I was told by a guy at a GW store that Khorne Berzerkers are the best CC troops in the game. What about Dark Eldar or actual Khorne Bloodletters?

Who is the ultimate close combat character of all 40k? I would guess the Bloodthirster.

For their points, slugga boyz are difficult to beat

I love my zerkers, for not many more points than a tac marine you get something that kicks ass in cc.

"best" is relative- the game doesnt exist in a vacuum, so this thread is....difficult.

I'd have to say it's a close second third between bezerkers - (3+ armour) and Bloodletters (Power weapons).

But the infantry thats best imho is Bloodcrushers.

As for best Close Combat character - in a one on one, i'd say Skulltaker in a chariot, ID on a 4+

Don't black templars get the same thing if they bring assault terminators with the furious charge upgrade and an Emperors Champion with accept any challenge oath.

40 attacks on a charge at initiative 5 and str 5. Rerolling wounds and attacks for the whole combat rather than the round you assault. The Blood Angel way requires you to attach a chaplain and have corbulo (thats how its spelled) nearby. Templars just need the upgrade and a champion in the army.
(Templars might be less expensive too, but i don't feel like doing the math...)

As for the best lone guy in close combat i want to say Lysander

BA Terminators are not a troop choice.

Generally, I don't play troops geared towards cc since troops have different tasks in the 5th ed (occupying and holding objectives).

Genestealers and Orks are one of the best choices.

Well, in terms of Troops FOC slot CC choices, I think that it's gotta be the humble Boy.

I can't think of any other troops choice that can, using only 215 points, match the Slugga Boyz Mob in CC.

(disclaimer, this is in a vacuum. I know that other choices can outshoot them, flamer them, etc. Thanks)

@ Wuesten: Yes, troops are used for that, but they're also used to take the other team's objectives. Unless you're a green tide, an army with only CC oriented troops isn't optimal, but having a mix of shooty and fighty troops is great. Berzerkers are wicked for taking enemy objectives, even if they're not so hot sitting on your own.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

This is one of those loaded questions that needs a little more clarity. Are you talking base troops? Elites that can become troops through HQ/Special Characters? Heinous combos? Stand alone, troops only choices? Too many options here.

As an ork player, I'd say a good vote would be Nob Bikers with bike Warboss. Or 30 cyborked 'ard boyz with Mad Doc and Ghazghkull attached. Or hell, combine the two and have 10 cyborked nobs with Ghaz and Mad Dok in a battlewagon.

If you're talking basic troops, no IC attachments, that sort of thing, Khorne Berserkers are hella nasty, as are Bloodletters. Genestealers, Deathwing assault terminators are also traditionally fearsome.

30 Boyz, Cybork Bodies, and Mad Dok. 5+I save, FNP. Expensive-- but can't think of a single other unit in the 40k universe that can handle them 1v1 in CC.

Im going with genestealers, rending close combat attacks with the sheer volume of attacks at that initiative, hardly anything can beat that(I can't remember if the new codex has them as a troop choice.) Other then that bloodletters.

This is good.... isn't it?

I would go for a full squad of Ork shoota boyz with attendant Nob with power claw. That's a decent shooting threat coupled with a powerful charge that should see the back of any other comparable unit for its price.

10 Grey hunters for a low cost of 150 pts have 2 attacks a pop (close combat weapon and bolt pistol) they also have CA so charging isnt a issue so more then likely they will have 3 attacks in the first round of any combat that's awesome if you ask me. They also come with bolters and can get two flamers for free INSANITY (some of the best troops ive seen). But the best CC unit in the game goes to ymgarl genestealers pure and utter carnage in cc no other troops can do what they can imo.

Moving on to his second question Who is the best CC character in the game?

Im going with either Ghazghull Thrakka or The Nightbringer. Infact a Necron lord with Veil of darkness Destroyer body and Warsycth!

Tricky that... im gona go with the Lord becasue he has a larger move but no ranged attack unlike the Nightbringer...

Mmm... can som1 make the decicion for me.

I'm probably a bit biased, but I would say DE Wyches.

They might not bring the most raw power to a fight, but if you told me to pick 200 points to bring to an all in close combat brawl between specialist close combat unit, I would probably opt for the Wyches and laugh as I tarpit everyone.

That said, their true strength comes from being able to tarpit melee specialists WHILE the rest of your army goes to town on other units.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

No.

Warboss/Nobz w/painboy and power claws got charged by TWO full Wytch squads and Archon/w Incubi. Combat lasted two turns, I lost a single wound on a Nob, and ate all three squads.

up to 60 attacks at S6 I5 that ignore armor = win.

If points ARE a concern then drop frostblades down to power weps.

10 diversified Nobz with Ghazghkull and Grotsnik attached. 18" charge range, with a grand total of (assuming a 4/6 PK/BC split) 28 S9+ PK attacks and 24 S7 attacks on the charge, all at WS 5+. Oh, and they're all Fearless, with a 5+ Invulnerable save (Except Ghazghkull, his is a 2+), and FNP.

That unit runs you a bit over 800 points, but it absolutely EATS anything of comparable cost in CC.
