Not sure I understand why the Necron Codex lists a BS for the Wraith when its weapons are listed as only claws and a barbed tail. What am I missing?

Thanks ahead of time for any replies.

Nothing. That stat listed there is useless.

That surprises me because I noticed that for Kroot Hounds, that are melee attack only, they list a BS of 0. I was curious as to why Necron Wraiths are treated differently. So when you say 'worthless', is it an error?

It's not an error, it's just the rules are REALLY old. So old, there were probably different uses for BS.

No, there weren't. It's just a fluff thing.

Should this perhaps be in the '40K you make the call' forum?

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

No call to make really.

Lots of things have a BS stat in the game, but nothing to shoot with.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

@Gareson - It's not 'forum police'. You just posted your question in the wrong forum. YMDC is the right place for this question.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Okay, so the male version of "Cougar" is now officially "Albatross".

Sorry, I didn't think it was a matter of 'making a call' as it wasn't an "either-or" type of rules question. That being said, I will yield to the veterans here as far as where things go. Mods should feel free to move this thread if need be.

As for "Lots of things have a BS stat in the game, but nothing to shoot with. "...again, it is interesting that Kroot Hounds have a 0 BS and, fittingly, as they have nothing to shoot with. I am trying to figure out why this is....did GW make a mistake with Wraiths and get it right with Kroot Hounds?

A new day, a new time zone.

Just because they don't have any guns doesn't mean they will never have a chance to shoot something. For example, IIRC, it was 3rd edition daemon princes that were given a BS of 0, and had a primarily CC loadout, but it was also possible to give them a psychic shooting attack. Which they couldn't use because they had a BS of 0.

Anyways, anything that could potentially use a shooting attack is given a BS. Things that never could, such as swarms of bugs, or hounds, are not. Fairly straightforward.

I believe all Necrons are BS4 and WS4. Flayed Ones are in the same boat as Wraiths.

I suppose it just shows what sort of skill they'd have if they ever had a ranged weapon. Scarabs and Kroot Hounds, lacking any method of actually firing a weapon, would make sense to stay at BS0.

It can actually come into play when defending in Planetstrike, though.

nah, it's just one of the surgical tools in it's arsenal. If you look, one hand is purely claws, the other is like a mix of claws, syringe and containers of stuff
