Fenrisian Wolves are awesome, and not just for space wolf players either.

They are way, way better sculpts than the fantasy goblin, undead and chaos wolves.

5 different poses with 5 different heads too. I can see this kit being one of the very rare purchases that I make from GW.

Grrrrrrrrrr!

I got busy at my buddies house RPGing, and forgot to make an order. Now if I want Lukas, it's either get ripped off for 30% more than the metal price (that it was yesterday!!!), or go on ebay! $^%#@%$#

Congrats GW, that's less money you get from me. I refuse to pay even more for something that I'll then have to fix mistakes on.

I'm very excited. I have some Mythicast Thunderwolves and these will be a great addition. I was just complaining the other day that Bjorn and Lucas the Trickster where unavailable so I'm a very happy puppy!

Arjac will be easy to convert if you dont like the arms, but I think its the kind of model a flat picture wont do justice. I see this problem (bad pictures) with lots of new models, but perhaps thats lack of imagination on my behalf. And GWs 3d swirl is just annoying, privateer press do it much better IMO.
Edit: love the TWC riders heads. some nice bits in there!

The generic Wolf Lord on the Thunderwolf looks great. Much better than DerpyWolf and Canis looks, anyway.

Space Wolves are a silly chapter, for which Fenrisian wolves are an even sillier addition and Thunderwolf Cavalry are the silliest billies who ever sillied a billy. Led by the king of all sillies, Canis Wolfborn, who represents a distillation in pure Finecast every reason that most GW players should not show their miniatures to potential girlfriends, bosses, religious leaders, or family. Basically, anyone you want to ever take you seriously ever again.

But I have to say, these models represent the best possible execution of a silly concept I can expect. I am impressed with GW's achievement of turning a laughably absurd concept into miniatures with a sense of dynamism and weight.

Still silly though.

You know..... maybe I was on the hedge about the metal model, and only heard about the recast very recently in this thread? And maybe that made my decision because I figured I might as well get it at the lower price rather than wait and get it later at a completely baseless markup? Maybe I only started a SW army in the last two/three weeks, so all that time he's been out before now in metal is a moot point because i was working on a Dark Eldar army?

So sue me for thinking that it was still February and I had a little time to get an order together.

In which case, look upon it not as a missed opportunity to buy the awful Lukas model in metal, but the opportunity gained to kitbash something much better-looking in plastic.

Pretty excited about most of the SW stuff, but this?

Yikes, GW.

Also, because Ulrik and Blackmane are recasts, does that mean they'll probably be shorter than the average modern plastic marine (due to their original casts being smaller scale)?

While still bummed (I liked the official version minus the bulky back section), but that's exactly what I'm planning now!

I do wish the Fenrisian Wolves were nearer the price of the Wargs from LoTR, and I frankly don't know why they aren't, as they are the same size, but with one less number in the pack. I'd definitely get two packs, if they were cheaper as I love the detail they have.

Yes, and their pauldrons will also be slightly smaller. I wouldn't, however, care to guess how obvious the height difference would actually be, particularly for Ragnar, thanks to his hilarious signature topknot. In the cases of Ragnar, Ulrik and (especially) Power-Armoured Njal, what really shows the models' age is the flatness of their poses. Amusingly, I've also just noticed that Ragnar's miniature still shows his silly clawed boots, which haven't featured in his rules since Second Edition.

Well that's truly unfortunate. I learned this lesson the hard way after buying the Finecast Grimnar. I don't necessarily mind them using the old models, but I would prefer they at least try to scale them to the modern line so they don't look ridiculous next to their comrades.

Its a good thing Ragnar is such a badass no one would dare taunt him for his size.
I guess epic basing is a must for those old models, but the TDA rune priest would still be underwhelming IMO.
Its strange that they dont give such an important character as Ragnar a model update, with all the books out there and the fact that most GW sanctioned wolfes are painted with Blackmanes iconic insignia that has come to represent the army as a whole for many people.

Great models apart from the WP in TA..

Seriously, Termies don't even look like that anymore, they could have made a new model surely?

We should, I suppose have expected as much, given that Dante and Mephiston likewise missed out on resculpts; I surmise from this that we shan't be seeing new models for the extant Dark Angels special characters either.

On the subject of bringing models up to scale, I have established at a millimetre or so of greenstuff on the soles of the boots and a few bits of other tinkering to increase apparent height was enough to make the slightly stunty 3rd Edition Captain Stern equal in height to his plastic 5th Edition chums, so I presume that a similar procedure would bring Ragnar et al into proportion, possibly with a bit more to elongate their pauldrons (or some butchery to swap their arms for new plastics).

This is either expert trolling, or you have a complete and utter lack of perspective. Space marines on wolves is silly... but lord of the rings races in the future... in space (!) is not? Really? Elves in space, Orks in space, these things are not silly to you, but a group named after wolves using wolves is somehow ridiculous? They're all silly. 90+% of this game is silly. You singling out one aspect of it makes you look foolish.
