Dakka is one of the most important forum I know about wargaming under all its aspects -rules-background-modelling-etc... and most important of all, it's a huge international platform for hobbyists.

In my case, it has changed many things in my practice of the hobby through the painting and modelling sections.
For example: My deadnoughts won't ever look the same thanks to Cathar the Great ,FU 2000 gave me a new standard for Chaos Bikes, and I've discovered the incredible "Ripley pattern" from Lemmingspawn.

Just tell us what it has changed for you, and how.

Same sort of thing in many respects - mostly the fact that it is an excellent repository of modelling info. Also, some of the tactica articles are very good as well.

In some ways dakka has reignited my interest in table top gaming.

Painting and modelling articles and the quality of work in the galleries here has inspired my creative output. Once content to slap paint on minis and be done I am now trying hard to refine my techniques.

It's like reading a game guide to me. I learn about how enemy units work and the best ways to use my own units. It's like gamefaqs, but for Warhammer.

"I drive a big car, cuz I'm a big star. I'll make a big rock-and-roll hit." "I am a big car, and I'm a strip bar. Some call it fake, I call it good-as-it-gets."

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

At the moment, since I've been between regular 40K opponents for a while, Dakka is largely what has kept my interest in the game going.

Mostly it's confused me, half the people in Tactica said Possessed are good while the other half say they blow, so they're either really disappointing or perform well depending on which page of notes I'm looking at when I'm playing, which only furthers my confusion.

It's also improved my psy-ops when I'm playing.

The painting and modelling threads on this site have been really inspiring in helping me learn new techniques and giving me ideas on how to create new and interesting armies which is why I'm on here so damn often.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

Not only has dakka helped improve my converting, painting and tactics it also keeps my desire to write fluff for my armies in hopes it will one day be dakka worthy

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Definately an all over greater interest in the hobby, especially with painting tutorials and some army tactics discussions.

Also given me the idea to make my own game table, which has been fun so far.

Also like some of the RP games in OT.

I don't paint or convert, but Dakka gives me great inspiration for army ideas, and all of the peripherals that go along with gaming.

-Two weeks ago I got my rulebook and army book bound after reading about the idea on Dakka.

-My army carrying tray was custom-made by a Dakka member.

-My (new!) army arriving in the mail tomorrow is from a member of Dakka

-My HQ that I commissioned to be painted is being done by a Dakka member.

So I guess I like to give Dakka members my business, and get ideas from them

Unfortunately I've had a few incidents where the professionalism hasn't quite been there... so now I've been shooting for some of the more "top tier" services that frequent Dakka. But still, overall, I've had great experiences and feel much more connected to it this way

Dakka has really fed the fire for me I don't go to many other websites. It's a ton of fun to see the Paintjobs, read lists and trade on here. My painting skill has increased leaps and bounds from things I've seen and read on here.

Dakka Community has influenced me greatly. My army choices, painting schemes, tactics, and even converting. Out of all the forums I visit, this is my first 'go to' forum.

It has given me an outlet for my fluff writing ^^ and gives me a suitable podium to debate the finer points of 40K fluff with like-minded individuals

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Some great ideas for conversions and some good resources for bits, etc. Also, seeing some good army lists and getting to see what's in other armies has been good. Also getting some clarification on many of the grey areas of the rules, at least as can best be interpreted.

But the painting forum has been hit or miss. Some good feedback and tips, some great work, also some complete and utter jerks ripping unnessarily on people's stuff, some of which looks pretty good IMO. It's one thing to give criticism, especially if you give tips on improving technique, and it's another thing to be an ass. Guess that's just the internet for you.

Nobody's perfect , and, sadly, it's an usual internet side effect!

Hopefully, these silly attitudes are largely balanced by the content of most threads.

From what I can read, it seems that for most users, Dakka is in first place a ressource website for hobbyists, but do you think there is a Dakka community effect? I mean, it's the point of internet to be a worldwide communication system and it's quite obvious to find international users, but do you find it easier to communicate and share content on dakka than on other websites?

Coming back to the hobby after a 13 year absence was pretty daunting given the total overhaul of the rules, new armies, new paints and wildly different styles of play.

Dakka has been great to read up on tactics, get some rules sorted out in my head, pick up ideas for painting and converting, and have a bit of a laugh in the OT section
