Because we’re here,lad...

Gents (and the odd lady),

As the thread says,do you have superstitions that occur during games?

For example, I won't roll saving throws with dice that were used by the other player to hit and wound, just because I have the idea that they'll (the dice) will go against me. I know the laws of science and mathematics will say otherwise, but thats what I feel. So I have my own dice (20 Marble red and 36 Acid green dice) that I stick by even if I'm rolling badly.

But saying that, if you are rolling badly, do you change dice?

Do you do anything to try and change your luck?

Gents the floor is yours.

hell yes i am. I never roll an important roll with out saying a short blessing, like for the emperor or emperor protects. Seems to work pretty well. I also refuse to roll certain dice after they fail me enough and never roll an enemies die because it'll try to screw me over. (unless the enemy is failing with his dice then i roll his because they evidently hate him)

You love it you slags!

I'm not sure I'd count it as a superstition more a hand tick (like playing with my chips during a card game) but I like arranging my dice in rows and columns with the high side up...

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

If i roll badly for two turns with the block of dice i have out i change to my other block. I also never use my opponents dice to roll for anything. Last i tend to try and guess how many saving throws i will have to make and hold in my hand until i have to roll for my guys.

I always carry a sedated goat in my trunk to my FLGS, just in case I have an important roll. Call timeout, head to the parking lot and sacrifice that S.O.B to the dark gods for luck.

Or, in the real world, I have three or four purple dice that I use in important situations. I'm also kind of an ass when it comes to people using my dice to roll. Thus the reason I have a few of the big white dice for others to use if they're on my side of the table and can't reach theirs.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I do the usual things. Don't let others use my dice as they often curse them by using them. I've checked with my friends before and after someone else rolls them they tend to roll worse. I sometimes keep them in my hand or my shirt pocket to give them extra mojo. Oh, and not rolling them in large groups. I tend to split them up into multiple rolls if I'm rolling a lot of dice. For some reason the dice just roll better if you roll a few at a time instead of 20 or 30.

I backhand my opponents when they are doing good.
Seriously though, I have a block of dice that are solely used for my Dark Angels. They are black and white (Ravenwing and Deathwing colors) with red pocks or whatever they are called. I also believe I must have at least one new mini painted each week, or my guys lose hope and don't fight.

I must be odd, I have no dice superstitions and have no objections to sharing dice. Neither do my friends (which is handy when you get annoying 'roll 32 dice' situations).

I've tried to avoid it, but after rolling double sixes on every second psychic test for the course of a full game, I have to pray to the dark gods and/or threaten my sorcerer with banishment to the dark GW case of despair before rolling tests. Strangely enough, it works.

I have many different size dice and try to roll from largest to smallest (Hit with large, wound with small ect.) But for anything really important I use my D6 from my GM set for Dark heresy, it is sacred . . . .

Whenever I roll, I have to have an equal number of Fantasy 25th anniversary dice and Mines of Moria dice, and any odd number has to be made up using an old green die i have from when I tried LoTR hex. For some reason if i use any other combination of dice, i roll really poorly

I bought a box of blue dice with gold pips, and a set of gold dice with blue pips (and then a bunch of green, red, and black for plasma, melta, and other shots). I keep them all together in a Crown Royal Reserve bag, and I don't let them mingle with any of my other dice.

About once a month, I'll get my wife to bless them by spreading them out on the floor for her to roll around naked on them. Considering she plays Eldar, I've been very impressed with how well the blessing works. Or maybe I just *think* it's working. Either way, it's our system, and I won't change it a bit.

I guess that's supersitious.

I use the same dice which I aquired rather than bought because I am cheap. They are larger than normal dice, gold and have sunken pips rather than painted ones (rolls more 6's apparently).

My only real superstition is that when I make a roll with only a few dice that needs a high roll I pick all the dice showing 1's off the table and use them.

Similarly when making ld tests I try and find 2 6's on the table to use.

I realise probability doesn't work like that in any way shape or form but it makes me feel better.

NMS is also real.

And my orks fire rokkits and my marines have rocket launchers or fire "kraks" never krak MISS-iles.

No dice superstitions here, except that I personally don't use one of the two scatter-die that I own. The black one from my dice cube always comes up poorly, while the AoBR one I have is frequently good for me (and awful for my opponents... maybe).

I actually think it's a size/weight thing, since the AoBR one is much larger, so it doesn't bounce around so much.

I just noticed lately that I always do this too... I never pick it up to roll unless it is carefully positioned with a 4, 5, or 6 as the top face. Also, I never use large die, ever. I have to have small ones with rounded corners or I roll constant ones. (Except when rolling leadership, when the sixes miraculously appear). Luckily, i came across some tiny black and gold dice and they work beautifully.

Do not touch my dice. I also have special dice for all my armies...which is too many.

I have the Custom Ork Dice from QWorkshop, and I find the Red ones with the Yellow Glyphs roll higher than my Black dice with the Yellow Glyphs. So you can guess how I use each

We recently got some dice with our club logos on them, and they roll 6's like whoah!

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.
