoverd that thread to late...

Nice modelling goin on here, however, her right leg is somewhat unproportional (shin is to short). : /

That face on the other hand is awesome.

Painting is also comming along nicely!

@Optio - Thanks, and your wish is my command!

@M0rdain - Thanks! Will do!

@IPS - Thanks, but I'm with dsteingass here, I don't see a short shin, but I do see a shortage in the over-all proportion between the body and the legs (maybe this is what is throwing off the proportions for you?). The body is too long, I saw this from about the mid-way point, at which point I didn't want to start again from scratch. But thank you for the critique, and stick around...I'll be doing at least 2 more female commisars!

@dsteingass - Thanks.

I am trying my hardest to get the painting done before the baby...and according to my wife the arrival is "Any second now!" So, wish me luck!

Yea you're probably right^^

But still, tried to analyze it a bit, hope you don't mind.

Maybe you can see now what I ment with the short shin. (tryed to get somewhat correct proportions compared to the other leg)
The main problem here is the streched foot imo.

(sry I got the shoulders wrong... my fault >.< shouldn't affect the legs however^^ )

Nevertheless I'm really excited about your further work!

ahhh now we're getting technical! lol Your right leg armature isnt even in the leg! and yes, your shoulders AND hip are lacking the third dimension and the angle is wrong. But pish and posh! (this is not a serious argument btw, just having fun)

Thanks Tipios! Have fun on Holiday!

@LordWynne - Well, since this IS a khorne unit, that would probably get you several lashes...unless that is what you wanted...

@monkeyh - Thanks! And yes, it usually is just a "bit" more each time I do something....I am super impressed by folks who can paint an entire model overnight.

@MrTau - Heh heh, yeah, she's a bit dark, but that's what I was going for. Unless you mean lighting...I need to get better lights.

@Clumpski -

@IPS - I'll pay more attention to later sculpts, thanks.

@Clumpski - Huh?

@dsteingass - Yes, we're just having fun, so let's take a look at the drawing that inspired me to do this sculpt in the first place! I found whilst browsing around over at DeviantArt.

I hope Idelacio doesn't mind.

Not much progress last night, sorry no pics. I did get things cleaned up a bit, you know, stray paint off the belt and piping on the lapels and such. I also tried a techinique on the patent leather boots. I painted a dark gray on the raised portions of her boots, not draybrushing, per se, just painting. And then I did a white extreme highlight inside those areas...it looked like she had on Zebra print boots...not the look I was going for, I think the white areas were too wide. Next time I'll try a very dark gray drybrushed highlight, progessing to white as an extreme highlight again, but I'll keep the white very thin (if possible), and see how that turns out.

As for the piping on the lapels, would they look better black or brass/gold? I'm thinking Brass, and I'll keep the collar black. And the pauldrons/shoulder things, will be a bronze/brass color. (thoughts?)

I still don't know what color the belt and holster should be to break up the large area of dark red of the coat. Brown? Black? Bronze/Brass?

I haven't even started on the weapons. *sigh*

Jake dont give up on the patent leather Its a tricky thing to do but itll look great once you get it down...you got the right idea, keep that white thinnnnn and sparse but in strategic spots. Cant wait to see the update

Well, my fears have manfested. My wife is currently in labor! I'll post later.

On the painting side, I did get some done last night. Brass trim mostly done, and a good start on the patent leather. I'll take pics later today or friday.

QFT! LOL, she's pretty peaceful so far. *crosses fingers*
I was able to run home to take a shower, and I just happened to take some pics of the Commissar.
Here is where she stands at the moment. Only her Right boot has the Patent Leather effect done, I didn't want to do the other in case it didn't turn out. So, I might get some time to finish it in a week or two!
So, let me know what you think so far, and what areas I need to pay more attention to!

This one shows the "shine" on the brim of the hat too.

I still need to highlight the coat.

I've decided to match the corset to the boots, and give it the same shiney effect, it's hard to see in the pictures, but it's already done.
