Didn't see a thread on this yet, but some rumours are surfacing (again.... ) about the Dark Eldar range.

Have a link:

This would be awesome if true - I've been holding off starting a DE army, I can wait a LITTLE longer. But don't keep me waiting forever, GW!

MODS: Please delete if there is already an active thread on this.

If gw redid the entire range there would be some sweet models. I don't play de, but they look the coolest.

As I've said before, I'll believe it when I see it.

Assuming the rumor is true, what's to stop GW from doing another of their "wave" releases?

Aside from opportunity cost, given the current lack of success with DE to date.

It'd be nice if they redo the entire line...the DE certainly need it. That'd be 1 less 3rd Edition Codex floating around...only a couple more to go!

DakkaDakka.com does not allow users to delete their accounts or content. We don't apologize for this.

no, this is another BOLS "news" fail. they seem to simply rehash other sites (mostly warseer's) news a half day later. the warseer thread is just rehashing the same vague info that has been circulating about DE (they're done, they're redone, they're awesome, they're iffy, etc) for years and it's being rehashed by a low post count poster. could someone with a post count of less than 100 have super secret info straight from the upper echelons of GW? sure, it's possible but unlikely. as cheech and hwang said above, i'll believe it when i see it.

John!

I am disappointed!

It took you almost 20 minutes to show up and whizz all over the DE fire!!!

If the DE don't look like utter ass, I might consider them as a second army. But I'll believe it when I see it, Jess Goodwin or no.

Meh. I'm just pointing out that DE rumors must be substantiated - mere whispers don't cut it anymore.

Yo, I heard, from a high up undisclosed source, GW finished re-vamping the entire DE line and codex years ago. Twice in fact, they re-did them for 4th, and they re-updated them to 5th ed. 9 months ago. They're just keeping it tightly under wraps for an unspecified amount of time to build suspense so they can tack on a 200% price increase, everyone will be so distracted by the new DE stuff they won't notice prices doubling.

I'm kinda on the believe it when I see it side, too. I've been playing DE since the beginning of 3E, and I've honestly given up any real hope of seeing them getting a real update.

To address one thing JDD stated about the relative success of the DE line, it's a simple matter of marketing. If GW gave space marines the same amount of attention over the last 10 years as they've given to DE, you'd probably see similarly dismal sales figures for SM.

I've never understood GW's decision to let certain lines languish. One would think they would want all of their lines to be successful. This is one place I believe that PP has it in spades over GW. Yes, I know GW (40K in particular) have a lot more armies than WM, but when orks and space wolves (core product armies) go years without and update while other armies (vanilla SM, tyranids, CSM, Tau, Eldar, etc.) get multiple releases each just doesn't make any sense to me.

I have heard this same rumor confirmed so many times now that I am a believer.

Just release them already! If this is the wood elf level redo we have been hearing about, the quality of the models alone will sell them.

I will get a DE army if they come out, the only reason I don't have them now is because their models are terrible.

Was there really something about people not playing Dark Eldar? Really? Given the crappy models and utter lack of support this is a suprise?

Then again, I have a Bretonnian army so I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

However, as SMs are by far GW's biggest seller, using SM isn't a reasonable comparison. Necrons might be more of a fair comparison point.

I think GW is timing a release to allow them to release the entire army at once (or within 30 days of the codex).

If every mini is being redone, while it won't obsolete a lot of minis they might be hesitant to keep the old sculpts on the shelves denying space for the new so they'd be forced to choose to force people to buy all new, making old models look way out of place or keep the current metals thereby pissing off people who see the new ones in the codex and be told they will have to wait 6 months or more for the shiny new model, forcing them to buy the old to replace it in 6 months or not use those units in the codex for 6 months plus (very bad marketing on GW to do this).

On the other hand if for some reason they release every model and codex all within the first 30 days of the codex release and it doesn't take off well than it'll be a huge waste of money and time and resources.

I see GW doing the massive release within a very small time frame strategy. It's riskier but I don't think it's a risk of failure, I think they are hoping that by this time next year the world economy will be a little more stable. Some people would be willing to sell body parts to buy DE but to release an entirely new codex and model range that, lets face it most people will have to buy from the ground up, right now or even in the Spring of the year would actually be a very bad marketing ploy.

We all want DE but I'd rather them pick a good time to release (and now isn't as we 12 or so users might want them now but Seer doesn't make up the majority of the world player base) and have it succeed then to release it when no one or barely anyone can afford an entirely new army and have it flop and then have the GW marketing guys say "wow, DE flopped. Guess it wasn't a big hit afterall. Well, in 6th we'll squat them and say their Craftworld kin wiped them out."

This is what I posted over in 'Seer. Some will read it as me being an apologist but I think it makes perfect sense. 40K is not a necessary commodity so people on super tight budgets won't be able to afford to fork out $600+ dollars in one shot to buy a new DE army. I think GW knows this (as much as people want to believe their marketing geniuses are idiots). Maybe I give them too much credit but let's wait and see.

@Fateweaver: It's an interesting concept, but quite frankly, consider that the same resources and warehousoing could be used to release one of the following:
- Warhound Titan (in plastic, $125+ each),
- Thunderhawk (in plastic, $300+ each), or
- Dark Eldar (plastic kits & bitz).

Which of these gives GW a guaranteed home run in sales, even if released next year?

Given your completely made up assertion of what's being released and the completely subjective answers any one of us will give, JHDD what are you trying to prove?

Since you continue to deny any and all DE rumors I will continue to bring up the Wood Elf release and how successful it was while completely relaunching the product line.

According to a very reliable source over on Seer, DE are indeed done (sculpt wise at least). Note that this does NOT mean assembly work is done, only the greens. Once production starts that won't take long with their new tech to go from green to mold but again let me phrase my thought.

So I see this as a "release most everything or all at once" type of release. If they do that it's going to require a lot more build up and a lot larger release window. With Marines or IG it was a fairly small hype up in the sense that for those armies most of the range existed; it just had some new units added and a few units per codex resculpted so they didn't have to dedicate much time or energy into hyping up new product.

With DE and the rumor that none of the minis will look the same when they get released a 2nd time it's going to take more effort and marketing resources to sell the idea and concept. GW might target 12yo's and apparently not care about vets (which baffles me as apooc isn't aimed at people starting new armies) and many users on Seer and Dakka say they'd start up a DE army they still have to market it right and spend enough time doing so that people new to the GW hobby will want to buy them too.

I'm a DE player and tbh...I don't believe I will ever see an update for them. Even if the line is completely redone with all new models I'm not spending any money on them. I've got a complete DE army and enough unpainted DE Warrior sprues to update that army if a new codex completely invalidates it.

Honestly the only thing I have to say to GW at this point concerning DE is ..i.,
