You have no control over where the highlights lie and it can make it look very messy. (the first commissar that i painted, the bill of his hat was done that way and you can see in the pic that it looks messier than it really is) I think its safer to paint the highlights up to white Anyways just my two cents, the model is pretty stunning

Thank you! Good info! I was actually planning to use a much brighter highlight for the hair than the coat, and I think the lapels and collar might end up being black anyway, we'll see about that. (and I have LOTS of shades of red! )

As for the Gloss, thank you again! The gloss would have been easier, but I want it to look as good as possible, so I will try the highlights first.

Nice, im sure the reds will look great, but the gloss coat idea...in theory sounds good...to say the least i used it that one time only on a tiny little piece of the mini and was like...NOOOOOO....lol...anyways, cant wait to see the finished product

Thanks, I'm glad you chimed in on that advice, I was going to try it.

Also, a question for everyone: What color to paint the lips?
"whore red"

I'm not saying she's a whore, just an example of really red lipstick!

or just a "natural" pink?

Or something in between?

hmmm no red hair then.... well how about a whitehared one then? also i vote for a purple corset... and if this isn´t getting too far i´d say the boots too... would be a matching set... and skinwise i would add other colors to the mini first before speculating if there has to be added another deed to the fleshtones... for now she looks stunning as is^^

Oi, if you're by chance interested in a third commissar for your renegade guard, this model was just released today, although she doesn't have quite the stripperiffic impact of your model or the Raging Heroes disco commissar.

And, as an aside, I think the coat trim color on this one would be pretty great for the whole coat on your mini.

the only problem is is you give her whore red lipstick and a purple corset she would look my slaaneshi in my opinion however i do approve of that.you could give her a deep brown corset with gold/bronze trimmingsfor the khorne theme and i think she black hair personally but that is just my thing (damn betty paige for being my ideal looking woman)

Looks like you are off to a good start. I did a little experimenting with flesh tones in anticipation of my skin-a-geddon WoC army in my sig, and the results were in this little blog:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/270830.page

For skin in general, I usually start with GW foundation mixed with some Testors Light Skin or Vallejo Pale Flesh to get a thin base. A little Vallejo Cavalry brown mixed with some Dark Flesh (or Dwarf/Elf Flesh) and Pale Flesh gets a little pink for shadows, then build up with more and more Pale Flesh till it is almost white on the highlights. Alternately, to go faster I leave out the cavalry brown and just use Ogryn Flesh wash to finish it up.

You can see WAY more results and in process pics than you will want in my blog in my sig.

I also want to second the idea of a different colored lining on her coat to really show off the great sculpting work on it.

Wow, lots of feedback! Where to start? First I'll say that I didn't get much time to work on her this weekend. And when I did, I almost screwed eveything up! Well, almost screwed up her face anyway. I actually had to take all of the paint off of her face, and in the porcess, I took off her hat and all of her hair as well. I was ing bricks at thins point!

But after I got primer and base coat back on, and got some detail work on her eyes, that I wasn't completely happy with, but since they are so freaking small, I'll leave them as-is. I got her hair and hat back on, almost in the exact same possition as before. *whew*

I cleaned up the over painted areas on her clothes, and she is ready to get some more paint Monday night.

So, to answer some comments>
@Viktor von Domm - I still plan on red hair, but I think purple would be a bit un-Khorne like. but matching boots is intriguing! Why would women be all that different 40,000 years in the future, right?

@Depraved - Maybe I'll go for black hair on the second one! Or if I screw up the red hair.

@Rawson - Damn....2 votes for white hair. Now I'll have to think about it.

@LunaHound - That sounds like good advice. Painting them will scare the bejeebus out of me anyway!

@Viktor - Matching the lipstick to her outfit? Do women do this?

@dsteingass - that's the plan!

@Zefig - That's a nice mini! Looks like she too has a bit of the Captain in her! And that is a pretty good color! A bit on the pinkish side, at least on the edges, but that is pretty much the plan at the moment. I didn't think about matching the hat with the coat, but that is a great idea! Thanks!

@ishkatar - I think the lipstich will have to do, I'm not going to try makeup...it'll look like clown makeup if I try!

@alabamaheretic - No, I'll streer away from purple, but I'm staying with the Whore Red.

@Wehrkind - Thanks! I looked at your pics, great flesh tones! I am trying a similar process, but I'm not going as light, I want her somewhat tanned. I hope it comes out that way.

Thanks all for the comments and encouragement! I hope she comes out alright.

@tipios - Thanks! I was definately spitting and cursing yesterday...but it turned out better than I hoped.

@Depraved - Thank you for sticking with me. Especially after those first 2 faces, I'm supprised anyone came back to see the the rest!

Hopefully I'll get some paint on her coat (or whatever strikes my fancy at the time) tonight. I don't think I have been this intimidated over painting before in my life!

Well, that's what i was thinking (and was afraid of), when decided to paint such a makeup for my Inquisitor's wench, but it turned out not that bad, i guess... You can check this chick in my gallery if you're interested - the color scheme I used is pretty much similar to the one, suggested by all the good fellas around here. May be it will be helpfull somehow.
Anyway, obviously, it's your choice. I believe she will look great regardless of being painted with makeup or not. Skin already looks very nice.

Hey! Maybe I should do clay-mation cartoons!
I had to look it up, but I thought "plasticine" was C-4 explosive! I'm pretty sure I've heard someone call C-4 that though...

Yes, your wench's makeup did turn out quite well, but your painting skill also puts mine to shame...just out of curiosity, how did you do the makeup? just in case I want to try it, and haven't pulled any hair out for an hour or two.

It looks really good all in all, the only thing though is the back of the coat; it looks too wrinkled to be believable; but for a 99.9% home brew figure it looks really nice.

I have learned a great many things during this sculpt that I will be using on any future sculpts. Propper use of wrinkles is just one of them!

Just hapchanced across this, and thumbed through all 9 pages, and wow what a progression.

No offense meant but it was like watching a Toddler taking his first steps than moments later being able to run. It was a major turn around on the model when the face had been sanded off, and you critiqued the leg issues at the same time. Than to the hat, trimmed down with perfect execution.
Bravo
