This thing is perfect for my needs! I'm often working on just one or two sections of models at a time, so having something much smaller than your standard paint case (which is phenominal btw) would make for ideal transporting.

Any plans for brush sleeves or custom paint pots to fit vallejo or p3 in the works for this little guy?

Great idea, that was the item needed for blood bowl. I'm just sad it's not compatible with other PACK systems, having its dimensions a multiple of the BF trays would be great. I'd be game for a 7.75x6 tray, allowing for 1 blood bowl team, each team having its own tray ready to be picked up from the larger PACK. Maybe another product for the future?

It would be cool to have a combined tool-troop tray. Slots for some brushes, a file, the snips, maybe 5 or so pots of paint and 10 troops. That would be prefect for bringing some models to work for painting during lunch.

The long trapezoid looks perfect for the pipettes I use.

Also, as mentioned before the syringe cut-out is most likely for a pin vice.

I think this might actually come in handy. I think I would have preferred a two tray system, but this'll definitely work for smaller games, and the pluck foam section would probably be perfect for snagging the large character model(s) off my shelf and carrying them along with the rest of my army that fits in troop trays.

So it's 3 trays. Is one tray pluck and pull and the other isn't (not counting the molded tools tray)?

Oh, I see. It only holds one tray at a time.

Any thoughts of expanding the depth of it to hold 2 trays at once? If I'm pringing tools, it's to work on models and being able to carry them in the same PACK would be great. Just a thought ... this one is still cool for my skirmish units.

Romeo,

I have a question on your bags and the shipping costs. I know the Pack 1520 is a very large bag, but I am not sure why the empty bag is listed at $135 but then there are 2 shipping charges seemingly added in to take the bag up to $170 shipped in the US. $35 in shipping is extremely high for US shipping. If you could clarify this I would appreciate it. I have a pack 432 and a Pack 216 and I really like them. I have been considering a 1520 for my Nids but I am not able to justify the costs just yet.

Thanks for your time.

The bag doesn't "fold down," so it takes a very large box to ship it in. Very large boxes are charged an additional premium, regardless of weight.

Sorry, not a valid argument. I put the dimensions of the bag plus an extra inch (as most of my orders from BF have come in boxes fitting the contents snuggly) and the weight into FedEx's website and for a package of that size going Ground it cost $10.14.

So factoring in some small labor and materials cost, shipping should be $15 - $17 dollars. Not $35.

EDIT - Even increasing the weight substantially the package still gets to $19 max on FedEx's site. So even if I underestimated the weight initially, it still shouldn't be $35 in shipping. Especially when a foam kit on its own for the 1520 (so pretty much the same dimensions) is only $17 in shipping.

Just trying to see if there is a mistake on the site or something I am not taking into account. As I said, I have many BF products and want to get more, just need to see why this seems so out of whack.

I went to the site to see what shipping options they used (so I could compare their charge vs. actual cost by carrier) and tried it and shipping in the US for an empty PACK 1520 shows as $8.
An empty PACK 1520 to Canada is $19.
An empty PACK 1520 "International" is $29.

Looking deeper at it, I see where your question arises. Once you get to the shopping cart page, the price goes from $135 to $162 automatically, with the notation of "Price with Partial Shipping Charges - US."

It *would* be nice to know what causes the price difference.

BTW, at USPS.com, sending this package (adding 2.5" to each dimension for appropriate padding [you need minimum 1" padding PER SIDE to qualify for insurance] and box width) comes out to almost $26 for Parcel Post, if presumed to be a 10 lb. package. Express is more than double the cost, and Priority triples it.

Right, I am wondering if there is some error on the site or something. It is that big jump in price from what is listed to what shows in your cart that is causing the confusion. I just don't know why it jumps from $135 to $162. What is partial shipping and why is it so expensive?

Hopefully we can get some clarification from Romeo on this since he is usually very open and forthcoming on things.

Exactly who does Battlefoam ship through? As someone who has shipped out a variety of packages for eBay sales, the size of the package greatly determines who I ship through. Large packages are UPS, small ones USPS. International: USPS Express. If you are sending a 1520 through USPS, you are definitely doing it wrong. UPS or Fedex would probably be cheaper, depending on if you get a discount or not.

Also, I think the reason they do "partial" shipment prices is that if you add in shipments at checkout they combine shipping quite nicely, so they have to make up for the price of shipping the large objects by adding a surplus.

Also, anyone who complains about actual vs. paid shipping prices must not make many internet purchases. I'm not saying all vendors make a profit on shipping, but many do.

In any case, is there a local vendor nearby that you can purchase the empty case through, negating the large shipping cost?

There is a big difference on making some profit on shipping and charging $35 to ship one item that is under 2 feet in size and weighs only a few pounds.

I have no problem with them charging a few extra bucks to cover packing, labor, etc. and making some money. But let's be realistic about it all. As I said, I can order from BF something that is the same size as this case for $17 shipping, so why is this particular item by itself double that?

So... Have you contacted Battlefoam or are you just venting?

I do not believe that Dakka is the proper place to look for a solution to this.

Wouldn't it be more expediant to e-mail or call the company you have a problem with, than wait for a response on a message board?

If you are just venting frustration, carry on.

JHall, we just updated the site. It was a calculation error on the shopping cart. The shipping for the Mini has been fixed. It was meant to be $9.00 for US, not $18.00. It was calculating it twice for some reason. Anyway, it was fixed and all 3 shipping options for the mini have been reduced per the correction.

Please don't get into a huge deal about shipping prices. All of our bags are priced by all 4 major carriers on dimensional weight, not actuall weight. Once a package gets to a specific size it changes the way it can be shipped. The lighter and bigger the product the more expensive it is to move. A box of balloons cost more then a box of bolts. Lighter items can not have other items stacked on top of them so when they ship via plane or truck they must be put on top of other things or left on their own. This causes the carrier to lose space on the plane/truck and that drives the price up.

A bag filled with foam regardless of size will always cost more because of its dimensional weight. Also just so everyone knows we use UPS, FEDEX, DHL, and USPS. We choose the service that will get the cheapest price depending on the customer and location.

Thanks, Romeo, for posting in here about shipping.
That's one of the things you are so great about; keeping up to date with threads online that concern your company.
It shows a real commitment to the online community.

What JHall's asking about, and what I'm not curious about now, too, is why (for example), the empty pack1520 is $135 but, when it hits your cart, it jumps to $162, then shipping is added on to that even further.

I'm certain there's an understandable reason. I just don't know what it is.

Eric

BTW, Romeo, I must admit that I was very disappointed after seeing what this thread was about.
I thought that "Battle Foam P.A.C.K. Mini Now Available" was going to be a metal or resin copy of your mascot that was available for purchase. ; )
I might've bought one of those just for the sheer randomness of it! : )
